00:00Last month we challenged ourselves to completely renovate this 47 year old caravan in 30 days and you guys
00:08We failed the challenge
00:11Disaster I know but we did it in 32 days. We're gonna give you a full tour now
00:30Let's
00:34Guys are you recording? I'm recording. We're recording Burt's done guys
00:39We absolutely
00:41Smashed it. Oh, I've never worked so hard in my life even construction days. No, that was harder
00:47Huh, it was insane. Well, I guess with construction you got a day off a week at least didn't you?
00:51Yeah, but this there was just no days off. My brain is sizzled. So we'll start outside
00:58We did the paint in the original color that Burt was when we got him for those of you that are new here
01:02The caravans name is Burt and that caravans name is Myrtle. I know or Mert
01:08Big Mert. We just love the colors of the old vintage caravans. It's so
01:14Aesthetic yeah
01:16Yeah, so we just love it. So we kept it like that
01:19We resealed all the windows resealed all the J rails when we bought the caravan
01:24It was sealed, but I just did it again just for peace of mind
01:27We got a sticker on the front there. You can't go traveling without one of them on there
01:30we put this nice tower rail here and
01:32Ended up keeping this pipe down here as well because it actually holds all the awning poles that the caravan came with
01:38So we'll keep that for the storage for those poles
01:42little thing as well is
01:45Burt's actually going in in a couple days to get his drawbar reinforced because I just want to do that for peace of mind
01:53There is a bit of rust in it. So we're gonna fix that all up and do it properly
01:56We put a new hitch on it because the other one was absolutely destroyed and we just put a Elko
02:02Jockey wheel on there if you're following along, you know
02:05We needed one of them very badly because it caused me to hurt my back which still hurts today
02:10We put new lifters on I think they were 45 kilo lifters all round
02:15We couldn't pull the tent down before we put the solar panels on
02:19So while we're on the solar panels, actually, we've got 600 watts of Renogy solar panels on the top bringing in about 40 amps
02:25I think it is. We've seen about 41 amps coming in, which is great
02:28We've got our solar lead running down here into the roof and we've actually got some yellow paint there Megan. Oh, yeah
02:35We're gonna fix that and we ended up putting on the canvas that came with the caravan is brand new
02:40Which was a big score for us. I also installed a lockable
02:44Water inlet here for our drinking water and another cool thing that we did is we actually changed
02:50Bert's tires and rims to 14-inch rims and 185 size tires
02:56We also did the wheel bearings for peace of mind and we flipped the springs
03:00So the axles on the bottom now, which lifted Bert just a little bit more
03:03That's the biggest issue we had with Myrtle our bigger caravan. We would always bottom out
03:08So flipping these axles has made a huge difference and we're really considering doing it on Myrtle
03:13We've got a grey water tank at the front and we got a 52 litre drinking water tank at the rear
03:19We don't plan on traveling in this full time
03:21So it wasn't designed with the idea of going off-grid for weeks at a time
03:26So 52 litres of drinking water is absolutely perfect
03:29You come around the back. There's not too much happening outside the caravan
03:33It's just we did a paint job putting your canvas on tires and rims. We've got this bar here, which holds our
03:41Spare tire. I've got to paint this actually. I reckon we should paint that. Yeah, it's just primer at the moment
03:46I forgot about that
03:48Million things on our minds throughout this build. Oh, I've just noticed. Yeah
03:51Oh, yeah
03:51We got one of our stickers over that and I've done all new window seals around the whole caravan as well all locks on the windows
03:58all perfectly
04:01Working except for two which we won't talk about. Should we go inside and show them the good stuff? Yeah, he has turned out
04:07Better than we could have ever imagined. So good. Megan has designed Bert in my opinion amazingly
04:19Look at him guys
