00:00Okay, guys. Everything from the bottom of the red up is going to be good.
00:05Everything under the gold letters and up is going to be good.
00:07Gentlemen, you got my instructions in the back.
00:09Protect yourselves at all times. Listen to my commands.
00:11Touch them up. Back to your corner, gentlemen.
00:14Giovanni Santillan's father told us,
00:18look, no excuses, but my son was not himself through a horrible weight cover.
00:23He had to lose more than 30 pounds for that world title fight.
00:26He's got no one to blame but himself.
00:27But he said, a lesson learned.
00:30We moved away from San Diego to Menifee just down the 15 freeway to be closer to the gym
00:35because, Tim, they were driving 90 minutes to two hours back and forth
00:38three times a week from San Diego to Riverside to Spar.
00:43And you know what? That takes a toll as well.
00:46Yeah, well, you're absolutely right.
00:48Add on that, he bought his house, first house.
00:52Hey, I'm excited about that.
00:54You know, two, I just want to let everybody know a long stone isn't defined a fighter.
01:01It's how you come back from losses.
01:04That's what fighters are defined by.
01:06So moving forward with Santillan, what I want to see him is get back to boxing.
01:12Get back to using his skills.
01:14Not just rushing in their head first, just throwing punches.
01:18Get back to, hey, understanding where I want to place my shots.
01:21Get back to the science of it because you can always go back to brawl.
01:25Get back to your box.
01:27But he said, that bad weight cut.
01:30I knew I had nothing left after the fourth round.
01:32It was just my heart, me coming forward.
01:35And, Tim, we're going to have a conversation about that with Emmanuel Navarrete,
01:38our main event fighter tonight, who took three chances to make weight,
01:42having to lose .3 pounds.
01:44But those .3, Tim.
01:45Oh, it takes a lot out of you.
01:47Oh, for sure.
01:48We're going to talk about it a little bit later.
01:49Yeah, absolutely, but I understand, you know, weight cut.
01:52When I was going through, you know,
01:53through what I went through with Manny Pacquiao the first time around, you know,
01:57and I was coming back, I was 30 pounds overweight.
02:01And when I was getting ready to face Luzon Pavonikov, I had to tear down.
02:05I had eight months to lose.
02:07No, it's not eight months.
02:07Excuse me.
02:08Two months to lose 30 pounds.
02:09And it was difficult.
02:11And the week of the fight, I had to lose the actual day of the weigh-ins.
02:16It was 10 pounds I had to lose.
02:1810 pounds the day of the weigh-ins to make that weigh-ins.
02:21That big hit and teeth, how'd you lose 10?
02:24You almost had to have them pull your teeth.
02:26Man, look, I had to hire a specialist to come in and help me make that weight, man.
02:30And then what we saw was a result of that.
02:32Absolutely.
02:33You know, was that your first time down as a professional against Ruzon?
02:36You hadn't been down before, but not like that.
02:39No, I've been down before, man.
02:40Absolutely.
02:41But not like that fight.
02:43Well, I ain't never been hit that hard in my entire career.
02:45I ain't gonna lie.
02:46When he hit me, it just felt different.
02:48Felt like I got hit by a truck, man.
02:51Seriously.
02:51Heavy, heavy shots.
02:53Every time I got hit, my legs took a little stinky wound.
02:56Not gonna lie.
02:58But your heart was where it is today, man.
03:00Oh, man, look.
03:01That was a career-defining fight.
03:03It was.
03:04Absolutely.
03:05And that was a fight that the fans need to see to, again, once again, believe in me.
03:14Santiago taking his time here in round one, as is Angel Beltran.
03:17He gonna have to, because Beltran ain't here playing.
03:20You can see.
03:21He got a plan.
03:22His plan is boxing counterpunch.
03:25You know, any time.
03:25Boom.
03:27Big, big right hook on that foot by Beltran.
03:30Wow.
03:35Let's listen in to Robert Garcia in that red court.
03:40How do you feel?
03:41All right?
03:41No, okay.
03:42He doesn't hit hard.
03:46Don't just come in with that lead right.
03:47I need you to lead hook.
03:49I need you to go with the jab first.
03:51You fell short, so I need you to start behind the jab.
03:54Shoot at his chest, and then you open up the shot overhead.
03:57Enter, and then you can, once you set yourself up, you can throw that right hook.
04:07Okay.
04:07When he's moving, I need you to crouch down, change levels.
04:14The smaller you are, the better for you.
04:16Go to the chest.
04:20No, you're way faster than him.
04:21You don't have to load up.
04:22Don't load up.
04:23Put them together.
04:23All right, let's go.
04:28See, I like that.
04:29I mean, you know, you tell them exactly what he needs to do to be able to get in the inside,
04:32and I like how calm they are.
04:34They're saying, you know, it is a first round, a lot of rounds.
04:36You're a lot faster than he is.
04:38You know, use your head movement.
04:41Stay low.
04:42You know, shrink your target area.
04:43But with doing so, look, Beltran got his own plans.
04:49That uppercut that he's throwing, that's a deadly punch from the outside.
04:53He's catching Santillan as he's coming in, trying to get into midrange to be able to strike.
04:57Oh, there it is again.
04:59Getting low sets him up for that uppercut that is Angel Vetrán's bread and butter.
