00:00And we kick off tonight's stories with Hall of Fame New York Yankee catcher Yogi Berra's
00:16It Ain't Over Till It's Over quote is a prescription for patience and staying poised.
00:22Hence, former Senate President Vincentes Tito Soto III is quietly thankful for this latest victory in his quest for a Senate comeback,
00:32but would rather put the celebration on hold till the poll body officially declares him and the 11 others winners this weekend.
00:39This asked Kamala Commissioner George Rivera hinted on a likely declaration of the 2025 Senate race winners this weekend.
00:46The weekend target declaration is a result of the arrival of overseas certificates of CANVAS from across the planet beginning today.
00:55Then, the COCs from the local absentee voting plus those from the remote regions and provinces in the country still to be officially counted and tallied.
01:06Comalac spokesperson John Lodianco said the poll body would release the official partial tally of votes tomorrow based on the COCs CANVAS today.
01:19Australia's Great Barrier Reef stretches 2,300 kilometers with an area of close to 345,000 square kilometers
01:27and is home to hundreds of thousands of aquatic life and coral species, forming a unique and complex marine ecosystem.
01:36But it's been hit by a phenomenon called coral bleaching that has laid waste to vast stretches of the reef.
01:44An underwater drone using AI technology is helping restore the damaged sections of the reef back to life, as VOA's Diana Mitchell reports.
01:53This underwater drone, called Hydrus, is using artificial intelligence to study coral reefs.
02:01Australia's Great Barrier Reef has been hit by a major coral bleaching event, triggered by warmer ocean waters.
02:08Now, with the help of Hydrus, marine scientists are working toward more accurate and more regular surveys to better understand the impact of climate change.
02:16Melanie Olson leads the ReefWorks program at the Australian Institute for Marine Science.
02:21Diode teams can only see so much and go so far, and that's where we've had to augment our survey methods to include the use of robotics,
02:29just to enable us to scale, to go deeper, to operate in areas where predators, like crocodiles and bull sharks and jellyfish, now routinely reside.
02:39Hydrus operates fully autonomously with a range of more than 8 kilometers over three hours.
02:43It can go as deep as 10,000 feet and captures video with a high-resolution 4K camera.
02:50The drone has forward-facing sonar and AI-powered navigation.
02:54Advanced Navigation Subsea Product Manager Peter Baker says their technology is being used to build 3D maps of the reef.
03:01We're working on coral mapping with the Australian Institute of Marine Science,
03:05and what they're trying to do is map areas of coral to detect change within those areas,
03:12which they can then use to extrapolate and model the entire reef.
03:16One of the benefits of having a robotic system is that it goes back to that same location every single time,
03:22and it takes the same photo from the same orientation every single time,
03:25which is really, really difficult to achieve with a human diver.
03:28The Great Barrier Reef has seen six localized bleaching events since 1998.
03:34Bleached coral can recover if water's cool,
03:36but if ocean temperatures remain high for longer periods, it will die.
03:41Oceanographers tie this mass bleaching event to climate change.
03:45Dina Mitchell, VOA News.
03:49Right now, let's shift focus to my colleague in PDB's Bagu City Studios
