00:00You
00:30Welcome to Minecraft Live coming to you from the Modjang office here in Stockholm, Sweden.
00:46Today we have a packed show for you. We'll be unveiling brand new features,
00:50giving new insights from our developers and showing exclusive content from a Minecraft movie.
00:55We'll also be revealing the first steps into something that might just change how you look
01:00at your Minecraft worlds forever. You have continued to showcase your creativity in ways
01:05that we would never have imagined. Minecraft is more than a game and it's all thanks to you.
01:12Since the beginning we've been adding new blocks, features and mobs,
01:15widening our world and give you more opportunity for creativity. And there's more of that to come.
01:20Recently we've started revisiting some areas of Minecraft and looking into how we can improve
01:25our core experience. Whether that's breeding new life into existing biomes or implementing
01:30features to improve the experience for all types of players. More on that later. And if you want
01:36even more details, be sure to catch the deep dig taking place at the end of the show. For now,
01:41let's catch up with some familiar faces who just happen to be tiny experts in our game drop
01:46strategy. It's Minecraft Live already? And we're doing it twice this year? And why are there now
01:54several game drops throughout the year? Help! Not right now. I'm busy. Are you okay Tiny Boo?
02:04You look confused. Do you need us to explain how a calendar works again? Tiny Enz, Tiny Agnes,
02:10can you explain why we do game drops now? And why Minecraft Live is now two shows a year?
02:16And what are your favorite colors? Minecraft Live is now two shows that we do throughout the year.
02:23So we can communicate our evil plans to our players more often. Evil? Did I say evil?
02:31I meant to say exciting. Oh, neat! And game drops are our new release structure that we started in
02:402024. There will be several throughout the year. It means content drops of varying sizes,
02:46bringing the community new features more frequently. Oh, also neat! And my favorite
02:52color happens to be beach ball. Does that clear everything up? Everything except beach ball. Last
02:58year we released three game drops, bringing armadillos, wolf variants, this pale garden
03:03biome, and more to Minecraft. Don't forget the creaking. I wish I could vote to not remember
03:09the creaking. What? We don't do voting. Already this year we have previewed our first 2025 game
03:17drop, bringing new nature blocks, different types of cows, pigs, and chickens, and firefly bushes to
03:24Minecraft. Aww! But that's just the beginning of what we've got planned. Today we'll be sharing
03:31details of another brand new game drop coming this year. Wow! Can we call it the tiny vood drop?
03:37I think we need to have a talk again off camera. Hooray!
03:46Ah, fresh egg!
03:47Hello, I'm Agnes, and I'm so happy to be here with you all again. We have quite many things
04:08we would love to share with you all today, and we will start with something that many of you
04:12have already been testing. And today I'm happy to announce the name and date for our upcoming
04:18drop. It's called Spring to Life, and it will actually be releasing in just a few days time,
04:24on March 25th. We want to revisit some existing biomes to make them more delightful and to give
04:31them a clearer and more unique personality. And in that way, we hope to enhance some of the
04:37existing core values Minecraft already has, like exploration and building, because it's
04:43so much more exciting and inspiring and fun to journey through the Minecraft world and to make
04:48it your own when the places you see are more immersive and varied. And here to talk more
04:53about Spring to Life are our lovely decks. Spring to Life is only a couple of days away now.
05:02I'm really excited for players to get their hands on it and play with all the new features
05:06we've added. I think it's a nice bit of sort of spring cleaning to the overworld biomes.
05:12The overall goal for this drop is to make the biomes feel way more different from each other
05:16and more alive. And the way we've done that is by adding new blocks that are unique to certain
05:23biomes. We've added mob variations that occur in certain biomes, and then we've added new
05:28sounds and moving particles to add some feeling of motion as well.
05:34I think our current farm animal mobs are pretty iconic. So I wanted to keep like some of the
05:41features that I think are important to them. But at the same time, I wanted to kind of introduce
05:46some kind of like new colors or for like the cows, I introduced some like different horn types and
05:51stuff. For the cold cow, we were inspired by the highland cattle, which is very fluffy and very
05:57fuzzy, very cute. We have the hot climate pig, which is the red river hog kind of inspired that
06:02has this cool markings on its face and everything. And then we have cold or cool chicken,
06:09which is inspired by Polish chickens, which have some really nice kind of feathers going on.
06:14I think my favorite is the cool chicken, just because I get to say cool chicken around the
06:19office a lot. The new sounds we've added is sounds for the desert, sounds for firefly bush,
06:29sounds for the leaf litter, and sound personalities for the wolves.
