00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World, my name is Theo Heusenbets and today we're talking about a football club on the cusp of greatness.
00:06Now we spoke last week about Stockport County and their playoff campaign, with the club hoping to make it back-to-back promotions following an incredible return to League One under Dave Chaloner.
00:16Now the team just missed out on automatic promotion with wealthy rivals Wrexham managing to sneak in over the last few weeks of the season.
00:23Regardless of that potential success, this season good things are coming off the pitch as well as on it, with the club having been handed a massive boost, stating that a date has been put forward to decide on a potential expansion to Stadium Edgley Park.
00:37The plans were announced last year and would see 7,400 extra seats added to the stadium, which would see the capacity rise to over 18,000. Approval is needed from Stockport Council's planning committee, which is made up of 12 councillors.
00:49Now the provisional date for a decision will come over the summer, with July 3rd being talked about currently by high-ranking figures at the club.
00:56There will be council discussions on June 19th with any potential issues with the plan set to be addressed there.
01:02Now the plans would see improvements on seating added to the north stand and a completely new construction of the railway end on the east side of the stadium.
01:09With the club pushing for so much success over such a short period of time, and other clubs in Greater Manchester struggling, Stockport could be in a good position to gain a few new fans over the next few years.
01:20A new stadium, a feel-good atmosphere and a talented squad making a tilt of the championship all could have felt like pipe dreams only 10 years ago.
01:27Though the new stadium developments could feasibly be started on this summer is a massive step forward for the team and for the club.
01:32And if they manage to make it through to the play-off final, then the sky could very much be the limit.
