00:00The Department of Agriculture has filed a complaint against a supposed company behind the attempted smuggling
00:06of 2.37 million pesos worth of fresh yellow onions from China.
00:11According to DA, the 25 metric tons of white onions arrived at Manila South Harbor last July of the previous year
00:18and were found to lack sanitary and phytosanitary import clearances.
00:23The Bureau of Plant and Industry, National Plant Quarantine Division, Port of Manila Area Manager Henrik Xconde
00:31questioned the company's importation of the agricultural product as the issuance of SPSIC for white onions was suspended at the time.
00:41DA also added that the company failed to provide a valid reason for importing the yellow onions without the required SPSIC,
00:49which is essential to ensure the safety of the shipment entering the country.
00:54Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tur Laurel Jr. further highlighted that their agency would strengthen the campaign against agricultural smuggling
01:03in partnership with other relevant government agencies.
01:07This is under the Anti-Agricultural Economic Sabotage Act.