06:34The desert biome is a really peaceful place. You will start to hear sounds of sand and wind.
06:43And hopefully you will feel the emptiness of the desert. The overworld got ambient sounds
06:49attached to the blocks. So if the player removes all of the blocks, the sound goes away. And if
06:55the player is bringing these blocks that have sounds, you bring the sound as well.
07:00And we think some players who really want to like stretch their building skills and
07:04take it a bit further will start trying to incorporate sounds into their builds as well.
07:11The wolf sounds are actually not wolves, it's dogs.
07:15I went to a dog daycare and recorded a lot of dogs.
07:21Could you do the mad wolf?
07:26We've also made some other changes to add more movement to the overworld.
07:30For example, with the new firefly bush, the block attracts firefly particles that move around
07:36above it, which is really nice when you find them in the swamp or near rivers.
07:40And because the fireflies come out in darkness and go away in the light,
07:44like a technical player can even switch them on and off.
07:47So there's a lot that you can do with this block.
07:49I'm really excited about the new spawn eggs too.
07:52For players who play in creative mode, we have so many mobs in the game now,
07:55and the spawn eggs, they were starting to look a bit all the same.
07:58Like it gets harder and harder to remember which one is which.
08:01So I think the new art is just fantastic.
08:04And there's so much character and personality.
08:07Similar to the changes to the lodestone recipe,
08:10we also wanted to change the cartographer villager trait so that you get more maps to
08:15In case you missed anything, here's a summary from our friends at Element Animation.
08:45So
08:57Huh
09:03Huh
09:14Huh
09:33Huh
10:03So
10:33So
10:47Ah
11:04Hi, I'm Emma, and I play Natalie in a Minecraft movie.
11:08I started playing Pocket Edition with my friends way back when I was like 10.
11:12We were on a competitive dance team,
11:14and whenever we had a spare moment, we'd play Minecraft together.
11:17Action!
11:18Guys, I've read about this. We're experiencing a shared delusion.
11:23When I was offered the role of Natalie,
11:24it felt like such a cool opportunity to bring together my love of acting and Minecraft.
11:30I was blown away when I stepped on set for the first time.
11:34It sunk in that I was in Minecraft.
11:36It was such a cool moment seeing all the set pieces come together.
11:39It was the details that really stuck out to me, though.
11:41The life-size blocky trees, the cute potatoes, and how interactive the village set was.
11:48Oh my gosh!
11:49It felt spot on, like I was walking right into the game.
11:53We've got a clip to share that took place on that amazing set.
11:56This is the first time Natalie and the crew have stepped into a Minecraft village,
12:00and they start to learn the ins and the outs of this new and very different world.
12:11Here it is! Midport Village!
12:13Whoa, whoa, whoa. Who are these guys?
12:15Oh, these dudes? They're the villagers!
12:18The total pacifists and vegetarians.
12:20You don't bug them, they won't bug you.
12:22They just like to chill, trade, and eat buttloads of bread.
12:26They love crushing loaf.
12:28So they built all this?
12:29Yeah, most of it.
12:30But the good stuff you see, that's all Steve.
12:34Anything you can dream about here, you can make.
12:37Zero limits.
12:41Relax, it's just an iron golem.
12:43Local security force.
12:47But they're a bunch of big softies!
12:52Unless you start messing with the villagers.
12:54Don't ever do that!
12:56This place makes no sense.
12:57Come with me!
13:01Yo, need protein like Proto.
13:03I got just the place, buddy.
13:09Hello there.
13:12Oh dude, I got goose pimples just walking up on it.
13:15You ever wonder what happens when you mix hot lava and chicken?
13:19I did, and you're about to find out.
13:27Oh!
13:37The village might look peaceful for now,
13:38but later in the movie, it's the center of a ton of action.
13:42I had a lot of fun training for the fight scenes
13:44and learning how to take out hostile mobs.
13:46Surprisingly enough, my dance background really helped with the stunts.
13:49I mean, fight choreography and dancing do have a lot in common.
13:52A Minecraft movie is coming to theaters on April 4th.
13:55Get your tickets now!
13:57If you can't wait to experience some of the things the movie has in store,
14:01Mojang has you covered.
14:02Starting on March 25th, you'll be able to join an in-game live event
14:06where you can play mini-games inspired by the movie
14:08and even earn an exclusive cape.
14:10Stick around until the very end of the show
14:12where Jens and I will play a quest from the live event.
14:15Wish me luck!
14:56So
15:00So
15:25Oh no!
15:26I'm very much looking forward to share our new Unseen game drop.
