00:00Thank you for being here. First of all, thank you for having accepted my

00:24invitation. When I came to Washington I was proposing President Trump meeting

00:30between the EU and the US and I'm proud that after one month there is this

00:36initial meeting in which we can sit down and share our our points of view trying

00:44to go on. We know how important is the relation between the EU and the US for a

00:52strong West, for our civilization, also for our economic relations that worth 30% of

01:01the world exchange and so I hope that this meeting can be a new beginning let's

01:07say like that and I was also saying that there are some topics which are

01:11competence of the Commission so the role of Italy is mainly the role of

01:17trying to help a dialogue which I think is very important Frank open but knowing

01:22how important we are each for each other. One of the things that Prime Minister

01:25Maloney has offered to do and of course the president and I are excited to accept

01:30is really to be a bridge builder I think in some ways between Europe and the

01:35United States. I've said repeatedly that I think you know Europe is an important

01:40ally of the United States the individual countries within Europe are important

01:44allies in the United States but of course we have some disagreements as friends

01:47sometimes do on issues like trade and we also have many agreements and many

01:52things that we can work on together and I'm looking forward to this conversation so

01:56I appreciate Prime Minister Maloney's hospitality I appreciate Commissioner

02:00von der Leyen being here and being willing to engage in this conversation I

02:04think we'll have a great conversation and hopefully will be the beginning of

02:08some long-term trade negotiations and some long-term trade advantages between

02:14both Europe and United States. If I may look at trade indeed we have the largest

02:20trade relationship in the world with more than 1.5 trillion dollars per year very

02:28much intertwined so indeed it is important now we've exchanged papers that our

02:34experts are deep diving are discussing the details everybody knows that the

02:39devil is in the detail but what unites us is that at the end we want together to

02:44have a good deal for both sides. I would like also to raise the topic of Ukraine

02:50what unites us is that we want a just and lasting peace and I know how much you are

02:57engaged in ending this war and I thank you for that so what is important now

03:02certainly that we push that these are moving forward and I think the next week

03:08will be crucial on that and finally perhaps an important topic between us

03:13also the topic of defense and I know that the European member states have to step up

03:19the investment in defense this is why as a Commission we have enabled the use of up

03:24to 800 billion euros in the next four years for defense investment and this of

03:32course will strengthen the European Union but we know what strong Europe means

03:36always also a strong NATO so we will certainly take stock subscribe to one India
