00:00Hello, my name is Amber Allert, and I'm a journalist specializing in education.
00:04Your child's secondary school will see them through some of the most significant years of their lives, as well as important qualifications
00:10like their GCSEs and perhaps even their A-levels.
00:14This is why it's so important that they go to a school that is the right fit for them and for your family.
00:20Parents of this year's primary school leavers will shortly find out which schools are able to offer their child a place.
00:27Here's what you need to know about Offers Day in 2025.
00:32This year, secondary school places will be announced on Monday, the 3rd of March.
00:37You'll get an email or a letter offering your child a place at a state secondary school.
00:42Last year, 83% of applicants got into their first choice school,
00:46but the school your child gets an offer from is usually at least one of the top choices you selected when you applied.
00:52This letter or email will explain what steps you need to take next.
00:56And you have a few different options at this point.
00:59Here, you can either accept it if you're happy, the letter should tell you how to do this,
01:03and there will usually be a deadline you need to accept by.
01:07Or, if you didn't get into the school that you want, you can appeal their decision or ask to go on their waiting list.
01:13If you choose to appeal, your case will go before an independent panel.
01:18Now, keep in mind, for your appeal to be successful,
01:20you usually need to be able to prove that either that school can offer your child something that other schools can't,
01:27or show that the school didn't follow admissions guidelines.
01:31If your appeal is successful, your child will be offered a place there.
01:35If not, you may still be able to go onto the wait list.
