00:00It's only February and it hasn't rained yet, but there are already more than 28,000 cases of dengue in the country according to the DOH.
00:0740% higher than the same time in 2024.
00:12That's why the LGUs have their own discards in opening the aquariums,
00:16such as collecting pesos per aquarium or kitty kitty.
00:19Oscar Oida has a report.
00:22Not fish, but mosquitoes will be included in this aquarium of Barangay Adicionil in Mandaluyong City.
00:33That's their mosquito death chamber.
00:36This is where the dead or living kitty kitty or mosquitoes will be placed to be caught by the residents.
00:43And starting on Wednesday,
00:45whoever is the resident who will be caught by the kitty kitty or mosquitoes will be given money by the barangay.
00:52Minorities are not allowed to get caught.
00:55They will just bring us living, dead, or even kitty kitty,
01:00that we will exchange for at least five pieces of mosquito in exchange of one peso.
01:05This is the way of the barangay to open the mosquitoes because of the increase of dengue cases in their area,
01:12which reached 44 in January.
01:15Two of them were infected, including 14-year-old Shantelly Tordilio.
01:21In the hospital, blood was coming out of the nose.
01:24He was sucking blood.
01:26But the Department of Health has an early warning to the residents of Barangay Adicionil.
01:31It's better if we go to our local health office, to the Department of Health.
01:35What if later it becomes like fishing?
01:38What if we have a mosquito breeding later?
01:41We don't want that.
01:42This will not be something that we will do forever.
01:44This is just an alternative to lower our cases.
01:48In Quezon City, where the dengue outbreak declared this weekend,
01:52the problem is that the cases are not being caught.
01:55Our only problem is that the doctors are not being assessed immediately.
02:02That's the story of our 10 case fatalities or deaths.
02:09It took them more than 7 days, no?
02:14More than 5 days before they were consulted and the doctor arrived.
02:19The Barangay Old Balara is thinking of bringing back the anti-mosquitoes that they used to do
02:24to get rid of mosquitoes.
02:27What they eat is fish, eggs, and mosquitoes.
02:32Has the dengue case decreased?
02:34Yes.
02:35Other LGUs are also being discarded,
02:38so that they can open the mosquitoes, like Mayang-Mayang Misting, in San Juan.
02:43Lapo-Lapo City LGU is also distributing insecticide-treated meds and larvicide
02:50to public schools and barangays.
02:54Aside from Quezon City, 8 places in Central Luzon, Calabarzon, and NCR
03:00were seen by the Department of Health when the dengue cases suddenly increased.
03:05Not during the rainy season, but the so-called shearline, IPCZ, and Easterleaf,
03:11the water flows are increasing.
03:13And when the water flows increase, it really accumulates around the area.
03:17The mosquitoes are increasing.
03:18Oscar Oida reporting for GMA Integrated News.
03:29See you soon.