05:06You see the warning of referee Thomas Taylor about hooking the head of Santillan.
05:13You can see Beltran, he got a lot of bells and whistles, man.
05:16He can switch southpaw as well.
05:19Yeah, he hasn't just yet, but, you know, he can come forward.
05:22He can also fight off the back foot, as you can see here, and land shots like that.
05:27And that's making Santillan open up more.
05:30Yeah, making him reach, too.
05:33And definitely, it can definitely change the psychology of Santillan.
05:36Santillan's trying to box, but again, he starts getting hit.
05:39He want to get some get back, and he's going to want to fight him.
05:42And that's what Beltran wants.
05:44He wants him to fight him, because the more you open up, good shot, right, Santillan.
05:48Straight left hand, right down the middle.
05:50The more you open up.
05:52Watch the feet, gentlemen, watch the feet.
05:54One trip, southpaw, orthodox fighters.
05:56That happens, too.
05:57That happens, too.
05:58Not just headbutts, right, Timmy?
05:59Yeah, not just headbutts.
06:02Also, the front foot.
06:04You know, you tend to step on each other's front lead foot.
06:09Good angles here from Beltran.
06:14Beltran's using a lot of the movement of Santillan.
06:18Santillan's trying to close distance.
06:19And Santillan said, I don't feel any punching power.
06:24So he's willing to run red lights to be able to get some offense off.
06:29He's willing to take some shots.
06:31Ooh, big shot downstairs from Santillan.
06:34Now you see the bloody nose from Santillan here in the second round.
06:41So early on, having to deal with a slight level of adversity.
06:46The local fighter.
06:47That's just the carelessness of, again, not respecting the power of his opposition.
06:51Just walking through it.
06:52That was nice.
06:52Just to get his offense in.
06:53You've got to stay disciplined.
06:55I don't care if you ain't got no punching power.
06:57You've still got to stay on your feet and cues.
06:59Because eventually, little by little, accumulation effect.
07:04You've taken the shot cleanly now.
07:06But you get to six and seven.
07:08And then, boom, you get with that same shot.
07:11And it feels different.
07:12Go.
07:18Good body work.
07:19That body work right there is going to pay some good dividends.
07:21It's already starting to take the fight out of Beltran.
07:24And I know it's early.
07:25However, it just looks like Beltran does not like it downstairs.
07:28Good.
07:29Black right hand from Beltran.
07:32Listen for that belt, gentlemen.
07:33Give and take here.
07:35In the first six minutes of action, this is a scheduled 10-round fight in San Diego, California.
07:41RGBA being represented as his snack by Raymond Murataya.
07:45The IBF's number four contender.
07:47Number one in the WBO.
07:48And when you look at this young man, Tim, 23rd professional fight, 101 professional rounds.
07:56That's right in your sweet spot for when a fighter should be fighting for a world title.
08:00100 rounds, that is the sweet spot.
08:01I'm telling you.
08:02He should have enough experience to be able to take care of business tonight.
08:06However, it's his first time going 12 rounds against a vicious opposition in Abdelayev.
08:12So, I mean, look, we're going to see.
08:15We're going to see what happens tonight, man.
08:17But if I had to choose, Murataya, I think he's going to get it.
08:21He could be hot and cold.
08:22That Jeremiah Nakatila was impressive.
08:24Diego Torres as well.
08:25Great.
08:26So, Sinani, Endogini, Tevin Farmer.
08:29That was – he's tough on anybody.
08:31Yeah.
08:32That was not good for the eyes.
08:34Jesus Perez, he came back and he said, you know what?
08:36You have a guy who comes to fight.
08:38This is what you get.
08:39And tonight, we have a guy that comes to fight.
08:41Exactly.
08:42And so, we're going to see what we're going to get.
08:45But, look, making that 135-pound limit is difficult for him.
08:49And he's told us.
08:50He said it's never easy.
08:52So, hopefully, the weight cut didn't take a lot out of him.
08:55Okay.
08:56Now, the action's starting to heat up here in round number three.
08:59Continuing off of a good round number two.
09:02And Angel Beltran, he got started in the sport of boxing at age 11.
09:07His mom said, you're a troublemaker.
09:08I don't like that.
09:09But, more importantly, you're a little chubby.
09:11So, let's take you to the gym and take care of both your issues.
09:15Look, man.
09:16I probably need to get back in the gym, right?
09:17It works, definitely.
09:19You know, it always seems like Santayon, right, is world class.
09:24You know, he's been at the highest level, right?
09:26Rated top ten, I'm sure, in the welterweight division.
09:29But, why does it always seem like he's in a dogfight every time he fights?
09:34I think the only fight was Rocha where he dominated.
09:37It was a fight going back and forth, but he dominated.
09:39He looked impressive.
09:40But, man, right now it's just like slow-footed, moving forward, getting hit with shots he shouldn't be getting hit with.
09:47But, you know, I'm wondering if he's starting to slow down because of the age.
09:51Well, he's 33 years old.
09:5333 years old.
09:53It's slowing him down now to be, you know, the nose.
09:57Because it's not only a nose, but it's starting to get very swollen.
10:01And that's a situation that Santayon's having to deal with since early on in round number two.
10:06And it's because Beltran, he throws straight shots that come with power.
10:10And that uppercut, that's the one that hurts.
