00:00I'm mindful of the historic nature of a potential candidacy,
00:04seeking to be the first ever out-nominee of a major party in American presidential politics.
00:17Let me acknowledge that I understand the audacity of running for president at my age.
00:31To me, the bumper sticker is pretty straightforward.
00:34It's freedom, democracy, and security.
00:37What I do think we need to do is bring new ideas to the table,
00:41and I don't think that we can have a restoration of the old way.
00:46When I took office, we were being dismissed as a dying community.
01:02The important thing that I think people need to know about South Bend's story
01:06is that we didn't change our trajectory because I went around saying things like,
01:11I alone can fix it, or we're going to make our city great again.
01:22I also wanted to take this opportunity just to thank South Bend and everybody there for being so supportive.
01:32I hope it gets people thinking, and I hope everybody realizes that the sun came up today,
01:36I'm the exact same person I was yesterday.
01:41It's the best way to pronounce your last name.
01:44Buttigieg, but around South Bend they just call me Mayor Pete.
02:11As people begin to have a trajectory that they might be your bench for the future,
02:16and because there is so much influence in those state and local positions that can really affect everyday life.
02:30We're the generation that lived through school shootings, that served in the wars after 9-11,
02:36and we're the generation that stands to be the first to make less than our parents unless we do something different.
02:52I'm obviously not stepping onto this stage as the most famous person in this conversation,
02:58but I belong to a party whose characteristic has always been to look for fresh voices,
03:04new leadership, and big ideas.
