Can therapy and memes about therapy have similar benefits? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Transcript
00:00Therapy memes do provide that space for people to feel connected and not alone with others
00:11because it really brings out the dark thoughts or the feelings that you don't share with
00:19anyone else.
00:20It's bringing in humor.
00:42So I find that a lot of my clients share memes with me and in terms of how they feel after
00:49therapy or after a given assignment or after an intervention, they bring it up.
00:56If I do find a therapy meme to be useful for my clients, given their reaction or the
01:03way that they process, I do bring it up if I do feel comfortable with them enough to
01:08do that, you know.
01:18It puts it into perspective, it puts it into words, it helps you to organize it in your
01:25mind like, oh, that's what it is.
01:28It really portrays your inner thoughts, whether it's like the inner critic or just a feeling
01:35even or a belief, and it puts it in a picture format.
01:58They may see it as a way to further hide feelings or thoughts and just mask it with
02:06comedy.
02:07But I think I also find that to be very important in the therapeutic setting from time to time
02:12because it allows you to open up in, if that's part of your personality, it allows you to
02:21just realize that you're human and it's okay.
