00:00I'll see you next time
00:30Clarkson going for a goal!
00:49Wonderful free kick from Clarkson!
00:53This could be real trouble for Nikoslund, he's going to go!
00:58Horace.
01:00Picks out Gaye, it's number two, and it's Papagee!
01:05Gavardin 2-0 up, Curtis still goes towards the byline, it's running out as he...
01:09Higemann's there and scores when the flag goes up!
01:13Higemann could be in here, comes back inside one way then the other!
01:17That's a wonderful finish from Hamza Higemann!
01:21Gavardin turned it home, yes they can!
01:23There's a handball, chopped off, Haji popped it through to Serial Gessers, he's in!
01:29And it's off the coast!
01:31That was the chance perhaps!
01:33Gephty has it, still inside the area!
01:35And Haji goes for it, oh and he finds it!
01:38In the final seconds of Pudodri, Rangers with 10 men have smashed the point!
01:43Welcome to Sports Scene, it was a stunning finale when these sides met last month, extraordinary
01:52that Rangers are seven home matches without a victory, Aberdeen looking to extend that
01:58to eight as they continue their quest for a third place finish.
02:01Listen, if I'm brutally honest, seven games without a win at home is nowhere near good enough,
02:06so we need to sort that. I'm the guy in charge that needs to try and sort that and the players
02:11know that today that was part of the team meeting, that we need to make sure we go and get three
02:16points against an Aberdeen team who are still going for third place.
02:19We have to like show our qualities today, like be really strong in our belief with the ball
02:26and how we compete without the ball, stay as a team all the time and bring all the effort
02:32out on the pitch. Everybody knows they need to perform.
02:34Seven home games without a win, 70 odd days until the new season starts for Rangers.
02:42The next few weeks will be huge for the Ibrox club, but can Barry Ferguson get his first win
02:50at Ibrox in the next 90 minutes as the interim head coach? Aberdeen standing their way.
02:57Julian started strongly, he'll want to finish strongly too. Build momentum before that Scottish
03:04Cup final in just a few weeks' time. Ferguson, to the surprise of some, names an unchanged
03:10Rangers side from the 1-1 Old Firm draw last weekend. Yanis Hadji has been ruled out for
03:15the remainder of the season, his contract runs out in the summer. Tom Lawrence returns
03:19from injury to take up a place on the bench. Aberdeen swap four from the 1-0 loss to St Mirren
03:26last weekend. Out go Alfie Dorrington, Antti Palaversa, Shaden Morris and Kevin Nisbet.
03:31Now replaced by Krusters Tovers at the back, Dante Polvara, Jamie McGrath in midfield, O'Day
03:36Dabag up top.
03:38Suter.
03:43Suter.
03:45charging forward to move Tavernier the space, Ecarl looking for Desters! Huge opportunity.
03:53For the Rangers number nine. But he glances and guides his header. Past the post, perfectly picked out by Tavernier, he nods it down into the ground.
04:06Dimitar Mitov could only watch on, that miss from Cyril Dessers, maybe just giving both sides the kick they need, and here come Aberdeen again, slipped over the top, Keskinen in behind, could be the chance Kelly makes the save and gathers at the second attempt, he's threatened that a few times, Toppy Keskinen and Jamie McGrath just lobbed through ball, playing the fin in.
04:36Takes it quick then, Davag up against Balogun, Dessers and Bayrami come away, Bayrami caught there by Christopher Stobers, and that will be the first booking of the match, David Dickinson producing the yellow card, Latvian defender who was just second to that ball, Bayrami coming in, and that's a nasty one on the replay.
05:06What can they find before half-time, as we approach the break, Nicholas Raskat, John Suter, James Tavernier, gets away, whips it in, and it hits Cyril Dessers.
05:22How on earth has that not gone in? A dangerous ball in from James Tavernier, perhaps Cyril Dessers wasn't expecting it to come all the way through, but that's just what it did, and instead of going in the back of the net,
05:39the Belgian striker has cleared the ball away for Aberdeen.
05:46It has not been his afternoon at all so far at Ibrox.
05:51But this could be a chance, but this could be a chance, Dessers!
06:00You can never ever rule Cyril Dessers out.
06:04He's missed a couple of golden opportunities so far.
06:13But he always just needs that next one.
06:18One touch away from the Aberdeen defender, and into the back of the net, but it's probably not going to count.
06:26He is in an offside position, the Aberdeen defender is appealing it quickly.
06:36An open and shut case there.
06:41He said you can never rule out Cyril Dessers scoring.
06:46He'd been proved wrong pretty quickly there.
06:48Cyril Dessers, the order two offside as Connor Barron plays that pass.
07:03McGrath picks up and wins the foul from Connor Barron.
07:07Just a minute ago, Rangers thought they were heading into the dressing room with a 1-0 half-time lead.
