U.S President Donald Trump's recent Middle East tour marks a significant shift in U.S. foreign policy, as he engages with Syria's new leader, Ahmed al-Sharaa, signaling a potential thaw in relations. This move comes amid Israel's concerns over Iran's influence in Syria and its longstanding opposition to Syrian leadership. Trump's actions suggest a recalibration of alliances, with implications for regional dynamics and Israel's strategic positioning.

00:00Hello everybody. The jet fighters will be surrounding the plane in about seven minutes.
00:09I heard they threw you out of the press conference.
00:12They tried, but Caroline stopped it.
00:13Oh, Caroline saved you. You're lucky. You're lucky.
00:16You were a little out of control.
00:18How's the trip going so far?
00:19It's fascinating that you're meeting with the Syrian president.
00:21I think it's really going well. Great relationships.
00:24And now we're meeting with the group. That's fantastic.
00:28The Amir is a great guy. I know him all very well. How are you?
00:32Good. Thank you.
00:33You're going to be surrounded by eight fighters, you know, in about seven minutes.
00:39Then you say, do we need them?
00:41And when they say yes, that doesn't make me feel good, right?
00:45What's the threat? Did they tell you what the threat is?
00:48No, it's to show there's no threat. We have to assume that.
00:54How did you find the Syrian president?
00:56Right. I think very good. Young, attractive guy. Tough guy.
01:01Yeah. Strong mass. Very strong mass fighter.
01:06Does that worry you at all?
01:07He's got a real shot at holding it together.
01:10I spoke with President Erdogan, who I'm very friendly with him.
01:14He feels he's got a shot. It's a torn up country.
01:22Do you think Syria will join the Arab Emirates?
01:25Yeah, but I think they have to get themselves straightened out.
01:27I told him, I hope you're going to join with it straightened out. He said yes.
01:32But they have a lot of force to do.
01:34What about Lebanon? Do you think there's a path for Lebanon to normalize relations with him?
01:39You know, a friend of mine is the new ambassador to Lebanon.
01:43And I didn't even know, and I never knew his relationship, but he was born in Lebanon.
01:48And he said, I'd like to be the ambassador for a successful guy.
01:53And I said, you know, that's very dangerous.
01:56He said, I don't care. I love my country, and it's worth it to do.
02:00It's sort of a beautiful story. You may want to go and interview him sometime, Michelle.
02:05He's still a great guy, but he's a brute, almost a brute.
02:10But, you know, there's a danger there for a very successful man to go and do that.
02:16I said, are you sure you know what? You do it. It's like Doug taking pictures.
02:21So you got some good shots, I guess. It's a beautiful scene.
02:26The last scene at the airport, I thought, was beautiful. We rode out together.
02:33They generally don't do that. They don't generally meet presidents.
02:39There have been some reports of the Syrian president wanting a Trump Tower in Damascus.
02:44Did that come up at all?
02:46No, I haven't done it. I have to wait a little while.
02:50The thing's calmed down a little while with the, you know, the country.
02:54I think he's got the potential. He's a real leader.
02:58You know, he led a charge, and he's pretty amazing.
03:02But did you see him? Did you get to see him? No. No, he was there.
03:06You know, he was with us at the event.
03:09Did the PGA tour or live golf come up at all in your conversations with the ground friends?
03:14No. No. You mean they live? Yeah. No, I didn't. We didn't discuss.
03:19What about that Saudi intelligence agent? The 9-11 families want the Saudi intelligence agent to be extradited to the United States to face charges for 9-11.
03:30Did that come up at the conversation? No, I didn't. I know all about it, but I didn't come up.
03:35On Israel. You're not calling Israel. Has this trip sidelined Israel at all?
03:41No, no, no. This is good for Israel. Having a relationship like I have with these countries.
03:47The Middle Eastern countries, essentially all of them. I think it's very good for Israel.
03:53On Israel. On the hostage deal. Did any of your people speak with Israel about the release of the American hostage? I'm sorry, on the sanctions lifted in of CNN?
04:05He did. He did.
04:06Well, let me ask how to read out first. What credit does Israel deserve of any for that release of the hostage?
04:14Well, they've been fighting a long time. They're warring. And I think they deserve a lot of credit. I think my people deserve a lot of credit. Maybe the most credit.
04:27He wouldn't be there before us. He wouldn't be living right now. Probably none of the hostages would be living right now.