10:13That he throwing uppercuts.
10:14That's what he throwing.
10:17He's like, okay, you want to come forward and you want to lean forward?
10:19No doubt.
10:20But he got it.
10:22Santayon's making him pay to that body, that long frame he has.
10:26You see that redness right there down the center of the body of Beltran.
10:29Santayon getting introduced to Beltran's best friend, the right uppercut here.
10:36And the right hand.
10:38That's a nice jab.
10:39Two from Beltran.
10:40One, two from Santayon.
10:42The two misses.
10:43But that jab is really working for Santayon.
10:46As Robert Garcia said, get behind that stick.
10:48It changes the pipe.
10:49Absolutely.
10:50Total jabs.
10:51Eight landed for Beltran.
10:52Seven for Santayon.
10:53Most of them here in round number three.
10:56Every time a fighter gets hit with a jab, he has to automatically reset.
11:03And if he doesn't reset his feet, he's got to reset his mouth.
11:06You know, so it's always good to shoot that jab.
11:09And once you land that jab, that's the perfect opportunity to come behind with some power shots.
11:14A lot of times I see single jabs being landed, but I don't see any follow-ups.
11:19Santayon, if he's landing that jab, follow up with some offense.
11:22Add on to that assault.
11:26Uncle Beltran, he says, I'm a technical fighter who admires Salvador Sanchez.
11:31Tell me that Santayon doesn't have a likeness to Salvador Sanchez.
11:34There's a bigger version.
11:37I don't know about all that.
11:38I don't think so.
11:39I'm looking at his face.
11:41I'm not talking about boxing style.
11:42Sanchez is one of the greatest fighters in Mexico.
11:45Hell no.
11:46And Salvador had that hair, my boy.
11:47He had that little fro.
11:49But just the nose, the nose, the nose, right?
11:51Yeah.
11:53Take a breath.
11:56Don't bite him so high.
12:04I need you to shrink yourself.
12:07Be smaller.
12:07And go on the inside.
12:09Don't go from long range.
12:10All right?
12:10Because if you get up, then he has to adapt to you.
12:13I need you to move your waist.
12:15Make yourself small and go down the middle.
12:17Just don't throw one shot at a time.
12:22And I need you to throw three combinations.
12:25One, two, one.
12:26Two, three punches at a time.
12:32Okay?
12:33Score.
12:36Get inside.
12:37You ain't lying on that.
12:45He does.
12:46I just pulled up a picture.
12:47I don't know.
12:48I just.
12:49I never.
12:50He does.
12:51Put a fro on him.
12:52He's good.
12:52Put a fro on Santillán.
12:54You got Salvador Sanchez real.
12:57And we got his Halloween costume.
12:58All right.
12:59These are the punches landed per round.
13:00Beltran outlanded Santillán in that third round.
13:04His best round so far in there.
13:05Even at 40 punches landed through three rounds.
13:13See if Santillán can create some sort of separation between the two.
13:17Right now, it's really competitive.
13:19It's going back and forth.
13:20Each guy's having a moment.
13:21Let's see who's able to create that separation to win a couple of consecutive rounds.
13:27Back to back.
13:28Not back and forth.
13:29Well, you won this round.
13:30I won that round.
13:31No.
13:32Consecutive rounds.
13:35Look.
13:36The reason that Santillán's having some trouble, too, is Beltran has a three-inch reach advantage
13:40at 71 and a half inches of length.
13:43So he's making Santillán work.
13:45And he knows how to use it.
13:47Yes.
13:47He knows how to use it as well.
13:49And that's the thing.
13:50And he's throwing the right punches.
13:51Being the taller of the two, he's throwing that uppercut.
13:55Every now and then, he'll come around with the left hook as well.
13:57And that right hand straight down the middle is Santillán.
13:59Again, tries to close the gap on him.
14:05And I'm glad you looked up that picture of Sal Sanchez.
14:07You're not trusting me.
14:08I told you.
14:09Yeah.
14:09You were absolutely right, man.
14:11He do got his Halloween costume.
14:13Oh, that uppercut is killing him, man.
14:18Look, to block an uppercut, all he has to do is take that backhand, right?
14:22To block that right hand uppercut.
14:24Take that backhand and put it underneath his chin.
14:26That's it.
14:27Almost like cupping, cupping that uppercut.
14:30That's all he has to do.
14:31And he'll be able to avoid that shot.
14:35Nice left hook there from Santillán.
14:39Santillán now applying more and more pressure.
14:42He's starting to feel the energy of Beltran.
14:44A little head clashing on the inside as well.
14:45You can't get back here, all right?
14:47Let's go.
14:54Nice jab there from Beltran.
14:56Catch a Santillán trying to come in.
14:58And that straight right hand to a messed up nose.
15:00That's cold-blooded.
15:01Santillán.
15:02Santillán moved his head and then moved his hands at the same time.
15:06That's a bad habit for a lot of fighters, man.
15:09We'll move our head and we'll move our hands out of the way to a different side
15:12and leave an opening.
15:13And right there, Beltran just making him pay for that.
15:17Nice combination from Beltran.
15:19Trying to spin Santillán as well.
15:22Your hand's supposed to move where your head goes, right?
15:27Peek-a-boo?
15:29Oh, my goodness.
15:32Hey, and every fighter does it, man.