07:15But they've now got a free kick to defend in a pretty dangerous area.
07:21And Jimmy Tallinn's side works something before the break.
07:27Clarkson over the top, this could be a chance if Aberdeen get there!
07:30Dabag!
07:33But the offside flag is up, and this time it's a very quick decision from the officials.
07:39Aberdeen trying to beat the offside trap at the Rangers' defence.
07:43It looks like they've got that one spot on.
07:48O'Day Dabag, I think he's always in an offside position.
07:51His header initially saved by Liam Kelly.
07:53Quick on the follow-up, but that one won't count either.
07:56Jamie McGrath gets the ball at the edge of the box, tries to get away from Shefty and he's into the box.
08:08Cuts it low across Liam Kelly with an important foot.
08:14Devlin back in, almost dropped to Graham Schinney at the back post.
08:18Kesskanen to open his body up, well defended by Diamandé, but then Kesskanen's in behind again, off the post!
08:29Toppy Kesskanen just created a little room for himself.
08:36Got the left foot shot away, cannoning back off the post.
08:40I think Liam Kelly was expecting the shot to go across him.
08:49Jeff Day wins it from Nicky Devlin.
08:54Wins that Kigaman.
08:57Time sub, works it through for Czerny, this could be the chance!
09:01Brilliant keeping from Dimitar Mitov.
09:03Stopped that ball going past him, stopped Cyril Dessers tapping into what would have been an empty net.
09:11Brilliant ball from Hamza Igman.
09:16Rangers have no clean sheets in the last ten league games, that's the worst record in the league.
09:24Errors leading to shots is 14, errors leading to goals is 5.
09:29Also the worst in the league.
09:31But they come forward now, how can they do an attack?
09:34Czerny through the legs of Mitov!
09:38And Rangers hit the front, scything through the middle of the Aberdeen defence.
09:43And it's Václav Czerny with the goal.
09:47Poking it under the legs of Dimitar Mitov.
09:55Aberdeen's red defence parting like the Red Sea.
09:58As Czerny runs through a gaping hole between Canister and Tobers.
10:05And it's Nikola Raskan who picks him out.
10:08And Czerny with the outside of his left foot.
10:12Rolling the ball under Mitov.
10:14That slack at the back, this could be a chance.
10:27McGrath works it to Gay with the shot.
10:30Liam Kelly with a save.
10:31Kesskinen follows up Kelly behind it again.
10:34The Rangers goalkeeper urging Cam.
10:40They have been slack at the back under Barry Ferguson's reign and it almost cost them there.
10:45They have a lot of fun.
10:49Tadrini are over the top.
10:51Cam.
10:52Cut it out initially and then throwed Serial Dessis.
10:57The Rangers fans appealing for a yellow card.
11:01Just a stern telling off from David Dickinson instead.
11:04Sheffield turning his body well to work the ball to Leon Balogun.
11:19A couple who is out of contract for Rangers in the summer.
11:23The ball comes up to Czerny, Raskin on the wraparound, great touch.
11:27Can he pick out a man in the middle? There's Cyril Dessers!
11:31And this one should count.
11:35He points to Niko Raskin, giving him all the praise.
11:40It was the midfielder's touch that set up the chance.
11:45And Cyril Dessers wasn't going to miss that one.
11:4926 goals for the season now.
11:55Czerny giving too much time to spin and work the ball to Raskin.
12:00Brilliant composure from him to get the ball away from Christos Tobers.
12:06Before picking out Cyril Dessers in the middle.
12:10And Rangers afternoon gets a whole lot easier.
12:13And Barry Ferguson is on course for his first win as interim head coach at Ibrox.
12:20Tavernier is free on the right, if Rangers can work the ball to him.
12:28Stendio Mande runs into traffic and then catches the Aberdeen man.
12:32And that will be a booking.
12:34He's shifting away from one challenge, flying into another.
12:37Oh, it almost came to Papa Gueye, it does come to Polvara.
12:50And he slices it over the bar.
12:53Huge chance for Aberdeen to get back into this match.
12:57There was a couple of Aberdeen players who could have connected to that.
13:01But Václav Czerny blocks.
13:11And Rangers now have a 4-on-2.
13:13Igoman picks the wrong option.
13:16That was a chance to kill this game off.
13:23To end this dreadful run of home form as Diamande comes into the box.
13:28Raskin tries to turn.
13:30Aberdeen's slow and trying to clear.
13:32Drops to Igman!
13:34A stunning third for Rangers.
13:40Hamza Igman volleying into the bottom corner.
13:45From 25 yards.
13:49The historically bad run at home will come to an end.
13:57Seven games without a victory at Ibrox.
14:01And it will finally finish on the 11th of May as Barry Ferguson gets the one thing he wanted.
14:11A win.
14:13At his home.
14:17As Rangers interim head coach.
