Alyansa bets admit Duterte arrest affecting campaign

Alyansa Para Sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial candidates on Match 14, 2025 admitted that former president Rodrigo Duterte's arrest on a warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) has been affecting their campaign given that the former chief executive has a lot of supporters. They urged the public to 'let justice take its due course' instead of escalating 'divisiveness.'

00:00The arrest of FDRRD, knowing that many supporters frowned upon it and you are admin debts, does that have an effect on your campaign, on your candidature?
00:15I think sinagot ko na kanina na sabi ko I'll be very honest, may effect ko talaga kasi hindi natin makikakaila na maraming insang supporter especially in Mindanao and even in the Visayas. So, meron.
00:31Ngayon, ang tanong mo kung mali o tama, all in time will tell.
Yung International Criminal Court is the global court of the powerless, meaning court of the disordered.
01:19Yung kanilang general jurisdiction, ito yung nag-deal with war crimes, genocide, crimes against humanity. Doon naka-focus yung kanilang jurisdiction.
01:50Hypothetically ito na mag-invade. So ako, personal opinion ko, we should rejoin. And I limit my answer to my personal opinion na global court of the powerless.
02:10Ito yung universally abhorred crimes committed against a group of people, binanggit na genocide, and so forth. So very strong angle ito, we should rejoin.
02:40As an undersecretary right now, I would love to personally commend our embassy in the Hague for the efforts done and for funding the mandate of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations by providing the necessary assistance to President Duterte.
03:03Tama po yun kahit sino Pilipino tulungan. Pero personal no, tayo po ay nalungkutan, tayo po ay kagalai-ilangkasan, hindi lang para kay President Duterte kundi sa bansang Pilipinas.
03:20Third, as a lawyer, and I'm sure the former president has his own legal team, there are avenues to be pursued. They can invoke Article 60 of the Rome Statute that can provide an interim release.
03:42But the trial, mahal na yung kabuhatan niya. So yan naman po yung mga paraan kung pwedeng makalagay po doon na pag may idad na sakit, pwede niya house arrest sa debate. So yan po kayo on the legal side.
03:59But all of this, including your 2nd question, would have to be tackled by the 12th Congress kasi kakailangan din ng ratification ng Senado kung kailangan bumalik sa ICC. Lampusin mo ang opposition.
04:29Music.
