00:02Government has shut down Power Africa, a program launched in 2013 by former President Barack

00:07Obama to expand electricity access across Africa, according to a report.

00:13Most of Power Africa's programs have been marked by termination, and the majority of

00:18its staff have been dismissed.

00:21Some remaining initiatives, particularly those that connect projects with U.S. companies,

00:27will continue under different government policies.

00:31A State Department spokesperson said that each program is under review to determine

00:36whether it aligns with U.S. national interests.

00:40He said programs that deserve the nation's interest will continue, however, programs

00:44that aren't aligned with the nation's interest will not.

00:48Power Africa, operated under U.S. aid, aimed to bring electricity to tens of millions of

00:53African households.

00:55Its closure is part of broader federal projects caught under Trump administration as efforts

01:01to reduce government spending gain momentum.