15:34Every single fighter.
15:36Now the opponent capitalizes, in this case, Beltran.
15:40Well, it's going to be about it, Beltran, if he's conditioned enough.
15:43And those body shots don't accumulate over time on the back end of this fight.
15:51Zawur Abdullayev is in the house here at the Pechanga Arena.
15:56This young man, 31 years old.
15:59His only loss was by stoppage in his first world title opportunity against Devin Haney.
16:05And he's got 53 more rounds of experience than his opponent, Raymond Murataya.
16:11He feels more mature.
16:13He feels that he's in a better place in his career.
16:15He says, don't define me by that Devin Haney loss.
16:19Look at who I am today and how I have improved.
16:23And that's where you will see the real version of me.
16:26So let's get to know who Zawur Abdullayev is.
16:30He lives in Didmikin, Russia.
16:34Originally from Dagestan.
16:35He's the IBF number two lightweight contender.
16:37And he's been undefeated with five knockouts and nine wins since that Devin Haney loss.
16:43This is his second fight in the U.S.
16:45Both of them have been world title shots now, Tim.
16:47So your expectations are what we should look out for from Abdullayev.
16:51Well, he's a guy that's going to be applying pressure all night.
16:54Comes behind that high guard.
16:57You know, adds a little bit of technical ability, no doubt about it.
17:00He's just not in there throwing caution to the wind.
17:02He tries to set up his punches.
17:03He is physically strong.
17:05And he has been able to produce knockouts late.
17:08Wearing down guys and getting them in the 12th round.
17:10So, look, it's no easy task, especially at this level.
17:14Style for style.
17:16Look, again, Morataya has the better style, I would say.
17:19He can move on angles.
17:20He can counterpunch effectively.
17:22However, he's going to have to earn it tonight because, look, Abdullayev, he's here to win.
17:27Yep, Abdullayev has two knockout wins in the 12th round.
17:32So that's something that not everybody can do is carry that power late.
17:36And that means that even if you're winning the fight, you've got to be ready to fight 36 full minutes to come away with the world title.
17:47One of those two men will be a champion for the first time fighting for the IBF interim world title as everyone awaits the decision of Vasily Lomachenko on his future.
17:57Man, it is about time Santayana is going with that loop in the left hand because Beltran continues to move to his left, move to his right, move to his right, towards the left hand.
18:08And Santayana finally closed off that exit, forcing him to the left, to the weak side.
18:14And now you see the difference in doing so.
18:18Santayana, this is a better round for him.
18:21Better start to this round, yeah?
18:22Yeah, Beltran had good success in the third and fourth round, close rounds nonetheless.
18:27But now you see that left from Santayana opening up the right hook for him as well.
18:33There it is.
18:35Now he goes downstairs, a warning from Thomas Taylor, the third man in the ring, and this brawl gets the crowd excited.
18:41Good defensive responsibility from Beltran on the way out there.
18:53Nice right uppercut from Beltran.
18:54That's been there for him all night.
18:56All night long.
18:56About time Santayana started to use some angles.
19:06He's running right into the right hand now of Beltran.
19:09I mean, I don't understand why he's not going towards the weak side, which is the left hand, to get around him, to make him turn and pick up his feet.
19:18Santayana, the problem with Santayana is he likes to stay on the 50-50.
19:22He likes to fight toe-to-toe, and it's like, dude, you're a southpaw.
19:26Use the southpaw angles, bro.
19:27Like, get around to the weak side, you know?
19:30Make this guy pick up his feet, and when he pick up his feet, then turn him like he just got.
19:35Like he just got did right here from Beltran.
19:37He just got clipped with a nice right uppercut from Beltran as well.
19:40Yeah, Beltran using them angles.
19:43His Beltran cut, oh, that was blood from Santayana's nose that he had on his face for a moment.
19:49Look at them angles he's using.
19:52This is another close round, Tim.
19:56Man.
20:01This was a good round for you.
20:03You worked well.
20:04You worked well on the inside by any more combinations, not just one punch at a time.
20:09Look for a combination.
20:10We're not looking for a knockout.
20:12We want you to look good when convincing them.
20:15In and out.
20:18Combine three punches.
20:20Get into a rhythm.
20:22Step to your left, and then counter him.
20:24But not with just one hard shot.
20:26Throw me a quick combination.
20:29Here we go.
20:29The distance is good.
20:30We're good.
20:31You have good conditions.
20:33Exactly, but you have to do it right.
20:34Don't make mistakes.
20:36Okay?
20:37Well, good boxing, Neil.
20:38Yeah, do it with good boxing.
20:39Don't look for the power, Neil.
20:40The power will come.
20:40You're stronger than him.
20:42No need for that.
20:43No need for that.
20:44Don't look for hard punches.
20:47You keep throwing that.
20:48Come way outside.
20:49No, no, no.
20:50Step in with the jab.
20:51Step in with the jab.
20:52All right, jab.
20:53One, two, one.
20:54Number six.
20:56I was confused listening in to that corner.
20:58I was like, huh?
20:59What y'all saying?
21:00Hey, love him to death, man.
21:04You know, I mean, but dang, that was a lot of information.
21:08All right.
21:08Give me some more information.
21:10Santianta did five more punches than Beltran threw.
21:15Five rounds.