04:34They probably have 20 that are living. And we'll be getting out step by step.
04:41A lot of credit. You know, we've gotten a lot of them out.
04:45Last time, a couple of weeks ago, 10 people walked into my office, the Oval Office, and they said they had a 59 on their shirt in front.
04:59And I said, what does that represent, the number of hostages? I said, oh, that's a lot.
05:04Well, 24 are living. And now it's 20. The number is 20 are living.
05:11The poor have died. And the young people. Young people don't die. You know, young people are killed. They don't die.
05:18So the 24 living is now down to 20. And we got me down now. His family was so thankful. We did a good job with that. We'll continue to do it.
05:33What happens on Thursday if President Putin doesn't show up in Turkey for the talks with Ukraine? What will you do?
05:39Well, I don't know if he's sure enough. I know he would like me to be there. And that's a possibility. If we could end the war, I'd be thinking about that.
05:49Not tomorrow. We're all built out. You understand? That's it.
05:52But you go if he goes?
05:53I'm going to go to UAE tomorrow. And so we have a very full situation now. That doesn't mean I wouldn't do it to save a lot of lives and come back.
06:03But, yeah, I think they're thinking about something. I don't know that he would be there if I'm not there. We're going to find out.
06:10Marco's going. And Marco's been very effective.
06:14How are you feeling about how poop is he handling like this? I know you had said a few weeks ago you thought maybe how poop is he handling this.
06:20You said a few weeks ago you thought maybe he was talking a little more.
06:22I don't know. I'll let you know in a week. I'll let you know in a few days.
06:25How is the President not in Israel again? Has any of your team been in touch with Israel and you? Your team about lifting the sanctions on Syria? What's their reaction?
06:36Well, in touch. I mean, we told him we're doing it. The reason I did it, and I think it's been very popular, actually. Certainly in the Middle East it's been popular. Virtually everybody.
06:46But the reason I did it is because I spoke with President Erdogan. I get along with him very well. And I spoke to Mohammed, as you know. He's with him. And they thought it was very important to do.
06:59It gives it gives them a much better chance of survival as a country.
07:04Can you show what Netanyahu thinks about it?
07:06Well, I think what's happened is Turkey feels we should do it in other countries.
07:11Well, if you looked at my speech last night, which I saw the cause that we were at, I think the biggest applause was when I said that we're lifting these sanctions on Syria.
07:21And that's because they want to give Syria a chance to live. And it would be great. You know, it's a...
07:27Mr. President, an Emirati government backed firm did a $2 billion deal. An Emirati government backed firm did a $2 billion deal using the Trump digital voids. How did that deal come about?
07:43I don't know anything about it. I don't know anything about it. I really don't know anything about it. But I'm a big crypto fan. I will tell you. I've been that from the beginning, right from the campaign. I'm a believer in crypto. And we're not going to do what China's going to do. It's like AI. I'm a believer in AI because we have to have it. We're leading China by a lot. And in crypto, we're leading China by a lot. So I'm a big crypto fan.
08:05What do you need to know about that too? No.
08:07Senator Schumer said he wants to block your Justice Department political appointees until he gets answers about questions about the military plan.
08:15Schumer is, you know, he's become a Palestinian. There's something wrong with him. I don't know. I've known him a long time. There's something wrong with him. He's lost his confidence. Totally. There's just something wrong with him. I don't know what it is with Schumer. Yeah, if you have a question, go ahead.
08:32I've got two questions on Iran and Russia. Are you still considering secondary sanctions on Iran's oil exports?
08:42Let's see what happens over the next week. I don't really want to answer it because I want to see what happens over the next week. Go ahead.
08:48Okay. But on Iran and Russia, are you considering sanctions on Russia for supporting Iran and for the continued war in Ukraine?
08:56Well, again, I don't want to talk about it, but I'm always considering the secondary sanctions. I had the secondary sanctions on Iran and drove them into bankruptcy and there would have been no October 7th. There would have been no money for Hamas or Hezbollah or anybody else.
09:12I've always said, as you know, I put secondary sanctions on Iran again. And hopefully they're going to make the right decision because something's going to happen one way or the other. Very simple. It's going to happen one way or the other. They can't have a nuclear weapon. So we'll either do it friendly or we'll do it very unfriendly. And that will be pleasant. Thank you very much.
