During a Senate Republican Leaders press briefing on Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) spoke about a recent protest at a Newark ICE facility that could lead to arrests or sanctions for House Democrats.
Transcript
00:00Give me your take on these Democrats going to this ICE facility in Newark, obviously.
00:06The members under Part 1, Section 6 have protection here to conduct oversight.
00:13But the idea that they might be arrested, they might be sanctioned, is that proper to talk about in those terms?
00:20Well, I think everybody, we're all subject to the laws of the land.
00:23And everybody has their rights under our First Amendment to express themselves.
00:29And people avail themselves of that opportunity on a daily basis in this country.
00:34But they need to do it within the confines of what's lawful.
00:37You think they went too far?
00:39Do you support President Trump's plan on prescription drugs, the executive order?
00:44Well, it's an executive order.
00:46My guess is that it'll be the subject of probably multiple lawsuits.
00:51And I think the courts will probably have something to say about it.
00:54But all I've said before, and I think there's anything new in this proposal, as in many of the other proposals the President's made.
01:01This is something he passionately believes in.
01:04It's something he's talked about for a long time.
01:05And so, you know, he's trying through executive order to make some headway on lowering the drug prices for people in this country, particularly seniors.
01:15And, again, we'll see how it plays out.
01:18But I'm quite certain that there will be lots more to say about that because I suspect that it's going to be the subject of litigation for some time.
01:25Thank you all.
