00:00at least they're competing the right way yeah i like your compete level yeah i'd be a little high
00:04good what's their battle meter though not a hundred say that much i well according to gora
00:09no it might be nope they have a losing record you heard the voice of rob bradford weei.com
00:15and the baseball isn't boring podcast he joins us every thursday at 11 30 we'll get back to
00:20celtics talk uh we'll mix in some thoughts on the patriots schedule as well keith and i'll go on the
00:24clock at high noon give you 60 seconds on uh the patriots their record the schedule all that good
00:29stuff plus tatum and an update to his injury timeline coming your way about 15 minutes from
00:34now rob bradford brought to you by mcfarlane energy mcfarlane to you rob the heating cooling and bio
00:40heat delivery pros that easter mass and all of cape cod depend on mcfarlaneenergy.com what'd you
00:46think of that comment from cora i was i was sorry i couldn't get past sad jamai asking the question
00:51i love sad jamai it should be a twitter account yeah i know this is a tough one sorry
00:58uh compete level yeah i mean what you know it's it is what it is for what is it four and 14 now
01:04and one one run run games that's by the way one loss more the entirety of last year when it comes to
01:10one run games dang uh and i this is the part that i did agree with breslow and is in the morning hit
01:16this morning is that you do when you have that you have to look at the reason and the cause like you
01:21can't just say it's a long season yeah okay but you have to when you have 14 of these suckers
01:27you know and you had 13 of them last year in total yeah it's alarming it's also it sounds like
01:33gerard mayo like we play a lot of close games it's like yeah you lose the ball yeah figure that out
01:37maybe don't put the spotlight on yourself so much but i i just i guess on some level it's a small
01:42sample size but it is more than a quarter of the schedule like that's that's a hard thing to just
01:46shrug away no and also you need to win games you need the you have these teams on winning streaks
01:53who are figuring it out and yeah they're still in it right now but if you keep doing this if you keep
01:58playing this middle of the road stuff and you keep saying oh i think it's going to work out then next
02:03thing you know all these other teams are going to take off and and i do think that as we sit here
02:09in mid-may like trades i've talked about this a million times trades in may almost never happen
02:14i that's why i love the louisa rise trade last year on may 4th but i mean who doesn't right
02:19but still talking about i mean like or the shay or the shay hillebrand the shay hillebrand that was
02:25the one i was yeah yeah oh really i was got it shook you to your core i love really brand yes
02:31young young kim yep oh really i remember i was at uh work i was working at a warehouse when it
02:36happened and i immediately went yeah i immediately uh called my mom she was at work i never called my mom
02:41at work and i was like mom they traded shay hillebrand she's like what don't call me at work
02:46mom what are you doing you know that shay hillebrand this number that shay hillebrand poster on my wall
02:51yeah you're gonna have to take it down when did he switch from byunghyun kim to bk kim when did he
02:56do that i think yeah that was was it yeah i mean there was a lot of mistakes he tried to go into
03:01hiding after that world series maybe yeah yeah he gave the finger to somebody i don't know he slept a
03:05lot too anyway uh the point is is that i do feel like this team is in need of some jumper cables right
03:13this team you need to sort of okay this is what you have this is what you're dealing with this is
03:18what has happened but i do feel like you you have the ability to have a jolt to this team now where do
03:26they need that jolt they need it with another arm late in the game in the bullpen absolutely and you
03:32also need it i think in the form of some one of these at least one of these guys in the minor leagues
03:37one way or the other and this leads us to well how do you do that do you make a huge trade that's a
03:43tough one it's a tough one like if you're going to get anthony up here the logical thing which i
03:49wouldn't be averse to is to say we're selling high on raffaella we're going to trade him for let's say
03:55that the aforementioned bullpen arm that's fine probably not going to happen but the other avenue
04:00is the first base thing okay we can get into devers is fine but the more realistic thing here
04:06is to take a guy in christian campbell and who is right now statistically one of the worst second
04:13baseman in the game start putting a first baseman glove on him see how that works put marcelo meyer at
04:19second base and there you go i mean this isn't like this isn't like an extreme oh my goodness i can't
04:25believe we're doing this there's a lot of sense to just trying it out and i like even just put a
04:33first base glove on him once in a while that's all i'm asking or somebody else for like i said
04:39i was drove off the road yesterday listening to cora talk to the afternoon guys when they were asking
04:44about first base ted specifically asked him about first base several times yeah but by over under four
04:49and a half times he has a lot of times i think it's a pressing issue so i don't blame him for it but
04:52like the amount of times cora responded with romey gonzalez i was like that ain't it but i think
04:58well he's coming back i'm like i don't care i mean i think that falls under you know it is what it is
05:03and he's gonna have to say what he has to say right yeah yeah yeah but when we come back from this off
05:08day i i do not understand why you wouldn't just say okay you know we have to we here's a first
05:15baseman glove and i'm gonna focus on campbell like initially yeah that's fine that's what i want
05:19initially initially i was like meyer right i'm like do it with meyer down in worcester but i do
05:24think that we've reached the point with campbell where you're saying yeah he's a little rough around
05:28the edges at second base i think he could play first base you work him out there my point though
05:34is is that you have to start this process like craig breslow comes on the radio and said we're
05:39exploring all avenues well this is the best avenue to explore because unless you're willing to make that
05:46that trade that nobody makes in may like this you're gonna be picking up the garrett coopers
05:51and the dom smiths all over again why why try meyer at first when he hasn't done it why try
05:57campbell at first when he hasn't done it and why not try devers there like what why wouldn't they
06:01if you're if it's the logic of moving those guys around and playing them somewhere else why not do
