Even masterpieces can have their flaws! Join us as we examine those annoying, poorly written, or problematic characters who somehow made it into otherwise excellent films. These characters range from racially insensitive caricatures to underdeveloped love interests and irritating comic relief that just didn't land.

00:00We work together. We got a history together. Maybe we'll work together someday. I'm the bomb.
00:04They'll tell you. I'm great. Welcome to WatchMojo, and today, we're counting down our picks for
00:09characters whose movies are too good for them. Come on, man. All right, look, look. I think
00:16everybody could use a drink right now, hmm? Number 10, Grandpa Joe, Willy Wonka and the
00:20Chocolate Factory. Is this your supper, Grandpa? Well, it's yours too, Charlie. I'm fed up with
00:26cabbage water. Supposedly unable to work, Grandpa Joe spends his days bedridden while his grandson
00:31Charlie helps support him. Yet, when Charlie has scored one of the golden tickets, Grandpa
00:36Joe gets out of bed to join him on the Chocolate Factory tour. While Grandpa getting out of bed
00:40could be seen as a miracle where an elderly man gets his youthful spirit back, this scene
00:45still leaves a bad taste in people's mouths. He's also a terrible influence on Charlie,
01:04encouraging him to try fizzy lifting drinks without Wonka's permission, which almost leads
01:09to a grisly end for both of them. We're in trouble, Charlie. I can't stop. It's pulling
01:14me in. I can't stop. I can't stop. Additionally, he almost cost Charlie the factory when he tries
01:20to convince his grandson to betray the promise made to Wonka about the everlasting gobstopper.
01:26All right, Charlie. Let's get out of here. I'll get even with him if it's the last thing
01:30I ever do. If Blackworth wants a gobstopper, he'll get one.
01:34Number 9, Leo Getz, Lethal Weapon Franchise. Come on. Hey, loosen up a little.
01:39Little bit, you guys. Come on. We're going to be together a long time.
01:41Introducing Lethal Weapon 2, Leo Getz is a federal witness placed under the protection
01:45of Riggs and Murtaugh, and he eventually becomes a recurring comic relief character in the series.
01:50He always feels the need to tag along with Riggs and Murtaugh when they work on their cases,
01:54but he never takes the hint when he's not wanted.
01:57It's okay. It's okay. I signed to wait.
01:58Shut up, Leo.
01:59Besides, I usually wait in the car.
02:00Usually. Usually.
02:02That's right. Hey, they're very adamant about that.
02:04On paper, a fast-talking wise guy character played by Joe Pesci
02:08sounds perfect for an action franchise such as Lethal Weapon.
02:12However, a little bit of Leo goes a long way.
02:15Why didn't you just say that to begin with, Roger?
02:19I love these people get around boats and water.
02:21All of a sudden, everything becomes f***ing nautical.
02:23Number 8, Donald Gennaro, Jurassic Park.
02:26We are facing a $20 million lawsuit by the family of that worker,
02:29and you're telling me that Hammond can't even bother to see me?
02:31With every scene he was in, this greedy lawyer took the wonder of Jurassic Park
02:35and put a damper on it with his financial obsessions.
02:38We'll have a coupon day or something.
02:45Gee, the lack of humility before nature that's being displayed here staggers.
02:51When the visitors of Jurassic Park first gazed upon the dinosaurs,
02:55Gennaro could only think about making money off of them.
02:57Gennaro was such a dirtbag that Hammond called him a blood-sucking lawyer,
03:02despite the fact that their attorney was the only person on his side.
03:05You're meant to come down here and defend me against these characters,
03:08and the only one I've got on my side is the blood-sucking lawyer.
03:13As bad as Dennis Nedry was, at least he had comedic charm courtesy of Wayne Knight.
03:18What do you want? What do you want? You want food?
03:20Look at me. I just fell down a hill. I'm sucking wet. I don't have any food.
03:23Gennaro was a one-note character who abandoned kids while trying to save his own skin,
03:28and the only memorable thing about him was how he went out.
03:31Number 7, Jenny Weasley, Harry Potter Franchise.
03:34Mummy, have you seen my jumper?
03:36Yes, there. It was on the cat.
03:39Hello.
03:45What did I do?
03:46Jenny, she's been talking about you all summer. A bit annoying, really.
03:50J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter books are so rich in detail and character that the filmmakers
03:55obviously had to cut a lot when adapting the source material. Unfortunately, Jenny Weasley's
04:00character was one of the casualties of this decision. In the books, Jenny Weasley was dynamic,
04:05intelligent, and witty, while in the movies, she was kind of just there.
04:09Has Ron gone to bed?
04:11Um, not yet. No.
04:14Bonnie Wright, the actress who played Jenny Weasley, has publicly expressed some disappointment
04:18about how little of the character ended up in the movies.
04:20A little disappointing because there were parts of the character that just didn't get
04:24to come through because there weren't the scenes to do that. So that made me feel like
04:29a bit anxious or just frustrated, I guess.
04:31She hoped that the Harry Potter series HBO is producing would do a better job exploring Jenny,
04:36particularly, her relationship with Harry.
04:49I can stay hidden up here, too, if you like.
