00:00Okay, if I ask you to blow up a balloon, no problem with that, right?
00:02No problem.
00:03All right.
00:04So I have one here for you.
00:05Here it is.
00:06Now, a regular balloon is stretchy, but that's not really fair.
00:08Okay.
00:09So that's why this one's 8 feet long, 10 inches around, and holds 45 liters of air.
00:14Here's what we're going to do.
00:15We tie off the end like this.
00:16I want you to breathe into the bag.
00:18How many breaths do you think it's going to take you to blow up the bag?
00:21Hundreds.
00:22Okay, here we go.
00:23All right.
00:24This could be a long, long show.
00:25He always does this to me.
00:26All right.
00:27So here we go.
00:28You're going to put your hand right here, and you're just going to blow right into the
00:30bag.
00:31Okay.
00:32And that'll be one breath, and then take your mouth off.
00:33There's one.
00:34That's good.
00:35Keep going.
00:36This might be a good time for you to, I don't know, get a sandwich, eat a cookie.
00:43How many so far?
00:44No, don't pass out.
00:45How many?
00:46Six.
00:47Six.
00:48All right.
00:49Let's slide it down.
00:50Look at this.
00:51Here.
00:52This is great.
00:53I'm getting lightheaded.
00:54This is great.
00:55This is six breaths of air.
00:56So if this is six, this is 12, this is, I don't know, maybe-
00:58Let's say 24.
00:5918.
01:00I'm going to say 24 for the entire bag.
01:01Fair enough?
01:02Fair enough.
01:03All right.
01:04What if you could do it less?
01:05If you could do it in a single breath of air, that would be totally amazing, right?
01:07It would be awesome.
01:08And in order to do that, you're going to stand back there so you can see what's going to
01:12happen.
01:13So you head back that way.
01:14All right.
01:15Watch this.
01:16So now, there's no air in the bag.
01:17So the secret is, you put your fingers in the bag like this.
01:20You open up the bag, and then you blow a fast stream of air into the bag, but you've got
01:25to keep your mouth off the bag.
01:26Watch this.
01:27Bam.
01:28And that is the single breath of air.
01:34I did it by using Bernoulli's principle.
01:38In 1738, Daniel Bernoulli discovered that fast-moving air creates an area of low pressure.
01:47The secret is, the bag is away from my mouth.
01:50So that fast-moving air going into the bag actually allows the air molecules on the outside
01:54of the bag to go into the bag from the side, filling the bag with a single breath of air.
02:01Fast-moving air flowing into the bag actually creates a low-pressure area around the outside
02:06of the bag.
02:07So the bag fills instantly.
02:10Ready?
02:11And a long puff.
02:12Ready?
02:13That's it.
02:14Seal it.
02:15Grab it.
02:16Slide it down.
02:17It works.
02:18Perfect.
02:19Isn't that amazing?
02:20Amelia, when is this most fun?
02:21Well, when you have a lot of friends.
02:22We have a lot of friends.
02:23All right, guys.
02:24Let's go.
02:25See you later.
02:26Nice.
02:27Ta-da!
02:28Nice job.
02:29Who would think that you could have this much fun with a great big long bag and some knowledge
02:39about controlling the flow of air?
02:41It's Bernoulli's principle, and it's all about flight.