15:31But before that, we have something a bit different
15:34that will first come to Bedrock in a few months.
15:37And we can see it as the start of a new journey.
15:41And Jens and Jasper are here to talk more about it.
15:48In the beginning, we would create the art for Minecraft's new features
15:52as we were developing them.
15:54I made the pixel art for lots of things.
15:56And though I enjoyed doing that, I wouldn't call myself an artist.
16:00Over time, and after seeing all the cool things players were making,
16:04we decided that vanilla Minecraft deserved something better.
16:07So we brought in dedicated visual artists to work on the game.
16:11World of Colors was the first update to include their work.
16:14Minecraft's simple style also encouraged players
16:17to create their own textures and shaders to customize the look of the game.
16:21Now, we are very excited to show you the next step for Minecraft's visual design.
16:26A new look that still stays true to our creative principles.
16:29I'm proud to present Vibrant Visuals.
16:40Vibrant Visuals is a visual upgrade of the game.
16:42It enhances all the visuals and everything you see,
16:45but it doesn't influence gameplay.
16:47When you enter the game, there's an immediate sense of wonder.
16:50You see the sun shining through the trees,
16:53maybe behind the mountain, maybe through the clouds.
16:56It makes the game have a really epic scale,
17:00and it's so much more interesting to explore.
17:03You might notice when you look at the blocks
17:05that light behaves a bit differently on the textures.
17:08This is because we have used a method
17:10that allows us to create extra textures for every texture,
17:14and this will enhance how the lighting behaves on the block.
17:18We have improved all our emissive textures,
17:21so stuff actually glows now, like spider eyes or enderman eyes.
17:27In the lush caves, it also looks very, very nice
17:29with all the glow berries around there.
17:32When you're building your house,
17:33you might want to be a little bit pickier now
17:35because you will likely want to make it face the sun.
17:38Because compared to before,
17:40now the light will actually shine through your windows and light up your room.
17:45In the past, whenever I took screenshots of my own builds,
17:48I tended to do them when it was dawn or dusk in the day and night cycle
17:53because that gave the most interesting contrast.
17:55Now with vibrant visuals, the directional light
17:58and the shadows and all the effects
18:00will give you a much more opportunity
18:02to create very interesting screenshots.
18:05One of my favorite new improvements is the water.
18:08The water has reflection now, and it looks absolutely amazing.
18:14The deep dark, the skulk is now emissive
18:17and creates a really magical scene.
18:19Before, it did so as well, but now it's more immersive.
18:27One of my favorite things that the team created
18:29is the way shadows align with the grids and pixels.
18:32I've not seen that in any other game, and it feels true to Minecraft.
18:36The shadows, they add a lot of good contrast to the world.
18:39It helps put everything in context,
18:41and it will make the world feel a little bit more familiar.
18:44You can also see in the reflections that they're pixelated
18:47according to the texture.
18:49This is for the sake of consistency, and we think it looks great.
18:55So vibrant visuals is backwards compatible with all your old worlds.
19:00You can just turn it on in the settings.
19:02It runs locally, so you can play together with your friends
19:07that don't have it activated in the same server.
19:12When we started developing Vibrant Visuals,
19:15we felt that it was important to do something new and fresh
19:18while keeping it true to vanilla,
19:20and I think Jasper and the team did a great job.
19:22Though we are sharing the first news of Vibrant Visuals today,
19:26we are at the very start of a long journey.
19:28We believe this is something very special for the game.
19:31We are bringing Vibrant Visuals to a broad range of devices.
19:35This graphical upgrade is planned for Java,
19:38and we're exploring how to do it.
19:39But the first version will be available
19:41on compatible Bedrock devices in the coming months.
19:44I hope these new features will inspire people
19:46to create even more amazing builds.
20:05Thanks.
20:10And now it's time to announce a never-before-seen game drop.
20:15It's something completely new,
20:16and I must confess I'm very excited about it.
20:20It's something that helps you build really big structures.
20:24It's something that might make you create
20:26a completely new kind of relationship with an existing mob.
20:30And it's also something that makes it extra precious
20:33to journey through the Minecraft world together with your friends.
20:37Hmm...
20:38And it all starts with a rather special,
20:40and possibly quite sad,
20:42new block you find in the Nether.
20:46More precisely in the soul sand valleys
20:49around these familiar, odd-looking bone structures.
20:53But if you take a closer look,
20:56you might notice something you haven't seen before.
21:00It's a bit hard to tell from behind,
21:02but if you look from the other side,
21:04you will see a sad face that you probably recognize.
21:08It's a dried ghast.
