00:10of the Queen of Tejano Music has been denied parole in Texas.
00:14According to online records from the state's Department of Criminal Justice, news that
00:18Yolanda filed for parole broke back in January, with the 64-year-old officially becoming eligible
00:25for an early release on March 30th.
00:28This decision comes as Yolanda is serving a life sentence for murder with a deadly weapon
00:33after she shot and killed Selena at a Days Inn motel in Corpus Christi, Texas on March
00:3831st, 1995.
00:40Selena was just 23 at the time.
00:43Leading up to the murder, Yolanda was the president of the singer's fan club and began
00:48managing her boutiques.
00:50However, Selena and her husband Chris Perez had fired Yolanda just days before the murder,
00:56claiming that she had been allegedly embezzling money from them.
00:59In addition to appealing her initial guilty murder sentence in 1998, Yolanda has maintained
01:05that she quote, did not intend to murder Selena when she shot her in the back.