14:19Mitov stretching for it, couldn't do enough.
14:22And Hamza Igman gets the goal.
14:25Flipped on by Igoman at the front post.
14:35Dinger still alive!
14:37Dimitar Mitov with the save.
14:39Leon Balogin with the header.
14:43Mitov shakes his head, not happy with his defenders.
14:47We've conceded three goals in this second half.
14:53Looking for the run of Tavernier, brilliant ball.
14:55Czerny wants it in the middle, it's cut back to Igoman.
14:57Brilliant save, Mitov.
14:59The ball hits off Czerny and comes back to the Bulgarian.
15:03Sitter, Lawrence on the turn goes down under the challenge of Jamie McGrath.
15:13And that will be a booking.
15:15Lawrence seems to be in full position.
15:19Dimitar Mitov ranges as well.
15:23It is.
15:2535 yards out.
15:27Lawrence to hit.
15:29Brilliant save, Dimitar Mitov.
15:31Tom Lawrence caught all of that.
15:33It was dipping and swerving towards the top corner.
15:43The knuckleball effort from Lawrence.
15:47What a way that might have been to say goodbye to Rangers.
15:55Czerny.
15:57Goes for goal, Mitov has to save.
15:59Well, everyone expected the cross of the curled shot.
16:03Instead, Czerny thundered it towards the bottom corner.
16:06Good save, Dimitar Mitov.
16:08Good man.
16:15It's not in the corner, is it?
16:17Conor Vara.
16:23It's there for Danilo.
16:24Trying to work the shooting opportunity.
16:26Jeff Day to Czerny.
16:28And it's in.
16:30Rangers rampant at Ibrox.
16:35And it's been a long time since we've said that.
16:37Vaclav Czerny with the goal.
16:40To make it 4-0 on the day.
16:43Jeff Day taking the applause of his teammates.
16:49I think that one might have taken a deflection on the way through.
16:58Jeff Day laid it off.
16:59And in fact, it might hit the Brazilian left back.
17:03And it might not be Czerny who's added his name to the score sheet again.
17:08The deflection of Jeff Day completely wrong-footing Dimitar Mitov.
17:13He had no chance in the Aberdeen goal.
17:15It finishes at Ibrox.
17:17Rangers 4, Aberdeen 0.
17:20The long wait for a home win that is over.
17:26Just tell me how you feel about that.
17:29Relieved because seven games is far too much.
17:32There was a lot of pressure on us today.
17:35And I thought certainly in the second half we handled that.
17:39I thought the first half were a bit passive.
17:41A bit pedestrian in their play.
17:43Look, Aberdeen never threatened us.
17:46But I wanted more and I demanded more at half-time.
17:49I made a change.
17:51And we changed kind of tactically as well how we were going to approach it.
17:55And I thought the boys certainly did that in the second half.
17:59And I thought we were really convincing.
18:02Probably the only disappointing thing for me was
18:04we never scored any more goals.
18:06I think the first half we were quite good when we defend
18:11but not have so many threats.
18:13The second half we start better
18:16and create some chances after their first goal.
18:19I think the game, we start to open up ourselves.
18:24We stop doing things as a team.
18:26Sometimes you have to be smarter how we play the game.
18:29Like stay in the game and give us a chance in a transition.
18:32a corner if you don't have that day like technical-wise.
18:36But we just opened the block and chasing players individually
18:39and then the game just was theirs and ran out of our hands.
18:44So we have a journey to do as a team.
18:47And also manage the game better when it's important games.
18:53Everybody knows it's an important game today.
18:55And the way the standards performance-wise today is not good enough.
19:00And we have to just find a way to turn this around.
19:03And now another important game of Wednesday.
19:06So a comfortable win in the end for Rangers.
19:09I'm joined by a man who knows all about getting a good result here at Ibrox.
19:12Former St Johnstone and Queen's Park manager Callum Davidson.
19:16And Callum, today overall, Rangers get the goals.
19:20Aberdeen a bit of a collapse.
19:21How would you sum it up?
19:22Yeah, I think that's pretty correct.
19:24I thought first half, I thought Rangers were a bit passive in the game.
19:27I thought Aberdeen were quite comfortable in their shape.
19:29I thought they made a few changes in the second half.
19:31Rangers then opened the game up.
19:34And then once Rangers scored the first goal,
19:36I think you could see a wee bit of nerves.
19:38They hadn't won here for a while.
19:39I thought a wee bit, as I said first half, a wee bit tense.
19:42Once they got that goal, it settled them down.
19:44And then I thought they thoroughly deserved the win.
19:46Aberdeen will be disappointed.
19:48You know, after losing the first goal,
19:51they had a couple of really good chances themselves in the game.
19:53And when you come to a place like Ibrox, you need to take them.
19:56They didn't do it.