04:59Number 6. Cameron Vell, Scanners.
05:01It was her. She was forcing me to what? To think about her.
05:13The protagonist of this David Cronenberg sci-fi horror, Cameron Vell was a scanner that was
05:18used by a scientist to take on other scanners, who are people with incredible psychic powers.
05:23In playing Cameron Vell, the performance from Steven Lack was, pardon the pun, a bit lacking.
05:28I need some help. You're the only one that could give it to me.
05:33Is that right? Me? Yes.
05:42Though it could be argued that it was the character's lack of personality and not the
05:47actor's skills that made Vell less interesting to watch. The fact that there appeared to be
05:51so little depth and emotion to him was distracting, especially given that this was the main character
05:57of the movie.
05:57Our father.
06:03No.
06:06You're my brother, Cameron.
06:08My kid brother.
06:11No.
06:12Fortunately, Scanners had a lot of great things going for it, including impressive special effects
06:18and a fantastic villainous performance from Michael Ironside.
06:21Number 5. Norm, There's Something About Mary.
06:24Mary! How are you?
06:27That's good. I'm glad we saw you.
06:31Come on, like you mean it, Tucker.
06:33In this comedy, Norm pretends to be a sophisticated British architect who is physically disabled,
06:39when in reality, he's just an American pizza delivery man with no disability.
06:42I'm no architect. Don't be a putz man. Who's been to San Diego Chile twice in one year?
06:51I've never even been in Jersey!
06:53Okay, okay. Just take it easy.
06:55In trying to win the affection of Mary, he manipulates her and other would-be suitors any
07:00shameless way he can. Now, many characters in Fairleigh Brothers comedies can get pretty sleazy,
07:06but there's nothing fun with Norm's sleaziness. He's just a third will whose inclusion doesn't
07:16feel necessary in this movie. Pat Healy, played by Matt Dillon, was a much more likeable scoundrel.
07:22You asked me to follow around your girl, and I did. And then the truth is, I started to like her.
07:284. Emma Frost, X- First Class
07:36First Class is considered one of the badder X-Men movies, but no thanks to the inclusion of Emma
07:41Frost. Like with Jenny Weasley, fans felt that the character wasn't fully developed and actress
07:46January Jones wasn't given enough to do with the overly objectified supervillainess.
07:52I don't know.
08:02Though not terrible, the CGI used when Frost went into diamond form didn't really help show off
08:08her menacing nature. Frost didn't return for the sequel Days of Future Past, even though it was
08:13hinted at the end of First Class that she would be joining Magneto as a henchman.
08:16Join us.
08:25Eric, I believe. Instead, her demise is mentioned unceremoniously,
08:29which is usually the sign of a character being poorly received.
08:323. Jenny Aberdeen, Gangs of New York
08:37Well, gentlemen, I leave you in the grace and favor of the Lord.
08:43In this film, Cameron Diaz plays a pickpocket who eventually becomes a love interest of Amsterdam,
08:49played by Leonardo DiCaprio. While such a character sounds potentially
08:53interesting in theory and was more distracting in practice.
09:08Meanwhile, some audiences felt that Diaz wasn't a great fit for the Scorsese period piece due to her
09:18acting and her less than convincing Irish accent. It was as if Cameron Diaz were put in the picture
09:23because they thought her star appeal would bring in a bigger box office. Compared to Oscar winners
09:29Daniel Day-Lewis and Leonardo DiCaprio, Diaz's performance was just flat.
09:38You may feel more comfortable without that garment, Miss Aberdeen.
09:44You'll have to filch me a new one, Bill.
09:462. Willie Scott, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
09:54This Missouri native accompanies Indiana Jones in this Raiders prequel where he takes on a thuggy
09:58cult in India in search of the mystical Sankara stones. Spoiled and pampered, Willie is a wet
10:04blanket with little sense of adventure. My grandpa was a magician. He spent his entire life with a
10:08rabbit in his pocket and pigeons up his sleeves. He made a lot of children happy and died. A very poor
10:13man. All she seemingly does is complain about her surroundings and she's too much of an airhead
10:17to be helpful most of the time. The movie tries to make her comic relief but she often comes off as
10:30obnoxious. Throughout the movie, Lily makes us miss Marion from the first film who was strong,
10:35brave and resourceful.

10:59Number 1. Mr. Yunyoshi Breakfast at Tiffany's
11:05Breakfast at Tiffany's is a classic Truman Capote adaptation that is also one of Audrey Hepburn's
11:12most iconic movies. However, whatever charm the film has is undoubtedly undercut by Mickey
11:18Rooney's portrayal of Holly Golightly's landlord, Mr. Yunyoshi.
11:21In playing Mr. Yunyoshi, Rooney adopted several insulting stereotypes, including putting on
11:40prosthetics and speaking in an exaggerated Japanese accent. As the years have gone by, audiences have
11:45come to criticize this racially insensitive representation by a white actor and director
11:50Blake Edwards has expressed remorse for how the character was portrayed.
11:54Have we unfairly gone after a character in this list that you like? Let us know in the comments down
11:59below. Okay, okay, okay. All I did was I laundered a half a billion dollars in drug money, okay?