04:20Can you actually believe this compared to where we were four weeks ago because we can't believe it
04:26We're in shock. It's insane. It is so beautiful and so cozy. Ouch I just hit my head
04:33This is terrible
04:35But anyway, where do you want to start? Where should we start? Let's start with our kitchen
04:38So we ended up staining this bench top that we put in that last episode and we stained all of this and it's looking
04:46Beautiful, so we'll start with our upper cabinets here
04:49we are just using this as sort of like a little snack cupboard and then we've also got all of our drinking glasses and
04:57Mugs here, which I always love when things just slot perfectly. So once we put that one in there you guys will see
05:07It's not going anywhere. Yeah, so
05:09That
05:11That sort of thing in van life just makes me really happy
05:13One thing that we are going to be doing to this cupboard though
05:15Just to add a little bit more security is add like a little strip of wood here
05:20Yeah, just in case these go flying. I was sort of hoping. Oh, they don't even fall out. Well, if they're a little bit wider
05:26It would have been fine, but we just do the little wood. Talk about your little coffee station
05:32You just need to do what you can to make things feel really homey when you're on the road. 12 bucks from good sammies
05:38Have it. That is what is going to make talking about this build really really easy because with the furnishings
05:45We got this from an op shop and we got this from an op shop and everything else
05:51Came up. Yeah, so if you want to ask where we got anything to do with the furnishing it is
05:5799% going to be Kmart and everything else is going to be Bunnings or caravan RV camping and that's pretty much
06:02Yeah, though that being said we are going to be doing a blog post on our website of every single little thing that has
06:09Gone into the Burt build and be calling our Burt build checklist or something like that
06:14But we're gonna have that up on the website for you today
06:17So we'll link that down below and you can go and have a look if you're interested in anything else in the build
06:22So we've got our nice big sink here from Bunnings turned out amazing, which is all does it work? We've got no water
06:27Do we know there's no water in the tank at the moment?
06:29We also got this from Kmart a nice little tea towel hook just to bring the coastal palm tree vibes. We've got our
06:35Dometic fridge which we showed you last week when we're installing it. It's decent
06:41It can pack so much stuff in it
06:43One thing we did notice we had a comment from about coffee catch-up viewers saying
06:47It would have been better if we had the fridge door on this side
06:50So you can have like easier access from the kitchen, which we do agree with but when I was packing this yesterday
06:57Do you know how good it is to be able to sit down? Oh, yeah and pack the fridge
07:01So now I'm thinking I don't know maybe we will swap it. Maybe we won't
07:05There we go. And I installed this switch here as well for our water pump
07:09And also if we decide we want a little bit more lighting
07:13We've got a second switch there as well, which we're thinking perhaps we might do the same LED lights that we've got in my tool
07:20Just here, but we did have all of our little mood lighting on last night and I was surprisingly light
07:26We've got lamp lamp. I love lamp
07:29Do you really love the lamp?
07:31Are you just saying it because you saw it USB powered and USB powered and olden day lighting as well. I love lamp
07:37I love lamp. It is quite bright, but probably not bright enough if you were cooking like really late at night
07:44So yeah, probably do some more lighting there. Our tiled backsplash is another thing that we are
07:50Very very happy with we found these. Oh, there you go. Actually I lied because
07:55These are not from one of the three listed places
07:58we got this from Facebook marketplace and also our return from Facebook marketplace and
08:04They were so lovely. Yeah, when we um had pretty much finished the caravan
08:08We picked up some more return for down there and we're like do you want to see the caravan?
