00:00Bristol housing is not very affordable. I think it's very expensive. Yeah, there's a living
00:12rate housing rise, like RISM. We don't get paid more, but the housing is expensive.
00:18I think Bristol is very expensive. I have my own house. I'm that age where we've got
00:22our own house, but for young people wanting to buy a property or to rent a property is
00:27enormously expensive, I think. A major step forward in Bristol's housing future, the
00:36first planning application is in for a long-awaited regeneration site in Bedminster. The Whitehouse
00:42Street area could soon be home to around 2,000 new homes as part of a partnership between
00:49Bristol City Council and the West of England Combined Authority.
00:58I mean, it's good to have more housing. I don't think more private builds are needed. I feel
01:05like there should be more public housing being built, but I don't really think there's an
01:10aesthetic problem with them.
01:12The first proposal includes 437 new homes and 87 of those will be affordable. The plan
01:21also features open public areas, commercial units on the ground floor and space for students
01:28to live. Developers say that they're aiming for a neighbourhood that brings people together,
01:33not just another housing block. It's all part of Bristol's bigger goal to create more mixed-use,
01:41sustainable communities.
01:42I think we shouldn't just limit our new builds to brownfield spaces. I think there is a case
01:51for building out in the country, actually. I mean, I know that's quite unpopular, but
01:55I do think that, actually. The city is very overcrowded. But if you're going to be building
01:59new builds, and I don't know what you mean by that, but if you're building new builds,
02:02then we need to build the infrastructure to support the communities who live there. And
02:05I think that's one of the biggest issues when you see these huge numbers of houses being
02:09built. Unless you've got a GP practice in a school and public transport and shops, I
02:13think it's quite, you know, I don't think you're doing anybody a real favour, really.
02:18It's not just homes being planned. The regeneration will also include 12,700 square feet of space
02:27for businesses and communities' use. That's about 20 new units, designed to support local
02:34jobs, culture and services. Developers say this is a key making for the area to make it vibrant
02:41and active, not just somewhere people sleep. Yeah, yeah. I think no one's, no one's surprised
02:47that it's expensive. I think everyone finds it too expensive. It's really tricky. I don't
02:53know what else to say. Like, no, it's not affordable, but you know what you're going to do.
02:57You know what else to say.
