00:08The Karnataka Milk Federation has proposed a 5 rupee per litre hike in the prices earlier.
00:14Few months ago, KMF had increased the prices by 2 rupees, added 50 ml extra milk per litre and price was at 44 rupees.
00:22If the government approves a new milk price, it's going to be 47 rupees per litre.
00:26Milk price to be hiked by 5 rupees per litre in the state of Karnataka.
00:31Going straight to Nagarjun Dwarkanath for more details on that big story.
00:36Nagar, this decision obviously speaking volumes of the fact that the government is in dire straits as far as the funding is concerned.
00:44They need more money and hence the price hike. What else can you share with us at this point in time?
00:49Sneha, the KMF, the Karnataka Milk Federation is an independent body but nevertheless it's closely interlinked with the government
00:59because the representative or the KMF chairman is usually from the government and an ex-MLA called Bhima Nayak represents the KMF as chairman today.
01:08What the proposal before the government as before the KMF is that 5 rupees hike post the budget session.
01:14That is from March 3rd, the Karnataka assembly gets on. Once the budget is passed, once the session is over, KMF is set to increase the milk prices from 5 rupees.
01:22Recently 2 rupees was increased by the KMF themselves by adding 50 ml of milk per litre and now they would remove the 50 ml and go back to the base price of 42 rupees.
01:33From there, there would be a 5 rupee increase and totally it would be rupees 47 per litre in Karnataka.
01:39Henceforth, if the government also gives a consent for this price hike, most likely it would happen is what we are told.
01:44This 5 rupee that the increase will see, 90% of that majority chunk would go back to the farmers because the KMF would procure the milk from the farmers across Karnataka
01:54and the subsidy would be given to the farmers is what we are told.
01:57But the people of Karnataka would have to take the burden of this 5 rupee per litre and they will have to shell out more money from their pockets because KMF is set to increase.
02:07But the defence that the KMF is also giving that it's comparatively lesser compared to Gujarat, Amul prices, Delhi and Andhra Pradesh, Telangana.
02:15In compared to all those federations, the Karnataka Milk Federation, milk is comparatively cheaper is what we are told and hence they are set to increase 5 rupees post the assembly session.
02:25Right. Be with us. I'm just going to come back to you in a moment from Nagarjun Dwarkanath getting us those details.
