00:00The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, welcomed Michaelis Espinosa and her family
00:13on Wednesday at the Miraflores Palace after she was rescued from kidnapping by the Trump
00:18administration.
00:23Dear Wayan people, bid farewell to former President Jose Pepe Mujica accompanying the
00:28leader's funeral procession to let Legistas leave Palace.
00:36While visiting Qatar, the President of the United States Donald Trump and the Qatari Emir
00:40confirmed the signing of several bilateral agreements to boost defence and trade ties.
00:50Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:54We begin with the news.
01:07Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro succeeded in rescuing the girl Michaelis Espinosa, kidnapped
01:12by the United States.
01:14This Wednesday, the 22nd flight of the humanitarian plan to return to the homeland arrived at the
01:19international airport of Michaelis Espinosa.
01:22Venezuelan authorities welcomed 226 migrants, among them seven children and 37 women.
01:29The first combatant, Celia Flores, together with the Minister of Interior, Justice and Peace,
01:33Diosdado Cabello, received a two-year-old girl separated from her mother by the U.S. government.
01:40For his part, Cabello reaffirmed that thanks to the struggle and wisdom of President Nicolás
01:45Maduro, this great victory was achieved.
01:55It has been a battle of wits with Nicolás Maduro and the team appointed by Jorge Rodriguez.
02:01It is a battle that we have won every day, and today we can celebrate victory as Michaelis
02:05returns to our homeland.
02:09During the reception of a new group of Venezuelan migrants, Diosdado Cabello criticized the United
02:14States for failing to comply with the list of Venezuelan nationals repatriated to their
02:18country.
02:22A list has been sent from the United States in advance.
02:27It contains the names of 226 Venezuelans, including seven children and 37 women.
02:35I am saying this because we have been constantly receiving lists that do not correspond with the
02:41passengers or the quantities or names of those arriving in Venezuela.
02:48Minister Diosdado Cabello reiterated his condemnation of the kidnapping and violation of the human
02:53rights of Venezuelan migrants in El Salvador, which he described as unjustified.
03:00Of the kidnapping of a group of Venezuelans who are in a concentration camp in El Salvador,
03:07kidnapped by the U.S. government and the government of El Salvador.
03:16In this case, the fascist government of El Salvador has them locked up in a concentration camp where
03:23they constantly violate the human rights of the Venezuelans, who have not committed a single
03:29crime in Salvadoran territory.
03:33They are held in conditions that are worse than animals, without food or care.
03:42Mike Ellis Espinoza was reunited with her family at the Miraflores Palace on Wednesday.
03:46The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, welcomed the girl's mother and grandmother to
03:50the presidential palace after she was rescued from kidnapping by the Trump administration.
03:56During the meeting, Maduro thanked Venezuelan authorities, lawyers and international organizations
04:01for their efforts in repatriating Mike Ellis.
04:16I would like to thank the lawyers, the United States civil and migrant rights movements, and
04:23Venezuela's human rights defenders for their co-ordination.
04:27I would also like to thank Yerly, Michael Lee's mother, and her grandmother, Raya Josefina,
04:34who acted legally, and prayed for a miracle, which has once again been granted, thanks to
04:41God in the first place.
04:51The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, highlighted his government's intention to
04:55repatriate the father of Mike Ellis Espinoza and the 253 Venezuelans kidnapped in prisons
05:01of El Salvador.
05:06I hope that we can also rescue Mike Ellis' father and the 253 Venezuelans in El Salvador
05:15very soon.
05:21Celia Flores, the first combatant of Venezuela, emphasized President Nicolás Maduro's determination
05:26to secure the release of the girl kidnapped by the U.S. government.
05:33We have to thank the government, and President Nicolás Maduro, for their firmness.
05:39Throughout this time, we were certain that Mike Ellis would be back, in the arms of her
05:43mother, and grandmother sooner, rather than later.
05:47We are happy and excited to see her.
05:52Duruguayan people bid farewell to former President José Pepe Mujica accompanying the leader's funeral
05:58procession to the Legislative Palace, headed by President Yaman Duorzi, and with the participation
06:04of several of his cabinet members.
06:06The procession began at 10 a.m. local time, on Wednesday, from the headquarters of the Presidency
06:12of the Republic, through emblematic streets of Montevideo and places closely linked to the
06:18political and militant life of Mujica.
06:21The body of the former head of state will be laid to rest in the hall of the lost steps
06:26of the Legislative Palace, when citizens will be able to enter to pay their respects during
06:31a 36-hour public wake.
06:33In addition, world leaders are expected to arrive in Montevideo to attend the burial.
06:38Mujica's passing has greatly impacted Uruguayan citizens with the government decreeing a three-day
06:43morning period from May 14th until Friday, May 16th.
06:54In Argentina, the community of Nauquén in the Patagonia rejected government threats to
06:59close the La Pastera museum dedicated to the figure of revolutionary leader Che Guevara.
07:04The museum is another of the cultural spaces under attack by Javier Milei's administration.
07:10According to local media, the inhabitants of the city of San Martín de los Andes in the
07:14province of Nauquén participated in several activities that included artistic exhibitions,
07:20musical presentations and gastronomic samples to showcase their unity and resistance to the
07:26government's threats.
07:33In Panama, social and trade unions' organizations continued the indefinite strike in rejection of
07:39the privatization of social security against the police repression.
07:43The T-shirts and Association of Panama denounced that in provinces such as Cocle, Colón and
07:48Chiriquí, dozens of T-shirts and construction workers were detained during the protests.
