00:00The whole month of March we're talking about various forms of ejaculatory dysfunction and
00:06this week we're talking about an ejaculation or retard ejaculation, well technically delayed
00:13ejaculations.
00:20Last week we talked about retrograde ejaculation, that is a situation when there's ejaculation
00:26climax but there is no semen that is being produced, so an ejaculation can also happen
00:32however on this occasion men may not experience climax itself.
00:39So exactly what condition can result in this?
00:42So in fact the normal time or the duration of intercourse actually is ranging between
00:495 and 8 minutes.
00:51So when someone is going beyond 20 minutes or so, then it's considered a very abnormal
00:58situation to the extent that you don't even ejaculate and that is a delayed ejaculation.
01:04And we know certain medication can cause it, for example serotonin reuptake inhibitors,
01:10this is a drug used in depression.
01:13So anti-depression will push up the serotonin and that will delay the time that needs to
01:19be ejaculating, so some people don't even ejaculate.
01:23And other medical conditions such as anxiety or sexual inhibitions itself might be causing
01:29that so it's mental or psychological conditions.
01:33Whatever it is, it really does require a bit of psychological counselling and also psychological
01:41assessment in order to see whether patients can recover from such problems.
01:47Because at the end of the day, if the patient cannot produce the sperm and then infertility
01:53might become an issue and the relationship between the couples may also have problems.
01:59So the important thing is to discuss your healthcare providers, so to see whether the
02:04person can achieve climax or not, if the person can achieve climax then it is a retrograde
02:10ejaculation.
02:11If the person really cannot achieve climax, then we need to work out what are the psychological
02:17or sexual inhibitions that result in this.
02:20If someone is taking medication such as anti-cholinergic, stopping the medication will eventually resolve
02:26the problem.
02:27For the final week of the month of March, we are going to talk about another form of
02:33ejaculatory problems, technically it's not an ejaculatory problem but it's an infertility
02:39problem.
02:40What happens if you are firing blanks?
02:43How do we overcome that problem?
02:45Stay tuned for next week's Putting Dr G on the Spot.