19:57And then after they lost that first goal,
19:59I think Jimmy will be really disappointed
20:01how easy it was for Rangers then to pick them off.
20:05I think Les said about the first half the better.
20:07Let's just get into the second half.
20:08And Rangers did change the shape.
20:10They proved to be the decisive factor,
20:13especially with poor Aberdeen defending, it has to be said.
20:16Yeah, I think first half they changed really quickly
20:19Rangers to a diamond.
20:20They put Bajrami in behind Cerny and Dessers.
20:23And then the second half I thought was a real positive change
20:26by the Ibrox staff.
20:27I thought they put the two strikers on.
20:29Egamani went up front with Dessers,
20:31and they played a little bit whiner.
20:33And then Cerny, who I think is one of the Rangers' best players I've seen,
20:36he played in that sort of ten role
20:38and thought Aberdeen found it really hard to pick up.
20:40You know, I think you look from the first goal,
20:42I think it was an ideal situation as a coach,
20:45as a player from Rangers.
20:46They basically, the two strikers played wide,
20:48they peeled it off, the set-house went with them,
20:50big gap opened up, and it caused Aberdeen all sorts of problems.
20:54And then, you know, so that has to be a bit of credit.
20:57My big thing, second half Rangers start to run forward,
20:59they start to play forward.
21:01You know, and these things opened up space.
21:03Aberdeen then struggled who to pick up,
21:05and then the gaps opened up.
21:07Yeah, I mean, it must have been hugely pleasing for everyone,
21:10of a Rangers persuasion with the goals coming in the second half.
21:13And some great strikes as well, you'd have to say.
21:15Yeah, definitely.
21:16The first goal was obviously that,
21:17probably won tactically.
21:18Yeah.
21:19Second goal, again, movement was really good.
21:22I think into Cerny again.
21:24Raskin, who was probably the best player on the pitch,
21:25I know Cerny was good.
21:26And then, obviously, Egamani got that great strike,
21:30but poor defence from Aberdeen.
21:32So, all in all, some really good goals from Rangers today.
21:36I think pretty much as scathing as Jimmy Tolene gets today
21:39in terms of, especially the way it went in the second half.
21:42I mean, how much did he learn from his side today, do you feel, Calum?
21:45Because they've got this massive Scottish Cup final on the horizon.
21:48Yeah, I know it's probably disappointing.
21:50Probably going home on the bus, scratching their head a little bit.
21:53He made probably three or four changes.
21:55He gave players who probably haven't played as many minutes games
21:57just to make sure they're ready.
21:59They're probably caught in that conundrum of going for third in the Scottish Cup.
22:03Looking forward to the Scottish Cup as well.
22:04But he'll be a wee bit worried, second half, how they kind of just...
22:08They didn't down toes, they just didn't get...
22:10They weren't at the races.
22:12And they didn't work as a team and work together to stop Rangers.
22:15And that'll be his biggest disappointment today.
22:18A lot of empty seats here at Ibrox today.
22:21I guess that kind of tells the story of the whole season here at Rangers.
22:25It's sort of a strange atmosphere, isn't it, Calum?
22:27Because we expect huge change at Rangers coming up,
22:30so a bit of a holding pattern.
22:32But you look at players like Batslav Czerny,
22:34and he's on loan obviously.
22:36Someone that you'd imagine whoever comes in at Rangers
22:39would want to keep a hold of.
22:40Yeah, he's a player who actually excites the supporters
22:42as well as obviously manager and coaches.
22:44He's got quality out there today.
22:46Him and Raskin, probably two best players on the pitch.
22:49That sort of wee degree of uncertainty doesn't help.
22:52And you can probably see that again with the support.
22:54The season's kind of finished for Rangers.
22:56Well, it is finished for Rangers,
22:57but it isn't for the players and the manager and the coaches.
22:59You know, they still want to win every game.
23:01So I think, you know, the sooner they get the appointment sorted
23:04and who they're going to decide,
23:05it'll better be for Rangers and their players.
23:07And just how big was it, do you feel, for Barry Fergues
23:10and everybody at Rangers?
23:11Obviously a huge uncertainty about what happens next,
23:13but this winless run at home,
23:16which you started, of course, back in February.
23:19And now I'm here.
23:20Exactly, it's funny how football works.
23:22But yeah, it was threatening to be, you know,
23:26a long winless run.
23:28Seven matches without a win comes to an end today.
23:30How big is that for everyone of a Rangers persuasion?
23:34I think we're probably releasing anything else.
23:35I think European form has been brilliant.
23:37Some of the games they've played,
23:38but their home form, you know,
23:39it's something they've probably scratched their heads as well.
23:41Wondering how to get it.
23:43And I thought today's second half,
23:44I thought they were excellent.
23:46Callan, for the moment, thank you very much indeed.
23:48A big win for the Rangers.
