00:00Now, the number of accidents involving motorcycles is increasing, and they are asking for proper training for the riders.
00:07Now, some riders are worried because of the increased expenses.
00:12And we have the first news, Joseph Moro.
00:18This motorcycle rider fell on the side of Quezon Avenue in Quezon City after crashing into a taxi.
00:25He was taken to the hospital after he was injured.
00:28When he crashed into me, I said, why did I crash? I was in the right lane.
00:35Another rider in Cagayan, De Oro City, was even more shocked because he was in the way of a truck that crashed into him last Saturday.
00:44A police officer was also killed and he was taken to the hospital after a mini-dump truck hit his motorcycle in Toledo, Cebu last week.
00:53Those are just a few of the motorcycle accidents reported in the first half of 2024.
00:59The average number of motorcycle accidents in Metro Manila is more than 2,000,
01:05which is equivalent to 57 accidents per day.
01:09In 2023, the most number of motorcycle accidents were caused by cars.
01:15Of course, as the population of motorcycles grows,
01:19the accident rate will naturally increase.
01:24The number of motorcycles registered in the country will reach seven million based on the latest data from the Land Transportation Office.
01:32But this is still a small number compared to other countries in Southeast Asia like Vietnam,
01:37where more than 72 million motorcycles were registered in 2020.
01:43There are more motorcycles and accidents.
01:46That's why the motorcycle sector is looking for a solution.
01:50But the problem is that it's heavy in the pockets of most people.
01:54It's really heavy.
01:55How much did you see?
01:57It's around 2,000 pesos.
01:59It's around 4,000 pesos.
02:03It's just right.
02:04It's just right?
02:05Yes, it's just right.
02:06Until now, how many legitimate driving schools are there in the Philippines?
02:13In motorcycles?
02:15You can enroll for free on the MMDA website.
02:19And because there is a proposed law to make motorcycles for hire app a legal public utility vehicle,
02:25proper training is important.
02:27Meanwhile, the motorcycle sector is asking for consultation with the transportation department
02:33so that they can use the bike lane once EDSA rehabilitation starts.