08:14And he was like, well, that's cool. So that was my sort of confidence booster
08:18But yes, the tiles turned out really really good. Um, they imported from Italy
08:22Yeah, somehow fancy let's call him
08:31Anyway
08:38It's not even funny
08:41Anyway continuing on
08:44So, yes, we will see how the tiles go my mum pointed out that it was very visible that we didn't line up the
08:52You still can't see it. Yeah, but yeah, it doesn't line up right there
08:59Thanks to that I went a little bit mad trying to think of how we were going to cover that up so
09:05Perfect. You never know
09:08Wardrobe we have a full-size wardrobe. I've actually put magnets on the doors as well, which has been great
09:14Yeah, they work perfectly and this fits just as many clothes as myrtle does
09:20Actually, all of our storage is pretty perfect. You can fit so much
09:24It's really deceptive and we haven't even used all of our storage, which I'll get to in a second
09:29So clothes toiletries shoes all fit in here amazingly and then down here
09:35We have got all of our cooking stuff and right pantry and also our Westinghouse induction cooktop
09:42Which we spoke about last week. So basically that just
09:46Go there and that will just go there and then easy-peasy
09:51Put it on your bench or cook outside. Yeah, and also quickly my water pump I've installed down there
09:57Which has come up really nicely. We're only running cold water at the moment
10:00We're probably gonna install hot water in an ensuite shower outside. I yes
10:04so that was something that we didn't quite get to in the
10:0730 days along with a couple of other things, but you know, he's done. He's perfect. It's perfect
10:13Sorry over here we have a single bed. Sorry, this would be nice for nieces and nephews or anything like that
10:21Or if I'm in the doghouse
10:24It's not quite a full single. It's the original
10:28Sort of mattress that was here that I feel like a single bed would be here and this is sort of yeah
10:33It's definitely smaller. Yeah, but it has come up really nice with the bedding anyway, and we've also got these curtains
10:39This was a little shortcut. I guess you could say because for myrtle it was much cheaper
10:45Obviously we went to spotlight and we purchased our material and then we got mom to sew our curtains for us
10:52Whereas this time because we're on a bit of a time crunch instead of doing the loops
10:56We just bought ready-made sheer curtains and then we just cut them and then just thought and under here is where we have Jack's
11:04Pride and joy of the caravan the electrical system
11:07So we ended up putting a rattan base here as Megan said before just for
11:11To let the electrical system have a lot of ventilation and it turns out
11:16That's another thing we need to fix yeah put a hook on the door I've put the inverter
11:21Where you can see it there in the middle and it just so happens to be that the fans suck from the back of it
11:27And push the hot air straight out. So it's worked out perfectly. So here's our electrical system
11:33Amazing. So it's 400 amps of Renogy. It's all Renogy gear. We got 400 amps of lithium battery
11:393000 watt inverter 40 amp MPPT controller and a 50 amp DC DC controller
11:44That's what you use to charge from your car when you're driving
11:47We've had the air conditioner on for a very long time
11:50Most days when we've been working on him in here and it's been performing amazingly. We've been seeing 40 amps coming in
11:57We're on 40% now because we've had the air con going all day, but right now there's 30 amps coming in
12:04while I'm on camera still
12:06Quickly look here. So originally we installed the canvas and we just screwed up the canvas straight to the timber
12:12I ended up taking the whole canvas down with Megan's dad. Thank you so much Steve
12:16I wouldn't have been able to do it without you and we put these aluminium bars here
12:21So now the canvas is really tight up against the roof and there's no air pockets, you know
12:27There's no light coming through. So it's all sealed off and it's beautiful and
12:31And you got the hose on that last night as well and I yeah, I water tested it last night and it no legs
12:37So what else can I quickly show off?
12:40All the technical stuff. Do you want to talk about the aircon? Yeah, so the aircon
12:45For some reason well, I think I know why it's because we installed it correctly in this one
12:50And this vent if you put a piece of paper up against this vent when the air comes on it actually sucks it
12:56Sucks the paper up
12:57not in but it sucks it onto the vent and it that tells me that the air is circulating perfectly in the caravan and
13:04You can really tell that it cools down this caravan so well, so that's a Truma Sapphire
13:11Unit that we installed a couple videos ago. If you want to go check that out, we'll link it above
13:14So we've got three vents around the caravan circulating the air
13:18We've got the sensor for the remote here right next to the bed
13:21Perfect, and we got a USB C and a USB outlet here so we can charge our phones at night and run Megan's little
13:27mushroom lamp there
13:30Yeah, and then the heart of the whole caravan is up there on the wall the Renegie one core
13:34We've got all our inverter solar panels batteries
13:38pretty much everything Bluetooth connected to it and
13:42It just tells us everything we need to know so it's it's actually a really good little unit
13:45We built the bed so that we've got a heap of storage under it
13:48We haven't even used it, but we don't even have enough stuff to put in here
