Feeling cooler along North Sea coasts today where there is a fresh northerly breeze. Away from here in western areas, warm sunshine around for many of us through this afternoon and evening. Later on, cloud will push in from the east into central areas, keeping temperatures mild overnight. Another fine day ahead tomorrow after the cloud clears. This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the afternoon of 16/05/2025. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Aidan McGivern.

00:00Hi there. One big difference today compared with yesterday is that I think fewer people will be affected by low cloud.
00:08There'll be a bit more sunshine across the UK, but still some low clouds talk about and it's mainly affecting the east coast of England
00:15with high pressure to the north and an east to northeasterly breeze, making it feel cool on that north sea coast
00:21and keeping the cloud onto some of these north sea counties. It will come and go at times, but yeah, that's where it's going to stay grey.
00:29Elsewhere, plenty of sunshine, certainly more sunshine to come for parts of the Midlands and the southeast compared with Thursday.
00:36And feeling very pleasant in the sunshine, 22, 23 Celsius, the top temperatures towards Wales and the southwest,
00:42and fairly widely high teens, low 20s, but on that east coast it's going to feel a lot cooler with temperatures in the low teens more likely.
00:52And then once the sun goes down, the low cloud in the east will tend to creep back inland.
00:56And it will struggle to get over the Pennines, breaking up a little, so more patchy across northwest England, southwest Scotland,
01:03into east Wales and the southwest, but certainly a fair amount of cloud appearing overnight.
01:08Under the cloudy skies, 9 or 10 Celsius, but where we do keep the clear spells, western Scotland, northern Ireland,
01:14west Wales and the southwest, more like the mid-single figures, so a cold start in places.
01:19First thing this weekend, plenty of sunshine nevertheless for northern Ireland, western Scotland, west Wales into Cornwall.
01:26The thick cloud elsewhere will give a few spots of drizzle across some of the eastern parts of the Pennines,
01:32North York Moors for example, before it then tends to retreat back to the coast,
01:36although some patches will remain I suspect, and there's a little bit of uncertainty once again about the extent to which
01:42the low cloud will return to the east coast, and as we go into the afternoon, plenty of sunny skies return
01:50widely, just some patches of cloud here and there, but otherwise it's going to be a pleasant enough afternoon.
01:57Again, 20, 21, 22 Celsius in places, but again that cool breeze coming down the North Sea
02:04to affect coastal parts of England and Scotland.
02:07Then on Saturday night, it's likely that we'll see a repeat performance, areas of low cloud in the North Sea
02:14coming inland to an uncertain extent I would say, and then on Sunday retreating back towards the east coast.
02:23But it stays dry, it stays settled throughout the weekend, and there will be plenty of sunshine away from that east coast.
02:31We keep high pressure into the start of next week, but there will be a few showers around on Monday and Tuesday
02:36before a more definitive change at the end of next week.
02:40Bye-bye.
