00:22We welcome you to this segment of Nikki and we have been waiting for the last 2-3 days.
00:39Yesterday we started this segment and now you will see how fast it is.
00:45With this request, as these are the last days, we should try to support them as much as possible.
00:55The institution that is present here today, Alhamdulillah, in this month's Nikki segment,
01:01we have included the leading role of an organization in every department.
01:07There is no need to explain the name, it is The Hunar Foundation.
01:13It is self-explanatory and we have with us the Head of Projects, The Hunar Foundation,
01:21Air Commodore Retired, Mr. Mohammad Nasiruddin.
01:24Sir, thank you very much for coming.
01:26Thank you very much.
01:27This is a very different idea.
01:28Obviously, the institutions, charities and charitable organizations that we talk about,
01:32they are generally doing projects that provide timely relief.
01:37But by teaching someone a skill, by teaching them a job,
01:40you don't just put an individual, but an entire family at their feet.
01:43So tell me, since when has The Hunar Foundation been there?
01:46And what was the idea behind the initiative to establish such an institution?
01:50First of all, I would like to thank ARY for giving me the opportunity
01:55to introduce The Hunar Foundation here.
01:58See, there are many forms of poverty.
02:02If there is poverty, there is no education.
02:05If there is poverty, there is no health.
02:07If there is poverty, there is no good food.
02:09The solution to all these problems is to end poverty and enable people.
02:15With this idea, in 2008, some of our fellow Karachiites took up this initiative
02:22and the mission was to take illiterate and semi-literate children
02:28and provide them with such skill sets that they can stand on their own two feet.
02:34We all know this and we proudly say that Pakistan is second or third in the world in terms of youth.
02:4565% of our youth are over 60 million.
02:51Pakistan, unfortunately, is lagging behind in many other fields,
02:55even in industrialization.
02:57So if we teach local talent to 60 million people,
03:02it will not be known in the market.
03:04So the idea was to give them such skill sets that they can do internationally as well.
03:09If we can tell you in detail, what kind of training is being given?
03:15How are people being produced?
03:17If I say that we have divided our training segment into four parts.
03:22The first part is what we call the digital vertical.
03:25Today, in the world we live in, you cannot do anything without IT.
03:33So we have a digital vertical in which 60% of our students are interested.
03:39But is it semi-literate?
03:41No, I used the word literate and semi-literate.
03:45So this segment is for literate children.
03:48But let me tell you one more thing.
03:50In IT, it is a great thing that an 8th grader can be as competent as a graduate.
03:56Yes, the way we are using it.
03:58Exactly.
03:59The second vertical is the blue-collar job.
04:02In which there are industry-related, construction-related trades.
04:05That is a vertical.
04:07The third vertical is on the health sector.
04:10We are working on health.
04:12And the fourth is...
04:14Is there a category in health related to nurses?
04:19In health, we have the elderly care health and nursing law.
04:26Right.
04:27Let me tell you a good thing.
04:29When we started this trade, we were not expecting...
04:32But when our children went to hospitals,
04:35we found out that they are in great need.
04:38Exactly.
04:39They are in great need.
04:40So that is how it started.
04:41Then we...
04:42Like I said, we have a vision that we want to see a skilled Pakistan.
04:47So we...
04:48Our problems are not so much that we do it.
04:50So we got an idea.
04:51Why don't we take such small institutions,
04:54which are doing different small jobs,
04:57taking the hub and spoke concept,
05:00where our main institute is,
05:02make that institute a hub.
05:04Okay.
05:05So we named it CVSS.
05:08Community Vocational Support System.
05:13Support, right.
05:14So this is our fourth vertical.
05:16Absolutely right.
05:17Now, we are taking all of this to digitization.
05:22Like I said, we have a wish.
05:24Right now, we have 10,000 children going out every year.
05:27Yes.
05:28So let's take this to 100,000.
05:30Okay.
05:31So 100,000 cannot go like this.
05:33So till now, there are about 38,000 children.
05:36Yes, absolutely.
05:3738,000 plus.
05:38In fact, if I say now, it has become 39,000-40,000.
05:41Zindabad.
05:42These are the people who are now standing on their feet,
05:44their families and their entire...
05:45Absolutely.
05:4670% of these children are supporting their families.
05:50Great.