13:52but yeah, there's heaps of storage under there and
13:54Also, there's heaps of storage under the chair
13:57Which we haven't even used and there's a fire extinguisher under the chair as well
14:01because that's something you really need to have in the caravan in case of
14:06fires
14:07So this is our living slash dining area
14:10Which we got our phone from Clark rubber and thank you mum for wrapping them up for us and sewing them in
14:17She was like, I'm not happy with them, but you gave me too tight a deadline. We're like mom. Honestly, they're perfect
14:22Thank you so much. I already talked about the curtains, but I forgot to mention our roller
14:26so we have got blackout blinds on every single window as well except for that one because we've got the
14:32Flat thing at the front and I also forgot to mention when I was talking about all of the lighting
14:37We do have our under bench
14:40Lighting as well, which you can change the colors just like Myrtle
14:44We love this table, we were actually starting to stress about the dining room table guys
14:50We were like, what are we gonna do for legs? We can't afford one of those like fancy
14:55Hydraulic caravan table things. There's not much room and then Jack found a workbench
15:03From Bunnings. It's basically just a plank of wood on folding legs
15:08Like oh my gosh, it's perfect spray-paint the legs gold and put a little tabletop on it, which we stained as well
15:14We did run out of gold paint. So don't look too close because you can still see
15:18Orange under there and it looks really bad, but we'll get to that. So as you come into the bedroom area, we have also got a
15:26Toilet under here. It's a lot of toilet paper. Yeah, that was supposed to go behind but I got lazy
15:33packing so
15:34This Thetford toilet fits so perfectly and I have to tell them the story
15:39Yeah, because we... it fits like a glove. We had originally measured
15:45this slot here for an
15:48Old toilet from the Troopy days, which I don't know why we kept and it was disgusting
15:56It was four years old and we had said we're gonna replace that
16:00It's just sort of like so we know how much space we need to allow under the bed for the toilet to slide out easily
16:06but then we thought you know what, let's just try the toilet from Myrtle and
16:11It just slipped in
16:14Perfectly. It was the most satisfying thing ever
16:19That you could do on a toilet, honestly
16:22Guys just before she talks about the bedroom. There is 11 pillows in this caravan
16:2711. I need to just justify that actually because as I was looking for inspo
16:32I was looking at Airbnbs and luxury accommodations
16:35And do you know what the number one thing that they all have in common like luxury beautiful accommodations?
16:42It's cushions. So went all out with the cushions and I think it looks very fancy. Too many cushions. So
16:50Here's our bed. It's brilliant. Which can't very
16:54Sit up very well, so it is a caravan double so it's not quite as big as a double bed, but it's all good
17:00It's really really roomy in here. You don't feel claustrophobic with the wardrobe or anything like that
17:05no, and
17:06Just the light coming in is beautiful and also because we've got the white roller there like in Myrtle
17:12We do have the option to set up a projector as well, which is great
17:16There's actually a little bit of storage under this. Oh, yeah
17:19That's what I was gonna do for like books, oh maybe yeah, yeah, but then I also got this little tray here
17:26so we don't need to worry about coasters and you can have coffee in bed and
17:32That's it guys we did it it's very hot in here
17:35Incredibly hot. Well, let's jump out birds done
17:3932 days it took us
17:41Insane, I actually can't believe we did it. Hey, I'm in shock
17:46I'm in shock. Look at them. Look at the two caravans next to each other
17:50There and there Merton Bert. We need a creepy clown for Bert
17:54Yes, that is going to be our first mission because as you can probably see we have all of our stuff packed in here
18:02So we're going to take a bit on a little shakedown trip also so that we know if anything needs fixing or tweaking
18:09Before anyone else goes traveling in it
18:11So we're going to be doing that next week, but I also need to just give a little shout out to
18:17Jason and Nat
18:19Who sent us this months ago because once again
18:23they were the first to know about our crazy crazy idea to rebuild a caravan in 30 days and
18:33So guys that's it we did it we built Bert in 32 days
18:36We just want to say a massive
18:38Thank you to you guys for making this all possible
18:41If you guys don't click on the videos if you guys don't subscribe and like the videos
18:44None of this would happen a massive. Thank you to Ryobi and Caravan RV camping. They
18:50are amazing. Thank you guys for supporting us and believing in us and
18:55Making it come alive. It's insane
18:57I know and just the fact that again, we said we've got this crazy idea and they're just on board
19:03Yeah, you can do it. Even when we did not believe that we could do it. We did it
19:08So we now have two vintage caravans. What the hell do we do with them?
19:13Now we're gonna take Bert on a little getaway. We want to test it out ourselves
19:17We're gonna pass him over to the family and they're gonna get into caravaning. Hopefully. Yeah, and then be great
19:23Wait until you see what we've got planned with Mert guys
19:27It's pretty insane. So thank you all we did it. We smashed it
19:32We'll see you next week
