00:04Prosecutors have alleged the 26-year-old, who was charged with the murder of United

00:08Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson in December, was given special treatment to change into

00:13his own clothing for a February 21st court appearance in order to accommodate his fashion

00:18needs, according to a court filing obtained by NBC News. However, when investigators searched

00:23the bag of clothing provided by Mangione's defense team, their attention quickly turned

00:28to a pair of unworn Argyle socks delivered in cardboard packaging. The Manhattan District

00:33Attorney's Office wrote in the filing,

00:35Secreted in the cardboard were two personal heart-shaped notes, one addressed to an unknown

00:39person named Joan and the other to Luigi stating, in part,

00:43No, there are thousands of people wishing you luck.

00:45Despite the violation, Mangione was still allowed to wear the garments,

00:48though he ultimately appeared stockless in court while sporting brown loafers and shackles

00:53around his ankles. The filing noted that he abandoned the socks because he felt that they

00:57did not look good. E! News has reached out to Mangione's legal team for comment but has

01:01not heard back. The Manhattan DA's filing was in response to a series of requests from

01:06the defense, including a petition for a specially formulated laptop for Mangione to review discovery

01:12in the case. However, all of his requests were opposed by prosecutors. In February,

01:17the University of Pennsylvania alum, who has pled not guilty to murder and terrorism charges,

01:22according to NBC News, thanked his supporters for the letters he has received while incarcerated.

01:27At the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, he said in a message shared on his website,

01:32which was launched by his lawyers,

01:34I am overwhelmed by and grateful for everyone who has written me to share their stories

01:38and express their support. While it is impossible for me to reply to most letters,
