00:00So, Matt Barnes, Energy Strategic Services, we are standing in front of the entrance to the new passing route at Gosforth between Newquay and Parr.
00:12This passing route is at the heart of what we call the Metro. It will allow us to be working with our partners at Cornwall Council and Limerick Rail.
00:20This passing route will allow us to pass two trains on the Newquay line for the first time and run an hourly local service for a very long time.
00:28That hourly local service means that we can provide proper local journeys when people want them for the communities on the line, particularly for Newquay itself.
00:37Until 2020, the first train out of Newquay was at 10am. We were able to fix that in 2020, but nonetheless, providing hourly services is a real step change.
00:48We have seen how, when we did add those couple of extra morning trains in December 2020, we've seen demand really grow at Newquay, 30-40% growth since then,
00:59which gives us a lot of confidence that people will use this line, which initially, once the infrastructure is finished, will allow us to go to an hourly service between Newquay and Parr towards the end of the year.
01:11We'll announce the date in due course, but ultimately will allow us to link up trains between Newquay and Falmouth as part of what we call the Metro vision.