05:51This is a very big thing.
05:52And I would like to give you a figure.
05:56These children are paying back the government
05:59about 1.4 billion per annum.
06:02Their earnings are going back to the economy.
06:04Great.
06:051.4 billion.
06:06Great.
06:07Okay, Zindabad.
06:08Yes.
06:09Please tell me,
06:10is there any kind of collaboration or coordination
06:13with the industries of THF?
06:15Absolutely.
06:16You see,
06:17this cannot be achieved without hands and gloves
06:19with the industry.
06:21Because,
06:22like vocational training,
06:23when you introduce trade,
06:25till there is no appetite for it,
06:27Exactly.
06:28Till there is no thirst.
06:29Till there is no thirst.
06:30So,
06:31our
06:32Hunnar Foundation
06:33has an industrial linkages department.
06:35Okay.
06:36And if I say now,
06:38I can proudly say that
06:40we have about 650 industrial partners.
06:43Great.
06:44With whom we collaborate.
06:45And this is also right that
06:47the industries,
06:48the businesses,
06:49they also need good skilled people
06:51and they don't get them.
06:52Exactly.
06:53The people who do business
06:54know that building a good team
06:55is the biggest challenge.
06:56It is the biggest challenge.
06:57So, our effort is that
06:59we take our dialogue to the industry
07:02that we have the capacity to develop the HR.
07:05Right.
07:06You tell me,
07:07how do you want it?
07:08And accordingly,
07:09you also put your syllabus and other things.
07:11Exactly.
07:12We put the syllabus.
07:13We involve them.
07:14Even in the assessment,
07:15that our product has come out.
07:17The best thing about our training program
07:20is that
07:21we have a segment of 1 to 2 months
07:24which is on-job training.
07:25Okay.
07:26So, all our industrial partners,
07:28these kids go to them for 1 to 2 months.
07:31So, practically they also know things.
07:33Exactly.
07:34They know how to work in the real-time environment.
07:36The ratio is
07:37male and female.
07:39Obviously, we know
07:40that if we are talking about young people,
07:42equally there are young women as well,
07:44like men.
07:45So, in what ratio are there women
07:48who are trained here at the Hunar Foundation?
07:51Look,
07:52we have done the training very clearly
07:55in three parts.
07:56One is
07:57which I call industrial-related trades.
07:59Okay.
08:00Which are exclusively man-dominated trades.
08:01Okay.
08:02One is
08:03which are totally female-dominated trades.
08:05And IT or digital trades are co-ed.
08:08Exactly.
08:09In these three,
08:10in two of them,
08:11women are involved.
08:12Okay.
08:13So, at present,
08:1448% are women
08:16and 52% are boys.
08:17Okay.
08:18Almost 50-50.
08:19Yes, 50%.
08:20And
08:21the way I see the interest of women,
08:23there is no harm in saying
08:25that next year,
08:2650 crosses.
08:27it will shift.
08:28It will flip.
08:29It will flip.
08:30In how many cities
08:31is the THF, the Hunar Foundation working?
08:33One is,
08:34I understand the two aims of today's session.
08:35One is
08:36that we should convince people,
08:37encourage them
08:38to support the Hunar Foundation,
08:39as much as possible.
08:40And secondly,
08:41those children
08:42who want to learn the art,
08:43they should also know
08:44that there is a better institution for them.
08:46So, in which cities
08:47are these THF centers or centers?
08:51We started with Karachi.
08:53Yes.
08:54Okay.
08:55We made the first institute in Karachi.
08:56We made the second one in Karachi.
08:57Now,
08:58if I answer your question directly,
09:00at present,
09:01we have 16 institutes across Pakistan.
09:03Basically, 16.
09:04Yes.
09:0516 institutes across Pakistan.
09:07In which,
09:08you will definitely feel good
09:09that we have two institutes in Balochistan.
09:11Okay.
09:12Vindabad.
09:13Balochistan.
09:14Remote Balochistan.
09:15The area of Naukundi.
09:16Okay.
09:17We have an institute there.
09:18And in that,
09:19Mashallah,
09:20approximately
09:21350-400 girls and boys,
09:23both are getting education.
09:25And the best thing about it is
09:26that the people there
09:27and the notables there,
09:29they have realized
09:31that our children,
09:32until they learn the art,
09:34they will not be able to learn.
