00:00Nani Virgie immediately bought 10 kilos of rice upon learning about the 20 pesos per kilo rice in the Kadiwa store at the Mandalu yung public market.
00:10Rice is one of the main expenses for her family. So at this price, it helps stretch their budget a bit more.
00:30Nanay Rosita was also happy because the price she used to buy at 29 pesos now dropped to 20 pesos.
00:42She said that the budget allocated for the rice will be enough for her family with more than 10 members.
01:00Starting today, the 20 pesos per kilo rice at Kadiwa Center will be available to those from vulnerable sectors, including senior citizens, persons with disabilities or PWDs, solo parents and members of the Purpose Program.
01:17At the Kadiwa store in Mandalu yung public market, shoppers quickly line up to grab the cheaper rice.
01:22And before half of the day even passed, it had already sold out.
01:26The Department of Agriculture, or DA, emphasized their plan to extend the program, which not only helps the vulnerable sector, but will benefit also others as well.
01:35As they aim to sell the affordable rice to the lower middle class or minimum wage earners who are also struggling with rising prices of primary commodities.
01:43This is also seen as a big help to those who want to save money.
01:47As this week, cheaper rice will be made available in more than 30 Kadiwa stores in various parts of the country.
01:53We will be in 32 centers and markets this week.
02:23The agency launched the program in the Visayas on May 1, but it was temporarily halted due to one order from the commission election or COMELEC to avoid any political implications.
02:34The DA also responded to the criticisms from the people that the 20 pesos rice is not on a good condition.
03:17The agency also showcased that they had been delivering 30 to 50 sacks of rice per week to Kadiwa stores when it was still being sold at 29 pesos per kilo,
03:26proving that the cheaper rice will likely be a hit with consumers too.