06:05that i think i think there is absolutely that i don't understand why in spring trading like you
06:10didn't throw a first baseman glove on him i've said this a million times um i don't know why if
06:15he's when he's fielding balls at third base we saw him do it before plenty of games whether it's
06:20at fenway whether it was in texas why you don't throw it do it then and we now kind of know right
06:25he marked his territory they said you're only going to be a dh they're walking on eggshells around him
06:30but i think that if you look at it now about the best solution like yes the devers thing could he
06:38function is that his future i don't know maybe but i think the best solution for the athleticism that
06:45it takes it does take some athleticism right to this is why roman anthony playing first is stupid
06:50you guys never played a field of the ground ball so if you take this guy and christian campbell
06:56who is athletic who can field up uh some ground balls put him at first that's to me that's probably
07:04the best way to do it more likely for rafael devers he plays first base or gets traded
07:08who can i say neither i mean i think more more likely that's why i'd ask the question that way
07:15rob because the most likely thing is he's just a dh but this doesn't even need to be for like this
07:18weekend or next month i just mean like the next thing that happens to devers would it be more
07:23likely that he gets dealt away or that he actually plays first base yeah i would say get dealt away
07:27yeah i think wow okay it's more likely he gets traded than picks up a glove and gets off his ass and
07:34goes to first base but no but that's ridiculous no no no no but it's two different things right
07:38so this this devers thing is let's make this very clear it's solving the first base problem
07:44and what rafael devers did in his approach right so if you're asking me the the best i already laid
07:50out the best case scenario for me like what what they should do yeah i'm with you and i i feel like
07:54they probably think along the same lines um so is is will rafael devers you're if you ask the
08:01question will he be willing to play first base or before he gets traded probably like that's that's
08:08my you ask the question do i think he's going to play first base or am i gonna get traded i said
08:13neither well no he's not playing for space right because that's the thing is like this big meeting
08:17john henry goes out there they're like oh it was a great meeting what was the the phrase uh that he
08:21said there was an honest discussion or whatever it was exchange of ideas or whatever yeah yeah good
08:25honest exchange you're like okay there's a lot of screaming is what that sounds like and then they're
08:29like all right now the owner flies back away he's gonna pay him 300 million dollars just to dh
08:33apparently what that seems again resolution my biggest my let's not get this twisted because
08:38my biggest thing with devers in in that respect is like how and i said this i wrote this how does a
08:45baseball player not say i'm going to help the team and go to that position that i can't get past i just
08:50can't and i think most baseball players feel the same way okay including his teammates i don't know
08:55about his teammates i can honestly say i don't know i've heard i haven't i wasn't on this trip
08:59they left i've heard conflicting things so i'm not going to say oh i've heard plenty of support from
09:05his teammates certainly but i've also heard though i've read those reports that said guys were in the
09:09locker room rolling their eyes guys were saying stop talking yeah and and all i know is that if i'm in
09:15that clubhouse i and we had mike lowell on the podcast and you know listen he went through this right
09:21and he said he basically said like if i'm in that position you have to have a conversation
09:25it's interesting with lowell because lowell and cora were the guys who were the guys who were
09:31massaging the the mini ramirez situation in 2008 right so they went through that they understood that
09:38of of this nonsensical way of looking at things and i'll come back to the devers thing it's yeah it's
09:43common sense your teammate goes down you say i'll do whatever is best for the team but you guys know
09:49this it's a lot of times the whole respect thing it trumps all the common sense it does like it's
09:55crazy to me i saw it with pedro i saw it with ortiz i saw it with a bunch of really good guys
10:00really good teammates really good players but sometimes in this case that's that's the case i
10:04think yeah cora's given him a little too much respect the gm has had to talk to devers the owner
10:09has had to fly cross-country so i i would i would give a little more disrespect to devers uh and have the
10:14manager talk to him personally uh but that's me rob bradford wei.com baseball isn't boring uh and a
10:20great example of baseball not being boring it has not been boring they're not very good but the
10:25the game itself the beautiful game beautiful game school last night like a soap opera sale
10:29tomorrow oh yeah sale crochet if it's sale right that's not that's not i think it's still penciled in
10:34but i think it's locked in it will be the first time in baseball history a team has faced
10:38uh the reigning cy young winners in back-to-back games how about that for baseball and what a
10:42nugget how about that holy mac wow look at that all like look at you that's a good i never get to
10:48do the random baseball player of the day i'm sorry i haven't decided yet oh you haven't i can give
10:53you a few a few a few shay hillenbrand on this shay hillenbrand you take him but yeah so by the way
10:58and also tomorrow they may be wearing different uniforms too oh they're wearing the green ones the new
11:03ones yeah those things are sweet you like those the new yeah i actually do like them they haven't
11:09officially released them but they got leaked a while ago yeah no i yeah are they gonna post those
11:13breaking news that is great no i think that tomorrow afternoon you'll see them and uh but yeah i like
11:18them i like the city yes the city connects um i think some teams try really too hard like the
11:24colorado rockies taco bell outfits not great what do you think of the diamondbacks ones yeah the snakes
11:29ones it's okay yeah i like i actually like and i had the guy on the podcast from the white socks
11:34i like theirs the jordan like the the homage the bulls ones the old bulls yeah i like those
11:39where are the uniform shows so this makes it makes sense that we would break news on this uh brad
11:43we should unveil them here we should talk to the socks we really should we really should so new
11:47different uniforms tomorrow you think scuttlebutt that's good scuttlebutt good excellent scuttlebutt
