00:00Filipina tennis sensation Alex Ayala failed to reach the finals of the Women's Tennis Association Miami Open.
00:07Here's the report from Jomaica Bayaka.
00:18The journey of the 19-year-old Filipina tennis player Alex Ayala at the 2025 WTA Miami Open has come to an end
00:25after losing to the world number four Jessica Pegula.
00:29It was a tight match for both players in the beginning but Pegula secured the first set 7-6.
00:36In the second set, the world number 75 Alex recovered and outsmarted the American tennis player 7-5.
00:42In the final set, Jessica ended the Filipino teenager's fairytale run 6-3.
00:47Despite this, the Filipino athlete will still take home the US$332,160 equivalent to over 19 million pesos.
00:57Meanwhile, the 31-year-old Pegula will face world number one Alina Sabalenka in the championship match.
01:02The American athlete stated that Ayala is a top opponent and one of the greatest players she has faced in the tournament.
01:26Alex Ayala recorded 73% in the first serve while 50% in the second serve.
01:35The Filipino athlete also made 5 over 12 breakpoints, 40 receiving points, 59 enforced errors,
01:41ending the semifinals with 98 total points won, just 12 points difference from Pegula.
01:46As a wildcard in the Miami Open and the first Filipino to reach the WTA semifinals,
01:51Alex has proven a remarkably historic journey in the tournament.
01:55She was also the first Filipino to beat three Grand Slam champions and defeated top 2 and top 5 tennis players in the world.