21:15A good recovery round for the local fighter from San Diego, California,
21:20here in the fifth round.
21:21We start the second half of this fight, which is scheduled for 10.
21:25The International Boxing Hall of Famer, Timothy Bradley,
21:27and yours truly, Bernardo Osuna.
21:30What do I notice from Santianta is that the reflexes are not the same anymore.
21:35I remember when he was younger, I mean, he had faster reflexes,
21:39faster reactions.
21:40It's not the same.
21:42You know, that has to do a lot to do with age.
21:47How about getting stopped?
21:48Does that?
21:48That, too.
21:49That, too.
21:50And, again, it's just the sport itself.
21:52All those long training camps, blowing up, ballooning up, up and down in weight.
21:55That starts to kill you.
21:56Takes a toll on your body.
21:58That's what I'm seeing from Santianta right now.
22:00I mean, look, he might win tonight, but to be honest, that's what I see.
22:07Not the same fighter as he was a year and a half ago or two years ago.
22:11Not the same guy who blew out Alexis Rocha.
22:14Oh, absolutely not.
22:14And everyone said, this guy's destined to be a world champion.
22:16Absolutely.
22:17Not the same guy.
22:18Oh, that's a nice counter left from Santianta after a lazy jab from Beltran.
22:25I love the way Santianta's placing these shots.
22:29Downstairs, upstairs, this round.
22:32Again, he's starting to mount him attack.
22:35He's starting to build on his offense.
22:37He's making Beltran miss with punches now.
22:41Throwing combinations.
22:42He's listening to his corner.
22:43Oh, big shot.
22:48Great combination.
22:50And now it looks like Beltran has been shook.
22:53And that's a nice left hook from Santianti says, Timmy, how about this?
22:58Look at these reflexes.
23:00Look at this explosiveness, right?
23:02Yeah, I like what I'm seeing this round.
23:09That's what I'm talking about, the separation between the two talents.
23:13That's what we want to see.
23:15Can you dominate a round?
23:17This round right here, I feel Santianta starting to dominate.
23:20Can he close strong?
23:22Let's see.
23:29Beltran, on the other hand, it seems like he's taking this round off.
23:32He's expensed a lot of energy these six rounds.
23:37You know, Timmy, you talked about making weight, how it drains you.
23:40And Mando and Navarrete, our main event fighter,
23:42we had to step on the scale yesterday several times as the action heats up here in round six.
23:48Finally, he was able to make the weight after several attempts,
23:53130 on the diet for Navarrete.
23:55And he says, look, I've had trouble before, but never as draining as this time.
24:02130.4!
24:05130.4!
24:07It was one of the most difficult episodes in my career.
24:14I've never battled so much.
24:17There were some complications with the basketball and the time there.
24:22I had to change the plan of work that we normally do.
24:27There was a space where we thought we'd be able to go to the cabellera,
24:31but we were able to save it.
24:34I'm not a player of 20 years old, I have 30 years old.
24:37And I'm trying to assimilate the basketball team with new experiences.
24:43This was a small piece that we could solve.
24:47The fight with Charly Suarez is going to be the most prudent part to take the decision.
24:54If the body is not able to recover it 100%, I think we should have to play with vision.
25:01It started at 130.4, 130.3, 130.1.
25:07Finally, just like Angela Bassett, the commissioner said, exhale.
25:12He was waiting to exhale.
25:13That is some...
25:14The air was bologna.
25:19Dude, come on, bro.
25:21Stop.
25:21Nah.
25:23That doesn't work.
25:25Well, it worked for Navarrete.
25:26Nah, that don't work, bro.
25:28And now Beltran with a nice right hook,
25:31and he's taking the fight to Santillán after a great round for the local fighter.
25:35Yeah, exactly.
25:36He felt the momentum going away, and he said, no, I got to get the momentum back.
25:40So they're sending him out at Santillán.
25:42Stop, stop.
25:42No puns.
25:44Take advantage of that mental, right?
25:46Santillán feeling he's being the boss.
25:48No.
25:48No.
25:49You're not being the boss.
25:51I am.
25:52I'll let you be the boss.
25:53Now take these.
25:55Santillán's been dealing with that nose injury.
25:58Since round two, that hasn't stopped bleeding.
26:02Even though Al Gammus is doing a good job in that corner.
26:05What's up, man?
26:07That nose bent over.
26:08He bent over before he got in.
26:10That nose.
26:10Like yours?
26:11No work.
26:12Nah, he...
26:13I don't think...
26:14I think he got a car.
26:15Yeah.
26:15Maybe no longer now.
26:16It's probably smashed.
26:17But, boy...
26:19Look.
26:22See, a lot of people think that fighters get damaged the nights of fights.
26:26The fighters get damaged with all the gym work, all the gym wards, all the activity inside the gym.
26:33We do more sparring than the actual fighting.
26:35And, Tim, you're talking about Santillán working at an RGPA?
26:38Yes.
26:39That's brutal sparring.
26:39It's brutal sparring, man.
26:41It's not always good to have hard sparring all the time.
26:44It really isn't.
26:46Need some light work here and there for sure.
26:48And the amount of sparring you're doing, especially at his age, is extremely important.
26:53You want to do less.
26:54You don't want to do more.
26:58Pull your arm up.
27:00Right up.
