00:00We are in this together.
00:02Canada and the US are intimately
00:04connected through so many ways as
00:07they so often do Windsorites and
00:10Michiganders plan to come together
00:12Saturday this time in solidarity
00:15and in protest. We thought that,
00:17you know, coming together was a strong
00:21message to send to show the White
00:24House that the citizens both on
00:26both sides, Canadian and American,
00:29we respect each other.
00:30We love each other and we really
00:33want to go back to what things
00:36used to be. Audrey Boyle
00:38lives in a Detroit suburb,
00:39but like many in this area,
00:42has strong connections to
00:43the other side of the river.
00:45She says she couldn't stand by as
00:48President Trump's tariffs and veiled
00:50threats to annex Canada continued.
00:52What a shame. I mean how
00:54ashamed we all are. You know
00:56about this Saturday, March 22nd
00:58in the afternoon, she and a group
01:00of protesters will gather in Detroit
01:03Hart Plaza while their Canadian
01:04counterparts will rally beneath the
01:06Canadian flag at the foot of Olet.
01:08So we will be really facing each other.
01:10She says the protest also targets
01:13Trump's alignment with billionaire
01:14Elon Musk. What I really feel is
01:17that it's us, the people across
01:19countries against them. A sentiment
01:22that has already sparked movements,
01:24including boycotts of Musk's Tesla brand.
01:27So they are driving around now.
01:29In something that has become symbolic
01:31of a particular person and a
01:33particular kind of a politics.
01:35University of Manitoba
01:36Sociology Professor Mark Hudson,
01:37who has studied the Tesla takedown
01:39protests, sees a broader trend
01:41emerging. There's also a broader,
01:43deeper undercurrent around this,
01:44which is about the question of the
01:46influence of the super rich in politics
01:49and and democratic processes. Boyle
01:51sees that trend too, and it invites
01:53everyone to join in.
01:55Get in on it. We want to send a very
01:58clear message that we are completely
02:01connected now. Organizers say more than
02:03anything, there's a real desire to
02:06return to normalcy in this community.
02:08Two communities really that just
02:10happened to be split by an
02:13international border. Ricardo.
02:14OK, Travis, thank you for that.
02:17That's the TV's Travis Fortman tonight.
