Barstool Nate is beyond frustrated after the Wizards fell all the way to No. 6 in the NBA Draft Lottery.
Transcript
00:00We can talk is the NBA lottery rigged probably,
00:03but, I mean, why are they rigging it against us?
00:06We need something for this poor Wizards team.
00:09And they have such a good young core,
00:12and Cooper Flagg was just supposed to put us over the top,
00:14and just now we have the sixth pick, and who knows, who cares?
00:18It's just more doom and gloom for our poor Wiz.
00:21Yeah, I mean, I wanted to dive deeper on that
00:22because we had John Hollinger on earlier,
00:25and of course he's going to give the more correct answer of,
00:27you know, politically correct answer to saying it's not rigged,
00:30and he obviously has had the inner working,
00:32so I understand his answer there,
00:34but you just look at all the coincidences,
00:36or, you know, quote-unquote coincidences,
00:39where Dallas does this, and then they get Cooper Flagg,
00:42and you just go all throughout history.
00:44I mean, regardless of whether it is or isn't,
00:48they don't do themselves any favors by how this thing goes on,
00:51and then 1.8% chance, and they pick first,
00:54and the Wizards had a 14% chance, and they're picking sixth.
00:58It's just absurd.
00:59If we lost a billion games over the last two years,
01:02we get con canoople.
01:04It's just like, what are we even doing at this point?
01:07Like, just blow up the NBA and start over again.
01:10I'm just, it's so frustrating.
01:12I just know how many people in D.C. love basketball
01:16and just are dying for something good to happen to this franchise,
01:20and then, you know, we do the whole tank thing
01:24and bring in the right GM and this and that
01:26and have the young core, and we're just dying to get Cooper Flagg,
01:30and they just hand it to Dallas.
01:33It's insane.
01:34That's what's so weird to me is the fact that
01:37if you're going to gift it to someone,
01:39this place is a hoop place.
01:41Like, the DMV loves hoops, and I get that it's more high school,
01:44but it's because the professional landscape has been so bad.
01:46The Wiz have had juice at various times.
01:49The Gill years, like, Wizards games had serious juice.
01:53And even the John Wall era, dude.
01:55Like, when things go right, or even, like, moderately right,
01:59like, oh, we're competing for the five seed.
02:01Hell yeah, I'm in.
02:03Like, there can be real excitement in that building.
02:07I have seen it.
02:08And I don't think it's rigged.
02:13Wake up, JP. Wake up.
02:15All right, all right, all right.
02:17But I also understand why it's so easy to think it's rigged.
02:21Like, it's just, there are so many things that happen
02:25at such an outrageous...
02:27You mean, like, Cleveland getting LeBron?
02:29Yeah, I'm sure that was coincidence.
02:33But if you're the league, wouldn't you rather the Knicks get LeBron?
02:36Like, the problem is, with conspiracy theories,
02:39you don't have to, like, really be able to hold water.
02:43You just have to point something that's interesting
02:45and then pull the thread.
02:46But even if it's not the conspiracy theories,
02:48it's the fact that the Wizards had a 50% chance
02:52after being the second-worst team in the league last year,
02:54which I was totally on board with,
02:56the way that they were going about it.
02:57They had a 50% chance of picking fifth or sixth.
03:00Like, why is that even possible?
03:02Or why is that even such a high percentage,
03:04regardless of whether you think they're gifting Cooper Flagg to Dallas or not?
03:08I hate the structure of the new lottery.
03:11I'm with you here.
03:12If you truly want to talk why they would rig it against the Wizards if they did,
03:17it would be to say,
03:18hey, look, tanking doesn't work.
03:20Like, that would be their reason.
03:22And, you know,
03:23if they go, eh, it's just the Wizards.
03:25We can screw them over.
03:26Nobody will care.
03:27But it's just so flawed because look at the teams that were there, right?
03:30The best chances were Charlotte, Utah, and Washington.
03:34And they say, well, you don't, tanking shouldn't be encouraged.
03:36And I understand the premise there, except for the fact,
03:39how were the Wizards then supposed to get a superstar
03:41in a superstar-driven league?
03:43Kevin Durant was probably the best opportunity
03:46they had to get a superstar here in free agency.
03:48He didn't want to come here.
03:49They're not trading for someone because you trade for a superstar.
03:52They only become available because they have baggage,
03:55whether they're old, whether they're injured,
03:57whether they're disgruntled.
03:58And so the best way to do it is through the draft.
04:00And then the NBA looks at you and says,
04:02screw you for trying to get a top pick.