09:35Exactly.
09:36Similarly,
09:37in Sindh,
09:38in Tandwala Yar,
09:39we have an institute.
09:40It is outside Sindh.
09:41It is in Multan.
09:42It is in Lahore.
09:43It is in Kharia.
09:44Then,
09:45Bhurewala.
09:46It is a little ahead of Multan.
09:48Yes, in South Punjab.
09:49It is in South Punjab.
09:50It is there.
09:51And then,
09:52our other institute,
09:53it is at the main Shahra-e-Rashyam.
09:56Okay.
09:57The whole of Pakistan.
09:58The whole of Pakistan,
09:59Alhamdulillah.
10:00We are making it there.
10:01Specifically,
10:02tell us about Balochistan.
10:03What kind of training is being given there
10:05to the children?
10:06And,
10:07again,
10:08like you said,
10:09people have realized that
10:10until they learn the art,
10:11until they work,
10:12they will not be able to learn.
10:13So,
10:14I want to know about Balochistan.
10:15Because,
10:16as you said,
10:17it is in a very remote area.
10:18But,
10:19when we went to Balochistan,
10:20it was very dangerous for us.
10:21Yes.
10:22It happens to every ordinary person.
10:24But,
10:25I will tell you that
10:26we were welcomed there
10:27very well.
10:28Yes.
10:29The way people there
10:30welcomed us
10:31with both their hands.
10:32Exactly.
10:33And,
10:34you will be surprised to hear that
10:36when we took the first batch of girls,
10:38girls came to learn
10:39in the trade of masonry.
10:41Really?
10:42Because,
10:43there is a concept
10:44that people make houses
10:45with their own hands.
10:46Yes.
10:47So,
10:48Alhamdulillah,
10:49both boys and girls
10:50are doing well there.
10:51And,
10:52our area,
10:53the area of Chaghi,
10:54is where
10:55we have gold mines
10:56and all these things.
10:57So,
10:58there is a high demand
10:59for those hard trades
11:00related to mining.
11:01So,
11:02we started
11:03keeping that in mind.
11:04And,
11:05the big
11:06mining firms
11:07are also supporting us
11:08to develop
11:09our curriculum
11:10and to establish
11:11our labs
11:12and to make them.
11:13So,
11:14I think
11:15that
11:16we have a lot of
11:17potential
11:18and opportunities
11:19there.
11:20There is a lot
11:21to do there.
11:22And,
11:23people there
11:24can see
11:25that
11:26they can say
11:27that
11:28you can come
11:29and work
11:30without any worries.
11:31When we talk
11:32about
11:33skill
11:34and vocational
11:35training,
11:36generally,
11:37people think
11:38that they can
11:39teach them
11:40how to repair
11:41a car
11:42or how to
11:43open and
11:44close
11:45a motorcycle
11:46engine.
11:47So,
11:48I want
11:49that
11:50impression
11:51to be there.
11:52You are
11:53telling me
11:54that
11:55from IT
11:56to
11:57motorcycle
11:58mechanics,
11:59they should be
12:00at the level
12:01where
12:02they can
12:03teach them
12:04how to
12:05repair
12:06a car
12:07or how
12:08to
12:09open and
12:10close
12:11a motorcycle
12:12engine.
12:13So,
12:14I want
12:15that
12:16impression
12:17to be
12:18there.
12:19So,
12:20I want
12:21that
12:22impression
12:23to be
12:24there.
12:25So,
12:26I want
12:27that
12:28impression
12:29to be
12:30there.
12:31So,
12:32I want
12:33that
12:34impression
12:35to be
12:36there.
12:37So,
12:38I want
12:39that
12:40impression
12:41that
12:42informed
12:43me
12:49There are all kinds of things here.
12:50Exactly, it's all software.
12:51So it's a good thing that when you talk about vocational training and skills,
12:56it's a negative thing, but these are very respectable and profitable jobs all over the world.
13:03Very good.
13:04And their potential is outside of Pakistan as well.
13:06So tell us, are there markets outside of Pakistan for people who are training here?
13:10Yes, of course.
13:11Let me tell you, you gave me a fruitful thought.
13:15Before coming here, I had a meeting.
13:19Okay.