27:00No punch.
27:00No punch.
27:01Straight back.
27:02Go.
27:02Yeah, the indication for me when I knew that it was different, 33, 32 years old, was I'm
27:18sparring 122-pounders, and it hurts when I get hit on the chin.
27:23And I'm saying, this is different.
27:25This is 122-pounder.
27:26He hit me up way 160.
27:27It wasn't Magdaleno, was it?
27:31Magdaleno damn near took one of my ribs with him.
27:36Magdaleno killed me with a rib shot.
27:37He said, like, Chris Rock, how much will order ribs?
27:40How about one rib?
27:41Oh, my goodness, man.
27:42He took a man.
27:43He hit me with a bolo left hand.
27:45That was one of his favorite punches.
27:48Almost took my rib with him, man.
27:49I was like, oh, my gosh.
27:51I had to stop.
27:52I was like, man, look.
27:54I got a fight coming up, man.
27:55You ain't supposed to be doing this, man.
27:57Yeah, you ain't supposed to be doing this to me, bro.
28:02Shoot.
28:02But, yeah.
28:03Listen for that bell, guys.
28:05Long lead right.
28:06That might be enough to just take the round at the end.
28:10Hello.
28:13Listen to me, Gil.
28:14Look, check this out.
28:15We got three rounds to go, okay?
28:16Look.
28:18This round, I don't know why you gave it away.
28:20I need you to wake up.
28:21Wake up and fucking do what you did the round before.
28:24In and out, combinations, landing beautiful punches, okay?
28:28This round, you kind of gave it away.
28:30You kind of...
28:30Oh.
28:33Okay, you got to keep moving outside.
28:36You need this three rounds.
28:37I don't want you to just blow it this next three rounds.
28:39It's smart.
28:40Boom, boom, boom.
28:40Combinaciones.
28:41Móvete para los lados.
28:42Pero tírale.
28:43Lo haces fallar, pero no le pegas.
28:45No le pegas, pero pégale, contéstale.
28:48Y no buses fuerte ya.
28:49Busca...
28:49No, pón la derecha.
28:50I got to be careful.
28:50Busca rapidez no más.
28:51Entonces, por eso, three rounds.
28:53Don't blow to this three rounds.
28:54All right?
28:56Let's go.
28:56Combinations.
28:57In and out.
28:57In and out.
28:58Don't risk him, Gil.
28:59All right?
28:59Let's go.
29:01Three rounds.
29:02Hands up.
29:02Look, they tell him to let those dominations go.
29:08He gave up that last round, and I think that might have been the round he took off.
29:11So, I'm expecting Santillán to come on strong in this next round.
29:16Because now Beltrán feels like, hey, I'm in this fight.
29:20I'm still here.
29:22He took off round six.
29:25Santillán took off round seven.
29:26Yes.
29:27Who has nine minutes of action left inside of him?
29:30That's a nice right hook from Santillán.
29:32What a right hand, too.
29:34From Beltrán.
29:35Right hand in the step to his left.
29:39Then again.
29:40Take that.
29:41That's a right hook.
29:42Santillán.
29:47Santillán's on the left hook of his own.
29:49That opens up the left hook for Santillán.
29:51Slaping shot.
29:57Nice right hand once again from Beltrán in that corner.
30:00That knows Tim.
30:02It's going to start.
30:04He's going to have to start asking some questions of himself here.
30:06Down the stretch, Santillán.
30:09Oh.
30:10That's a good left hook from Santillán.
30:12That's how you answer.
30:13Another thing that was indicated was because I started going to the hospital after fights.
30:19Towards the back end of my career, I was like, man, I'm going to the hospital too often.
30:23You know, one of the probably the most main reason why I retired was because I didn't want my face to get hit no more.
30:30I said, man, I'm sick.
30:31Save it for TB?
30:32Yeah.
30:33Yeah, exactly.
30:34One, two.
30:35But Santillán's face is going to be hurting.
30:37Yeah.
30:37As you age, it takes longer to recover as you age with the training and also when you're getting bruised up like this.
30:49We've seen it with certain fighters who all of a sudden as they age, Valdez.
30:53Valdez.
30:53He gets tapped and all of a sudden he starts to swell.
30:56You know, it's just natural.
30:58Nice lead right hook from Santillán.
31:01Yeah, the biggest mistake right there is that Beltran's along the ropes and he's squared up.
31:07Can't be squared up along the ropes.
31:09You make yourself a large target.
31:12And Beltran just momentarily just out of position, not set the punch.
31:17Santillán taking advantage of it.
31:19Oh, that right hook landed for Santillán.
31:22He's walking Beltran into some shots here in the eighth round.
31:26And Beltran, you better be careful, Beltran.
31:28They're still letting those hands go out at distance, trying to catch him as he's coming in.
31:32Look at those short uppercuts on the inside.
31:33Welcome Beltran.
31:34Right hand getting around on the angle.
31:37Shoot.
31:37Look, that's what Santillán's supposed to be doing.
31:40Combinations of getting off on angles.
31:43You ever fought with a broken nose?
31:45Stop, stop, stop, stop.
31:47They couldn't break.
31:48My nose is broke born.
31:49I told you I'm going to fight.
31:50My nose is flat.
31:53Yeah, I see it.
31:54Flat, flat like a teacher boot.
