00:00This is Philippine Coast Guard.
00:03This is a battle of networks for the first time.
00:07Live from the GMA Network Center, this is 24 Horas.
00:14A Chinese warship is sailing in the joint exercise of the Philippines, America, and Japan
00:22in the sea inside the Exclusive Economic Zone.
00:27But the warships of the three countries did not stop
00:31and they patrolled at the same time.
00:34Who won?
00:40Unlike what the ships of China are doing to the ships of the Coast Guard and BFAR in Bajo de Masinlo,
00:46this Chinese warship only sailed and did not approach
00:50while the Philippine, U.S., and Japanese Navy are training in the Multilateral Maritime Cooperative Activity or MMCA
00:58near Bajo de Masinlo.
01:00It remained at a distance of 8 nautical miles but it is still inside the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Philippines.
01:06We were able to detect the presence of a Chinese frigate and we were able to challenge them.
01:13There was a time around midnoon, they actually attempted to maneuver closely
01:20but again we challenged them and we asked of their intent and then they altered their course.
01:26The Philippines sent the frigate BRP Jose Rizal to the activity
01:31while the guided missile destroyer USS Shoop was sent by the U.S.
01:35while the frigate JS Noshiro was deployed by Japan.
01:40From the BRP Jose Rizal, the Augusta Westland Helicopter of the Philippine Navy was deployed
01:45to carry out aerial reconnaissance.
01:47A P-8 Poseidon aircraft of the U.S. that flew several times in Bajo de Masinlo this week was also deployed.
01:55I think it shows a strong message of our allyship with the Philippines and the Japanese
02:03and that we are strong allies and we support each other.
02:09Along with training in the third MMCA of the year,
02:12the exchange of people using the rubber boat of the U.S. Navy,
02:15several crews of the USS Shoop with Filipino blood,
02:18surprised that there is a modern warship of the Philippines with surface-to-air missiles,
02:22torpedoes, radar and the ability to detect and fight ships, airplanes and submarines.
02:29It's good that I saw the Navy here. It's surprising.
02:35At the end of the MMCA, the ships of the three countries were on maritime patrol
02:40while a Chinese warship was still in Masin.
02:43The ships of the Philippines, the U.S. and Japan are fighting together inside our EEZ
02:50not only to train but also to show to the whole world
02:54that the allies of the country are united
02:57to protect the freedom of navigation and peace in the sea.
03:02For the GMA Integrated News, who was shot?
03:0524 hours ago.
03:07The driver of a pickup truck that went viral online fell asleep while driving.
03:15The LTO is explaining the driver of the incident.
03:19Let's watch Tina Panganiban-Perez.
03:23Tina Panganiban-Perez
03:29The Land Transportation Office or LTO is investigating this video
03:34that they got from the Facebook account of a Yamato Kenji.
03:38It was seen in the video that this pickup truck was driving slowly in Visayas Avenue, Quezon City.
03:44Even though the music was turned off, the fear of the voices in the video was still heard.
03:51In the caption of the uploader of the video, the driver of the vehicle fell asleep.
03:56A stone was placed on the road of the pickup truck to stop the vehicle but it did not break.
04:07He was also hit to wake up but it seems that he did not sleep.
04:21The driver also fainted but what he said in the video was not heard by one of the riders who jumped on him.
04:30The incident resulted in damage to property because a motorcycle was hit by a pickup truck.
04:37The Land Transportation Office saw the viral video and is investigating it.
04:43According to LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza,
04:47the incident was dangerous so LTO wanted to know if the driver of the pickup truck really fell asleep
04:54and if there was a medical reason.
04:57A show-cause order was sent to the owner of the pickup truck
05:02but it is not yet clear if he was the one driving when the video was taken.
05:07The owner of the pickup truck was faced by LTO on April 4 and was asked to explain.
05:13At the moment, the pickup truck's plate is already on the alert.
05:17For GMA Integrated News, Tina Panganiban Perez,
05:21NAKATUTOK, 24 HORAS.
05:25The two wanted men were separated and arrested in Zambales and Palawan
05:29for the same crime committed against minors.
05:31One of the suspects was the victim himself, Marisol Abdurrahman.
05:38The CIDG arrested this man in Palawan who was wanted for rape
05:45and for abusing two minors.
05:48The suspect is a fisherman and neighbor of 8-year-old and 12-year-old victims.
05:54He invited these two kids and brought them to a remote place.
05:58These kids have trust. They know each other. They know their families.
06:00The rape happened repeatedly last May and June, according to the complaint.
06:06It reached 19 counts of rape and sexual abuse against the suspect.
06:11He threatened the kids not to speak up.
06:14A wanted man was also arrested for rape in Zambales.
06:17The crime happened in 2018, according to the CIDG.
06:21The victim is the only child of the suspect.
06:24His mother helped the child to file a complaint against his father.
06:29The suspects are already in jail and there is no statement yet.
06:33For GMA Integrated News, Marisol Abdurrahman, for Tuto 24 Horas.
06:51The International Criminal Court assured that this will be justified
06:56in prosecuting former President Rodrigo Duterte despite the protests.
07:01Even if the information about his convictions is leaked,
07:05it will not affect their decision.
07:09This is the exclusive interview of GMA Integrated News with Maris Umali.
07:21Since the former President Rodrigo Duterte arrived at the International Criminal Court Detention Cell on March 12,
07:27this kind of gathering is already a common sight.