13:20The welding department of the Hunar Foundation has become the first welding department in Pakistan,
13:27which has been accredited by the Canadian Welding Bureau.
13:30I see.
13:31So the girls who will graduate from here will be fully based on the standardization of Canada.
13:38Similarly, in the recent past, our heat ventilation, which we call air-conditioning and refrigeration,
13:48some 12 girls recently, just before Ramadan, were selected and went to Saudi Arabia.
13:55Right.
13:567-8 girls from the welding department were selected and went to Korea.
14:00So these international standards, we are meeting them.
14:05And after going there, they will definitely be very secure in terms of their job,
14:08because they have learned it.
14:10Obviously, it is such a great thing.
14:12Now, to run it, and as you said, the goal is to take the numbers to 100,000 years.
14:18What kind of support is needed from the community?
14:21What can people who are watching right now do?
14:24It is a very good thing that you are providing food to someone on time.
14:27You are helping someone by feeding them.
14:30Exactly.
14:33You are right.
14:35There is an example in Chinese.
14:37Don't fish anybody, just teach them how to fish.
14:40So we are talking about that.
14:43And how can we get support?
14:45The first support we can get is that parents should realize that this skill is needed.
14:51And send as many children as possible to us for training.
14:55We are present to train.
14:57So first of all, I would like to request all parents.
14:59It is not about capacity.
15:01I am sorry, let's move on to the next question.
15:03A lot of people have come, and ultimately, there is a shortage of people.
15:06Does this happen?
15:08See, this will happen.
15:09Like I am talking about 100,000.
15:11So I can't make that many institutes for 100,000.
15:13As I said in the beginning, we have declared 2025 as the year of digitization.
15:18So we are going on the same concept.
15:20We are going on remote learning.
15:23All our syllabus and curriculum will be available online.
15:30People will subscribe to that.
15:32They will train on that.
15:34The teaching facility will be available.
15:37Self-paced and assisted.
15:39Both these training facilities will be available.
15:41In digital, we are already on it.
15:44So we are going in the same way for the rest.
15:46But how can people support?
15:48Yes, you can support like this.
15:52Like other institutions say, you can give Zakat.
15:59You can give donations.
16:01You can adopt one child.
16:04You can adopt a class of 25 children.
16:07You can build a lab of this kind.
16:10You can give equipment.
16:12You can build a whole center.
16:14You can adopt a whole center.
16:16There are various ways.
16:18If you want to sponsor or adopt a child,
16:22What will be the cost of adopting a child?
16:27Normally, people should know that vocational training is very different from conventional education.
16:34In conventional education, you take one teacher, make a syllabus and he will teach you.
16:39Here, every child has to do individual, practical, consumable etc.
16:45And the price of each consumable is different.
16:49If I average out all of these,
16:51It varies between 80,000 to 100,000.
16:58But for a 6-month course.
17:01Okay.
17:02For a 6-month course.
17:03For a child, 80,000 to 100,000.
17:05There is a figure of 80,000 to 90,000.
17:06We have averaged it out.
17:08In that, there is a very good chance that the child will stand on its own feet.
17:1372% of our children are economically engaged.
17:18And 15% of the children have developed such an interest that they have started pursuing further education.
17:26Zindabad.
17:27This is a very good advantage.
17:29Absolutely.
17:30Just look at this.
17:32From 80,000 to 100,000.
17:34Of course, do more than what Allah has given you.
17:37But there are a lot of people who can do it easily.
17:41Absolutely.
17:42You can change the life of a person, a young man, a young woman in such a way
17:47That they learn a great skill and stand on their own feet.
17:51And after that, God knows how many people they will be in the position of giving ration.
17:54God knows how many people they will be in the position of giving Umrah.
17:56And God knows how many people they will be in the position of feeding.
18:00There is a very small calculation.
18:01When you put a child on its feet,
18:04It feeds 6 to 8 people.
18:07It takes it with it.
18:08It takes it with it.
18:09It takes it with it.
18:10It takes 6 to 8 people with it.
18:11In actual, you are not helping that one child.
18:13You are helping at least 8 people in the family.
18:16Zindabad.
18:17Wasim Bhai.
18:18JazakAllah Sir.
18:19Thank you very much.
18:20And it is a very different idea.
18:22Yes.