31:56Just like a teacher boot.
31:57Flat.
31:57Oh, nice left hand from Santillán.
31:59And another one.
32:01Flat like the wall.
32:05Squish mellow for a nose over there.
32:07Look in front of the bell, gentlemen.
32:10Squish mellow.
32:11Go, go, go.
32:12Go, go, go.
32:14Go, go, go, go, go.
32:16The champ is here.
32:17Emanuel, El Vaquero Navarrete is in the house to make the fourth defense of his junior lightweight title.
32:26And look, Tim, he looks good right now.
32:29But the question will be answered inside the ring.
32:32How was his recovery from that brutal weight cut?
32:36Absolutely.
32:37Look, when you're not fighting, you're not doing anything physical, oh, you feel great.
32:40Oh, I'm back.
32:41I'm back.
32:42But once you get in there and you start getting hit, you start moving around, and then things don't feel right, then we'll know.
32:48So, look, it's going to take about four rounds for it to set in if anything is going to go wrong.
32:53Four rounds.
32:54Is it the legs?
32:55Is it your punch resistance?
32:56It's all the above.
32:57Legs, you know, short, again, your breath, like, as far as, like, elevated heart rate for sure.
33:04You know, you don't sweat as much like you should.
33:08Fatigue sets in.
33:10Punch your arm weary, you know.
33:14He trains at altitude.
33:15Does that help him?
33:17That's the reason why he got those lungs.
33:19If he trains at altitude, absolutely.
33:21Definitely helps him.
33:22He trains above Mexico City.
33:25That's where his town is.
33:26Yeah, okay.
33:27That makes a lot of sense.
33:30Why you got that high-octane motor.
33:32Yep.
33:34But you still got put oil in that, baby.
33:36Yeah, absolutely.
33:37Got to take care of it.
33:38Give it a tune-up.
33:39Man, he's 30 years old.
33:40You already know when you turn 30, things start to change.
33:43And then when you turn 40, ooh, things really start to change.
33:46I thought I'd recognize that.
33:48I can tell you what 50's like.
33:49I got the doctor visits.
33:54Nah, man, I'm good.
33:58Mexicans don't go to the doctor.
34:00That's why you don't want to find out what's wrong.
34:01Yeah, if you don't tell, they don't tell you something's wrong.
34:05You'll be all right, right?
34:05All right, man.
34:06Oh, my grandfather would live to leave with 95.
34:08Nice body work from Santillán, at least to keep it down at bay.
34:22That's a sweet right hook.
34:24This is what you expected from Santillán.
34:29Yeah, I mean, he's just in angles now.
34:31He's not sitting directly in front.
34:32You know, he's trying to create a little space, keep some space for himself,
34:35trying to run into some punches, some shots.
34:39You don't necessarily look.
34:40What people fail to realize is that although you're the shorter fighter,
34:44it doesn't necessarily mean you've got to get in the inside.
34:48You have an opportunity to set up, to set traps, lateral traps on the outside,
34:53bring in the taller fighter, let him make mistakes, and you'll make him pay.
34:58Santillán is a tremendous counter puncher.
35:01Yeah, but Santillán had a nice right hand.
35:03Then Santillán walked him into a one-two that stopped him in his tracks.
35:07But at the same time, it all depends on the situation at hand, too.
35:11How the fight is going.
35:13Can you afford to sit on the outside and box?
35:17Or should you be pressing forward to impress these judges?
35:20So the situation matters, too.
35:23Situation of boxing.
35:25Yeah.
35:26Because the judges can be seeing this as,
35:29hey, why is he moving so much?
35:31Why is he not punching?
35:33What's going on?
35:34You know, this pressure must be affecting them.
35:42Again, judging, as much as they say it's about effective punching
35:46and all this stuff, it's all about reactions.
35:49They're trying to see how fighters react to punches.
35:51That's what they're looking for.
35:52The top judges in the business is looking for that.
35:56The right hand is definitely making Santillán react,
36:00even though he had a good start to this round.
36:03Last 15 seconds.
36:05Now Santillán being effective with this movement.
36:11Is he effective off the back foot?
36:12Has he landed some clean shots, some hard shots?
36:16He did land some, but I think the harder punches
36:18in this fight have been landed by Betran.
36:20They're going to send him out to come out and take the fight.
36:33Use your rhythm in and out.
36:34Throw combinations.
36:35Throw two, three punch combinations.
36:36Don't just throw one punch, all right?
36:38Okay?
36:41Breathe.
36:44Give me a box more like that.
36:46You don't have to throw hard shots, just combinations.
36:53Make him miss and then you like two, three shots.
36:55Don't stand in front of him.
36:57Okay?
36:57Vamos, okay?
36:58Last round.
37:01In and out, in and out.
37:04Good fucking rhythm, good fucking speed.
37:06Pop, pop, pop, pop.
37:06Move, move, move.
37:07Don't stand in front of him.
37:11He's going to wait until you hit him to leave the encounter.
37:14So don't stay in front of him.
37:19Go out there and win.
37:21Go out there and win this round.
37:24You got experience.
37:25You need to go out there and win this round.
37:28Use your experience, son.
37:29We've got a great fight.
37:30We'll not keep it clean.
37:31I have it six to three in favor of Santi Yon,
37:34but there's a couple of very close rounds.
