00:00Maria was only, she was four at the time, about to turn five years old.
00:28From the very beginning, they were honest that likely we would end up needing, you know, to look for an organ donor.
00:35It was so surreal and, I mean, it was just a whirlwind that, you know, we never really grasped, you know, the reality of it until it actually happened.
00:46You know, my child is going to be able to have a second chance at life.
00:51This is all that we've been waiting for.
00:52You can't really be happy, you know, as happy as you want to be.
00:57You can't really be relieved because you know that there's another family going through such extreme grief.
01:02Because I knew that I didn't want her death to be in vain and I wanted something good to come from it.
01:10And, you know, obviously the best outcome would have been for her to wake up and her to be okay.
01:15But I wanted her to help someone else.
01:21The fact that, you know, Maria wouldn't have made it without that, just, I think, helped heal my heart a little bit.
01:27And it was just such a great feeling knowing that she was living on.
01:32Lisa actually reached out first.
01:35We received a letter from her.
01:38I didn't know what to say at the time because, you know, thank you is just such a generic statement in a situation like this.
01:47I think we just kind of said like, oh, we should meet.
01:50And then her friends and our family drove down and met us at this park near our home.
01:57And it was an amazing day.
02:01It really was.
02:02Just seeing Lisa, she's such a, you know, a beautiful, strong woman and mother.
02:09And, you know, we had gifts for each other.
02:12And it was just, it was a really nice experience.
