Bournemouth v Aston Villa - Matt Maher analysis
Transcript
00:00Good evening from Bournemouth where we're about to hit the road for home, reflecting on a vital win for Aston Villa, a win that has guaranteed them European football for a third straight year and means they are still very much alive in the race for a top five finish and a return to the Champions League.
00:20Their match winner, well, it's that man, Ollie Watkins, becomes their outright all-time Premier League top scorer, overtaking Gabriel Agbonahoy, 75th goal in the Premier League in a Villa shirt, right on the stroke of half-time, Bournemouth lost the ball deep in their own half, Morgan Rodgers, who had been pretty anonymous in the first half without hesitation, whips the ball into the middle, great finish from Watkins as he has done so often and Villa 1-0 up and they were good for it, Marco Asensio had hit the
00:50post, Boubacar Kamara would be denied in spectacular fashion by Kepler who then kept out Matty Cash's follow-up and Villa break the deadlock on the stroke of half-time, nothing then happens in the second half, Villa are seeing the game out easily and then with 10 minutes to go, Jacob Ramsey picks up what was a very daft second booking, referee Stuart Atwell didn't have a great game but Ramsey made it far too easy for him to show the second yellow card, his first yellow card was for an angry reaction to being fouled
01:20in the first half, so it was a bit of a daft sending off, Villa down to 10 men, suddenly Bournemouth have a bit of hope, Martinez, Emi Martinez, same from Evan Nielsen and then the last kick, almost last kick of the game across Antoine Semenu at the far post, Martinez gets a touch to stop it going in and then somehow Daniel Jebbison doesn't score, it looks like Matty Cash did enough to put him off but it was a pretty bad miss, Bournemouth of course scored with the last kick
01:47at Villa Park back in October in the reverse fixture and the same nearly happened again but this time Villa held on, means they're guaranteed to finish in the top seven, guaranteed European football next year, the only question now is what competition, it could still be the Champions League, they are level on points now with Chelsea and Newcastle who play each other tomorrow, Forest play Leicester
02:17and this race is going to go right to the wire, Villa another big 1-0 win for them on the road.