21:15The dried ghast is a little bit smaller than a regular block,
21:18and well, it has these cute little tentacles on the sides,
21:22and has this just a little bit grumpy face to it.
21:27It seems very dehydrated.
21:30Then you might think that,
21:31well, let's put water on it,
21:33but there is no water in Nether.
21:37So we can bring it to somewhere where there is water.
21:39We'll pick up the block from the Nether,
21:41bring it with us from the Nethertooth through a portal,
21:45and what better way to rehydrate a dried ghast
21:50than just put it in water?
21:52And then we wait.
21:56And wait.
21:59A little bit over time it's gonna start,
22:01first it's grumpy, right?
22:03Then it gets neutral,
22:03then it's gonna start to smile more and more.
22:07Because then a ghastling is spawned.
22:15It's so cute.
22:18It's a baby.
22:19It's precious.
22:20It's a baby.
22:21He's smiling.
22:22He's happy.
22:27So the ghastling just floats around the overworld.
22:32It's a little balloon, basically, right?
22:34So yeah, it does what a balloon does.
22:35It floats and goes around,
22:37but it's also very curious.
22:39So it's gonna somewhat imprint over players or mobs
22:42and just follow them around a bit until it gets bored.
22:45And then it's just gonna go and follow something else.
22:49This one will not spit fireballs,
22:51but you can feed it with something, Agnes.
22:54Yes.
22:56It actually is quite fond of snowballs instead.
23:00Of course.
23:00I think it's so adorable.
23:02It's both hydration and cooling down.
23:05And when it grows up,
23:07it turns into yet another new thing,
23:10which is the happy ghast.
23:15Yeah, the happy ghast is friendly towards the player.
23:18It's gonna roam around, fly around.
23:20If the ghast brings you fires,
23:22the happy ghast brings you smiles.
23:27There's one more thing you can do with happy ghasts.
23:30You can fly on it,
23:33which is obviously what you long for
23:35when you see your buddy flying around in the sky.
23:37You want to go flying with it.
23:39So if you craft a harness for your ghast,
23:42you can tempt the ghast to come closer with the harness,
23:45put the harness on and jump up on it.
23:50An interesting thing about the harness also
23:51is that you can use it as an indicator
23:53to see if someone is riding the ghast
23:55because, well, it's got these goggles
23:59and if someone is riding it,
24:00they go down in front with the eyes.
24:04We have a new neat feature as well, Agnes.
24:08The locator bar, right?
24:09Yes, so we have a new feature, the locator bar,
24:12which you see at the bottom of the screen.
24:14And there you can see in which direction your friends are.
24:18So then when you're out flying on the happy ghast,
24:20for example, and want to find your friend,
24:22you see, okay, I should travel here.
24:24You can actually be up to four players on the happy ghast
24:28so you can fly on it together.
24:31So you can be the passenger princess on my ghast.
24:33Of course.
24:38I think the happy ghast is going to be a great tool
24:41for our survival builders
24:43because it's a bit like being in creative mode,
24:46but in survival, right?
24:47You have this platform that allows you to position
24:49wherever you want in the sky
24:51and then you can just dismount and fly.
24:54Build from the position you are at,
24:56which is super convenient when working on mega builds
24:59or sky bases or tall towers.
25:02It's super, super handy.
25:04What I like is the opportunity we have with all these things.
25:08We have the dried ghast with all of its decorative applications,
25:13the ghastling, which is livening up a base,
25:16which is just lovely.
25:18Then there is the happy ghast
25:19with all of the shenanigans you can do with.
25:21With the PvP, the construction, racing,
25:24and so many more things.
25:28Very soon, players will be able to try out these new features
25:31in snapshots, betas, and previews,
25:33and we are so excited to see all the feedback we're going to get.
25:41Today, we announced our second game drop of the year.
25:44It will start dried ghasts, ghastlings, happy ghasts, and more.
25:49Look forward to a ghastly summer.
25:53We also announced Vibrant Visuals,
25:55a graphics upgrade coming soon to Bedrock.
25:58Oh, and the first drop of 2025 is arriving on March 28th,
26:04starring both cold and warm picks.
26:07Along with leaf litter,
26:08new leaf falling particle effects,
26:10and loads more features that we don't have time to talk about
26:13before this ghast crashes.
26:15Before this what?
26:17Heh, I mean, lands safely.
26:23Now, if you'll excuse me,
26:27I'm off to co-host the aftershow.
26:29But that's with average-sized Jens, Agnes, and Wu.
26:34Oh, but don't worry.
26:36We can watch it together right now.
26:42Three, two, one.