07:34The supporters are asking for the former President to return to the Philippines.
07:41And those who are calling for Duterte to be punished for the extrajudicial killings under the campaign against drugs.
07:47According to the spokesperson of the ICC,
07:57It's a kind of distracting our focus from what we have to do,
08:01which is our core tasks and core responsibility towards the victims and towards the international community,
08:07which is to apply the law in an objective and impartial way.
08:11The ICC also knows what is happening on social media,
08:14where the information is being leaked and sometimes the ICC judges are making fun of it.
08:20And we trust that in the social media, there will always be some passionate and heated individuals
08:26and we understand that there is also good people that will be actually trying to show the objective nature of things.
08:33I think the main and important thing is that we are all focused on only one thing,
08:38which is delivering justice in the best conditions for the victims
08:42and to ensure that truth is revealed about the guilt or innocence of any person who is accused.
08:47But Dr. Fadiel Abdala said,
08:49this kind of things will not affect the ICC's decision on Duterte's case.
08:54We have to understand that the judges can only decide based on what is presented before them,
08:59either by the prosecution or by the victim's lawyers or by the defense lawyers.
09:05So they are not taking into account any other elements that are not in the files before them.
09:13So this type of actions is showing support to certain suspects,
09:20but it's not part of the filings before the judges.
09:23It's not presented to them so it doesn't have an impact on the proceedings.
09:27Abdala asked the public to trust the ICC's process.
09:32We have to respect the process.
09:34It's not about being passionate.
09:36It's about being objective and impartial and applying the law and checking the evidence thoroughly
09:43and ensuring that the rights of the defense are respected and that the rights of the victims are respected.
09:49From The Hague, Netherlands, for GMA Integrated News, Mariz Umali reporting for 24 Hours.
09:56America reassured support to the Philippines again amidst the challenges facing China.
10:04America will also send additional equipment with advanced capabilities
10:09for the training of Filipino and American soldiers in April.
10:14Reporting by JP Soriano.
10:19In the face of US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth to President Bongbong Marcos in Malacanang,
10:25he pointed out the situation in the West Philippine Sea.
10:28Hegseth reiterated America's promise of support to the challenges facing the Philippines in China.
10:35Peace through strength is a very real thing.
10:38Deterrence is necessary around the world, but specifically in this region, in your country,
10:45considering the threats from the communist Chinese,
10:48and that friends need to stand shoulder to shoulder to deter conflict,
10:53to ensure that there's free navigation, whether you call it the South China Sea or the West Philippine Sea.
11:02President Marcos thanked America for its support.
11:06Thank you, Mr. Secretary.
11:07Well, being a friend to the United States is something that is inherent with most Filipinos,
11:13considering the relationship that we have had over a hundred years in various forms.
11:21And you are our only treaty partner and continue to be the supporter for peace in this part of the world.
11:36As part of stopping the threats in the region,
11:39Hegseth said that America will send more advanced capabilities to the Philippines.
11:45Hegseth announced this after his arrest of Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. in Camp Aguinaldo.
11:53First, we agreed that the United States will deploy additional advanced capabilities to the Philippines.
12:02This includes using the Nemesis anti-ship missile system and highly capable unmanned surface vehicles
12:12in Exercise Balikatan this April.
12:17These systems will enable U.S. forces and the armed forces of the Philippines to train together
12:22on using advanced capabilities to defend the Philippines' sovereignty.
12:28The Nemesis, or Navy-Marine Expeditionary Ship Interdiction System,
12:32is an anti-ship missile system that is used from land.
12:37The deployment of the Nemesis and other unmanned surface vehicles
12:42will hasten the introduction of these technologies into the vista of the Philippine Armed Forces
12:50and will train our troops to train for higher technological capabilities
12:55that we need for effective deterrence in the future.
12:59Hegseth's assurance is that America will not leave the Philippines
13:04in its battles in the West Philippine Sea against China
13:08and that this is just the beginning of a stronger alliance between the two countries.
13:13I can assure you, and I can assure all those watching,
13:16this is just the beginning of what will continue to be an incredibly fruitful alliance.
13:22It reflects the strength, as I said, of our ironclad alliance,
13:26particularly in the face of communist China's aggression in the region.
13:33The U.S. and the Philippines' defense cooperation was first initiated by the Foreign Ministry of China.
13:39Its message to the Philippines is that the use of mouthpiece or foreign language
13:46as well as the use of gimmicks for personal political agenda
13:51was answered by Teodoro and Hegseth.
13:54We don't practice propaganda in this country.
13:58We practice free speech and democracy.
14:01So the Philippines is not a mouthpiece unlike they themselves
14:05who are mouthpieces of Xi Jinping thought.
14:11President Trump has made it clear we don't seek war.
14:14We don't seek to nation-build.
14:16We don't seek to use chess pieces and move them around the board.
14:20All we seek is peace.
14:22All we seek is freedom and cooperation and mutual benefit.
14:28And we find that in friends like our friends in the Philippines.
14:31On the return of U.S. Defense Secretary Hegseth to the U.S.,
14:34he said he got important information from the AFP and Secretary Teodoro,
14:39information that he will tell U.S. President Donald Trump
14:42that promises to strengthen the relationship between the U.S. and the Philippines this year.
14:48For GMA Integrated News, J.P. Soriano.
14:51Tune in 24 hours.