37:36It could be Betran's rounds,
37:38so you cannot believe you have it in your pocket
37:42because it's been a back-and-forth fight.
37:44And there's not been great moments of dominance
37:46in here with Gio Gio in the crowd.
37:48Remember that.
37:52Remember that Conwell fight?
37:55Yeah.
37:56You get a little bit of a sense of that, right?
38:00You got the one guy coming forward,
38:03throwing some combinations.
38:04The other guy trying to place his shots in the Conwell.
38:11And the guy coming forward trying to make the fight
38:13ends up winning the fight.
38:16How did the kids say it nowadays?
38:18It be like that?
38:20Is that what they say now?
38:21Kids?
38:21Yeah.
38:22It be like that?
38:23I can't keep up with all the new terminology.
38:26Oh!
38:27That's a good shot.
38:28Did you see how he buckled a little bit?
38:30Like, it's...
38:31Man, look.
38:34Judges are looking at that.
38:36Those type of reactions from those type of punches.
38:38And he's moving back again.
38:39This could be a critical round for Santian
38:41where he needs to come forward and try to make the fight.
38:44Try to outwork him.
38:46That's a jab.
38:47Exactly.
38:48His nose is going to be feeling for the next few days.
38:52To win this round.
38:54Good defense.
39:01Good defense for Betran as well.
39:04It's just back and forth,
39:06but there's very few rounds that were dominant.
39:10Like that sixth round was very dominant.
39:12Yeah, it was.
39:12But then...
39:13Absolutely.
39:17Oh, head clash again.
39:18Yeah.
39:20That's real headbutt.
39:21No, God.
39:21Go.
39:22Watch your heads, guys.
39:23Just go.
39:24Thomas Taylor on top of the action here with a minute left.
39:30And who wants it more?
39:32Yeah.
39:32The 61 seconds, Tim, are going to be the difference.
39:35Look, you ain't got nothing in the bag, man.
39:38You know, in fighters, we know when things are close.
39:40We know when things are challenging.
39:42Absolutely.
39:43You got to want it.
39:45Nice body shot.
39:46And that might have been low?
39:47Yes, that one was low.
39:48Time.
39:51Accidental.
39:52An accidental low blow.
39:57Right there.
39:58Stay there.
40:01Right in the star-built sign.
40:03Oh, gosh.
40:04Totally accidental.
40:05I'll give you some time.
40:06Take your time.
40:07Take your time.
40:08That's brutal.
40:09Pain all the way down your lower limbs.
40:16Hey.
40:17Weakens your legs a bit.
40:19All right.
40:19Stay right here.
40:20You know, you start to shake your legs out, try to get some blood.
40:23Time in.
40:24Blood in your legs.
40:25Yeah.
40:26That hurts.
40:28Painting your abdomen as well.
40:29Taking shots like that.
40:33Trapping to every single fighter.
40:37All right.
40:37Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop, stop.
40:42See what Beltran has left here.
40:43The 25 seconds left, straight left from Santillan, who's looking to close out this fight
40:50in front of his hometown fans, and the Gio Gio chants here in San Diego are audible.
41:00Talking about guys, let's go.
41:05Time went there.
41:08Good job, Ryan.
41:08Ten rounds in the books.
41:12Total punches, 141 for Giovanni Santillan, 118 for Angel Beltran.
41:20It was a close fight.
41:23Beltran gave a fight.
41:24The right hand, the right uppercut especially, was very effective for him.
41:28But overall, Santillan looked like he did more.
41:31Yeah, he does.
41:32I mean, look, he has more experience at the higher level,
41:35and I was expecting him to pass this test tonight with flying colors.
41:39However, Beltran came to fight.
41:42You know, Beltran had a plan, that uppercut, straight right hand.
41:45I guess the southpaw was working.
41:47You saw a little bit of, you know, strategy change by Santillan.
41:53You know, instead of resulting in staying on that 50-50 stand directly in front of his opposition
41:57and going toe-to-toe, he decided, hey, I want to use some angles.
42:01You know, I want to use some right hooks, some straight left hands.
42:03You know, I want to be clean.
42:05I want to use some defense as well in spots.
42:07He started attacking that body, started to slow down Beltran.
42:12But again, great performance, I would say.
42:15I'm going to say great outing by both men.
42:18Not the best, however.
42:20For what it's worth, I thought it was a competitive fight.
42:24All right, there are the numbers for this particular bout,
42:27and you see that there was a marked difference in not only the percentage,
42:32but the number of punches landed in favor of Santillan.
42:36Yet Beltran threw a lot more, 70 or 83 more.
42:41Yeah.
42:41That might be something that the judges look at and say, hey, he was the aggressor in this fight.
42:45Exactly.
42:46All right, Jimmy Lennon Jr. is in the center of the ring, and he has the judges' decision.
42:51All right, Jimmy Lennon Jr. with the decision.
43:06Ladies and gentlemen, after 10 rounds of action, we have a unanimous decision.
43:12All three judges scored about the same, 97 to 93.
43:16All three in favor of the winner, Gallo de Oro, Giovanni Santillan.
43:26Make it 34 professional wins for the Golden Rooster.
43:32Giovanni Santillan, he gives the hometown crowd something to be happy about
43:36here in San Diego, California.
43:39We march up.