07:54In this context, the Single National Union of Construction Workers condemned the lack of commitment
07:59of President José Raúl Molina to dialogue to achieve a resolution of the conflict.
08:04Soundtracks called on the Panamanian people to participate and continue mobilized to defend
08:09their rights as enshrined in the Constitution.
08:18And now we have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on TikTok at

08:26We'll be right back, stay with us.
08:48Welcome back to From the South.
08:50On Tuesday night, the President of Bolivia, Luis Arce Catacora, declined his candidacy for
08:54the presidency of the Plurinational State ahead of the general elections of August 17.
09:00During his announcement, the Bolivian head of state asserted that he will not be a factor
09:05in the division of the popular vote and will not facilitate the implementation of a fascist
09:10right-wing project.
09:12At the same time, he referred to the extreme polarization in the electoral scenario and the
09:17need to face the neoliberal model ratifying that unity is the only way to save the state.
09:22Furthermore, Arce reaffirmed his commitment to defending the Plurinational State, sovereignty
09:28and social justice, assuring that he will continue fighting from any space to warranty the continuity
09:33of the revolutionary project.
09:42Likewise, President Luis Arce urged former President Evo Morales to withdraw his candidacy
09:46and support the candidate with the best chance of defeating the country's looters.
09:51Comrades, I propose the broadest unity of the left social organizations and the people
10:00in general in a comprehensive program to advance and unite behind the candidate with the greatest
10:05chance of defeating Bolivia's plunderers.
10:12I challenge former President Evo Morales to not insist on being a candidate for president.
10:17First, he cannot be a candidate under the Constitution.
10:22Second, the dispersion and fragmentation of the vote would only favor the right.
10:29However, I'll also call on Comrade Ander Niko Vargas and the rest of the popular and democratic
10:37forces to assume the challenge of thinking and acting in terms of unity and working tirelessly
10:42through the banal revolution as he spoke of in his proclamation in the city of Oruro.
10:51Unity should not be a juridical or bureaucratic formality.
10:59The re-articulation of the national popular bloc demands unity in action, programmatic unity
11:03and unity in action.
11:04I am ready to contribute to this effort without hesitation.
11:14Meanwhile, the former President Evo Morales responded on X account, only the people can ask me to
11:21decline candidacy.
11:23We have no personal ambitions.
11:25We will obey the people's mandate to save Bolivia once again.
11:28We will never renounce our revolutionary conscience.
11:31With the strength of the people, we will stand firm.
11:36Meanwhile, next, the President of the Bolivian Senate, Andrónico Rodríguez said, we reaffirm
11:45our commitment to true and transparent unity built with the people, not through secret
11:51pugs or agreements made behind their backs.
11:54He also said, today a radical change is necessary.
11:58Unfortunately, there have been excesses, abuse of power, corruption, imprisoned peasants, accusations
12:04and incessant attacks.
12:06He continued, the division of social organizations and the mobilizations for and against have
12:11eroded our organic, political and institutional credibility, consequently leading us to a deep
12:17economic crisis.
12:19In this context, we will maintain our consistency and political coherence by sincerely calling
12:24for unity within the national popular bloc.
12:27We will appeal mainly to our organizations and social sectors rather than to a political
12:33leadership that has lost its connections to the grassroots.
12:43The People's Republic of China and the Member States of the Community of Latin American and
12:47Caribbean States issued the Beijing Declaration after holding the Fourth Ministerial Conference
12:53of the China Select Forum.
12:54The final declaration states, we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the official functioning
13:00of the China America Forum.
13:02Over the past 10 years, both sides have upheld the principles of sovereign equality, mutual
13:08respect, openness and pluralism.
13:10The document also explains that in the context of the changing international situation, the
13:16China Latin America Forum has become one of the key platforms for deepening cooperation
13:21between China and the member states of the Latin American community.
13:25We emphasize the spirit of solidarity of the South and reaffirm our willingness to advance
13:31in a coordinated manner in the process of modernization and sustainable development in accordance with
13:37the strengths and capabilities of each country.
13:40The joint statement concludes with the following, we express our satisfaction with the positive results
13:46of this meeting.
13:47The Select Member States thank the people of the Republic of China for its efforts in organizing
13:53the conference, adding that we have decided to maintain communications on holding the new
13:58session of the Forum of China and Latin America in 2028.
14:08China left the ban it had imposed on its airlines regarding the purchase of aircraft from the US
14:14manufacturer Boeing in response to President Trump's tariffs.
14:18A restriction was lifted after China and the United States agreed on Monday to reduce tariffs
14:23on each other's products.
14:25Chinese government officials are reported to have begun communicating to the Asian country's
14:30airlines this week that they can resume purchases from Boeing.
14:34The airlines were authorized to choose their own terms and conditions for purchases of US-made
14:40aircraft.
14:41Washington will reportedly cut Levi's on Chinese products from 145% to 30%, while Beijing will
14:48reduce them from 125% to 10%.
15:00Russian President Vladimir Putin held a video conference with members of all Russia public organizations'
15:06businesses, Russia, during which he highlighted the successes of companies despite pressure
15:11from Western sanctions.
15:13During the meeting, the President indicated that the country will act in its own best interest
15:18with regard to the return of foreign companies.
15:21He also emphasized the importance of focusing on domestic companies' interests and creating
15:27joint ventures if they are unable to produce certain goods independently.
15:31Since 2022, hundreds of companies have left the Russian market due to the 21,700 sanctions,
15:38individual and sectoral, imposed on the country as a result of the military operation in Ukraine.

18:40in the strip is currently polluted as consequence of the continuous Israeli bombings.
