00:00Bodybuilder Jodie Vance has died at just 20 years old after suffering a fatal heart attack.
00:05Her family shared the sad news in a message posted to Vance's Instagram account four days ago that reads,
00:11From Jodie's family and loved ones.
00:13For those that haven't heard yet, Jodie passed away yesterday afternoon.
00:17Her heart stopped due to complications of severe dehydration.
00:21Despite all efforts by the hospital, they were unable to revive her.
00:25She was a beautiful person inside and out and she will be missed every single day.
00:29This was sudden and unexpected.
00:31Please give her family time to process this loss in peace.
00:35If anyone takes anything from this, please put your health first.
00:38The bodybuilder's trainer, Justin Mahaley, shared a video on his account with the permission of Vance's mother.
00:43He spoke about the athlete's work ethic and shared further details about her unexpected death,
00:49revealing it's believed that some substances she took to improve her physique may have contributed to her death.
00:55Now that the family and I have spoken,
00:58it's the appropriate time to make a statement covering all aspects of what transpired the last few days that tragically took Jodie's life far too soon.
01:09First, we're all experiencing grief.
01:12Every one of us is experiencing sorrow. Jodie was freaking loved.
01:16And if you feel comfortable moving forward by working to identify who's responsible, that's acceptable.
01:23And you're welcome to direct your blame towards me if that's how you believe we can best honor Jodie.
01:31I believe the person that she was should be highlighted.
01:35In Jenny's words, I believe the beam of light that she brought to every social interaction, networking event, expo, show.
01:45I think that should be highlighted.
01:48Comfort Jodie can make someone feel that the intellect that Jodie carried,
01:53the person that she was, the way that she loved, I want to highlight and I'm going to remember Jodie that way.
02:01That being said, Jodie made a significant error that was not part of our shared responsibility and should not be taken lightly.
02:09We want to make sure this never happens again.
02:11And when Jenny believes that the time is right, we will be sharing more advocacy and action around this.
02:18Jodie used two extremely hazardous substances to improve her physique.
02:24I assume just for the Arnold Expo without my knowledge, my approval, without family's knowledge, their approval.
02:31But Jodie was not prepping for Arnold. She was not in peak week.
02:35So there's no reason she should have been dehydrated.
02:39Jodie competed back in December. Jodie wanted to compete the Battle of Texas this year.
02:44It wasn't an official game plan. It was a target to shoot for. Jodie is an action taker.
02:50She's someone who loves having a target to hunt down.
02:53And so we put that as a target rather than a commitment.
02:57But recently that the health had become quite concerning.
03:01And now we know why. Now we have the answers.
03:05Many people who love Jodie, including myself, try to get her to pull off the gas pedal a bit.
03:11Anyone who knows Jodie knows how challenging that would be.
03:16Her work ethic was actually second to nobody.
03:22It was so hard getting her to pull back.
