We’re asking people in Wales if they think Wales would do better at Eurovision if we went as a lone entry. The UK do traditionally badly at the European song competition, so we couldn’t do much worse, could we?

00:01But, um, Eurovision gives joy to people, wouldn't you?
00:05Why not? As long as we don't win it.
00:08The land of song.
00:09Wales has an amazing history of music, stemming back centuries,
00:12and forms a part of who we are now.
00:14From Welsh male-voiced choirs to Charlotte Church,
00:17Becapita, we've got to be one of the most musical countries in the world.
00:20And for many of us, music is a part of our lives.
00:23Across Europe, 50-odd countries have been competing in Eurovision,
00:27including the United Kingdom,
00:28but despite being one of the biggest nations in Europe,
00:31we always do pretty badly performing under the Union flag.
00:34Maybe it's time that Wales had a go by ourselves
00:37and compete in Eurovision under the Red Dragon.
00:40We already do so in the youth version of the competition,
00:42and Welsh artists are on tour around the continent
00:45right in this very moment.
00:46So there could be an appeal to little old Wales
00:48on the big stage at Europe's biggest song competition.
00:51Yeah, they should.
00:53Well, it depends, though, because, obviously,
00:55I'm not sure how many countries are really in the world,
00:59but there's quite a few.
01:00The Wales have got a bit of a competition,
01:02but they can do better, and they should.
01:06I reckon we could do it.
01:08I mean, Ireland's done it themselves,
01:09and they've been able to do it successfully,
01:11so I don't see why Wales couldn't.
01:13Yeah, I mean, we are technically our own country,
01:16just connected to Britain itself.
01:18Yeah.
01:19I don't know what is the singer from Wales,
01:23but probably maybe just have good performance
01:28for competing with England, probably,
01:32because we have good talent for singing, I think so.
01:38No.
01:39Yes, we do very well with it.
01:41Sure, but do we want to?
01:44We have the Ice Dead group,
01:45we have many other wonderful cultural exposés,
01:50so why Eurovision?
01:53Our musical heritage is obviously something
01:56that would put us in good stead,
01:57but aside from competing,
01:59it's an opportunity for countries to showcase their heritage,
02:02and in particular, their native language.
02:04So maybe having a Cymraig song would be a chance
02:07to set us aside from the competition.
02:09Yeah, definitely,
02:11and if we could get some of the Welsh language involved as well,
02:15that would be really cool,
02:16like the different songs,
02:17and of course,
02:18Welsh is always known for music and the culture as well.
02:21So yeah, definitely,
02:22that will be interesting to see for sure,
02:25and well,
02:26UK has never done really well in the Eurovision
02:28as history has shown us,
02:30but yeah, that would be quite cool if that was the case.
02:32Yeah.
02:33100%,
02:34I mean, like,
02:35we're the Welsh,
02:36we're the choirs of the world,
02:37don't we?
02:38The Welsh,
02:39and nothing sends shivers down your back
02:41than that, does it?
02:43So yeah,
02:44I'm all for that,
02:45all for it.
02:46Yeah,
02:47Wales is best,
02:48Wales is best,
02:49Wales is best,
02:50Wales is best, bro.
02:51I bring more, like,
02:52loads of talent.
02:53I bring more, like,
02:54creators in Wales with music,
02:55because like,
02:56Wales ain't loud,
02:57like,
02:58big of a country,
02:59it's not very noisy.
