01:11this is our track and yet again he brings Pukekohe to its feet but it's time for another
01:18New Zealand motorsport hero to stand up it's time for someone else to dominate which one of
01:23these Kiwis wants it more will it be Fabian Coulthard Shane Van Gisbergen or will it be
01:30Scotty McLaughlin the Kiwis will erupt look out there's a new kid in town in the V8 supercars his
01:37name is Scott McLaughlin is absolutely no doubt the game has changed which one of
01:43these Kiwis wants to take my mantle as the king of Pukekohe
01:56we're in New Zealand 40 kilometres south of beautiful Auckland and we're at a famous
02:01motorsport venue Pukekohe Park Raceway which in the early days was home to some
02:06great events the New Zealand Grand Prix in the Tasman series and an enormous crowd
02:09motors building up already for this very special Anzac weekend edition of V8 supercar championship
02:16racing and cars in the pit lane at the moment currently preparing for what is going to be a
02:21short sharp blast of very intense qualifying it'll be a double shot and then later today
02:26two 100 kilometre races it'll be a busy weekend down in the lane as well Mark Larkham is down
02:31there with Mark Winterbottom's car number five and that thing was so close yesterday Larko to being
02:35wiped out mate it was very very close to being wiped out we'll have a look at that
02:39later but I mean the pressure is on there you're dead right these guys you saw Mark he's quite
02:44self-analytical he made mistakes in the race don't forget the pressure the rivalry that we talk about
02:49between him and this bloke over here behind us Jamie Winkup now he had power steering dramas in the race
02:55yesterday put him out of contention but these guys will be well and truly in it remember in that
02:59qualifying session yesterday three and a half tenths of a second between 18 cars I can tell you got to go
03:06to a lot of places in the world to find anything like that in motorsport thanks Larko it's going to
03:12be a very busy day here is the lineup and we've got Jamie Winkup as the reigning champion carrying the
03:17number one for Red Bull Racing Australia Garth Tander with Anzac colours on the car this weekend HRT
03:22Lee Holtzworth winner at Winton Mark Winterbottom a lucky escape yesterday and a winner at Winton
03:27Chas Mostert car number six Todd Kelly in car seven Nissan Ultimate Jason Bright did a great job
03:33yesterday to win on Anzac Day Will Davison across from Ford to Erebus Motorsport Fabian Coulthard
03:39and Rick Kelly looking further afield Scotty Pyre it'll be a lone Wilson security racing
03:46exercise from this point in the weekend onwards because David Wall's car yesterday is damaged
03:52after an incident at turn 11 we'll talk more about that later Jack Perkins Dale Wood and James

04:22Lowndes car number triple-eight who continues to lead the championship in fact yesterday by virtue of
04:27his third placing stretched the lead in the series certainly did it was a great performance very
04:31consistent people are already talking about the championship Neil and this is the racetrack that
04:35you've been talking about just south of Auckland Pukekohe Park Raceway 2.91 kilometres 11 turns
04:42very very fast 255k is the top speed but for over half of the lap it is full throttle and Jamie Winkup
04:50holds the qualifying record we will look at these sectors sector one and sector two are critical
04:55when we go into these qualifying sections yeah once again here at Pukekohe Park Brad Jones Racing are on
05:04song Jason Bright kicked up his weekend with a pole position yesterday and took victory in race 10 but it
05:10really is Fabian Coulthard that is determined to get it done here at Pukekohe out of the three New
05:16Zealanders he's the only one who hasn't won a V8 supercar race on home soil look out for Fabian he
05:22wants this one and they want to take the Jason Richards Memorial Home trophy back home to Albury
05:27Brianna Crean in the pit lane today together with Mark Beretta and Mark Larkham they'll be covering all
05:31the action there'll be no shortage of it as we go on board here with Scotty McLaughlin Volvo Polestar Racing winner
05:37here 12 months ago just 19 years of age set the place on fire with a storming drive race number
05:43one on the Saturday to win in front of his family his friends and the partisan home crowd it was a

07:14so here we go car number 16 this is scotty pie's had some toyota racing series experience
07:19at this racetrack and as i alluded before when we ran through the entry list
07:23that drama yesterday for david wall that dick just spoke about was a nightmare that was a nightmare
07:26also there for garth tander wide at turn one jamie wincup had one of those moments yesterday as
07:32well in fact there were several rick kelly down there too very easily done and when you're out of
07:36the groove at turn one it's dusty and dirty offline down there and there's absolutely no grip but uh car
07:43driven by david wall contact with chas most it yesterday side by side between turns 10 and 11
07:49there was no room uh both of them blaming the other to a degree saying there wasn't sufficient
07:53racing room but race control deemed it a racing incident so there's no further action over that
07:57one by the way but sadly for david wall other than the bruised thumb he's okay but the car is an
08:04absolute shocker as the boys said and most it has responded pretty well neil because he was third
08:09in practice two he's currently third at this qualifying session scott mclaughlin for all those
08:14that are about to go on and vote scott mclaughlin was the fastest in practice two with the fastest time
08:20of the weekend at two eight nine armor all leaderboard shows winter bottom at the moment
08:25one minute 3.08 as the fast man over scottie mclaughlin a heap of them come back into the
08:30pit lane now we'll take a quick break and be back
08:39and the gangs all gearing up with another set of tires now for a continued blast of qualifying welcome
08:44back to puka kelly park a raceway qualifying for race 11 the v8 supercars championship we're racing
08:49in auckland this is one for you scapey i love this place the current chairman of the v8 supercar commission
08:54steve horn lives at wahickey island just outside auckland you jump on the ferry over there there's
09:00the wineries and the restaurants and that's a bit of you for me it's the water sports and the riding
09:04and the hiking but really encourage everybody to get over here because it's a beautiful place
09:09lots to see and do in and around auckland and right now what we're seeing and doing is qualifying
09:13race number 11 v8 supercars and it's tight at the top as always traffic traffic's off the scale here
09:20so wind cup's trying to basically drive the thing within a millimeter of its life and you can hear
09:26how disenchanted he is by the fact that there's people all over the place it's particularly bad for
09:32red bull racing because at the head of the pit lane they get out quicker than everybody else and very
09:36often catch the tail yeah and to add to the traffic on the track now this is high pressure stuff i mean we've
09:41never done this in our quiz that the 10 minute thing i just watch all the cars come in they get
09:45tires on and they go again puts a massive emphasis on your engineering prowess your ability to make
09:50decisions beforehand so i tell you there's no opportunity to change a car in between
09:56mark winterbottom scott mclaughlin chas mostard and scott high so your point mark is a good one about
10:01mostard yesterday in that very spot there at turn 10 across that enormous bump where the cars are
10:06traveling at a crazy speed he was tangled in that incident big recovery so far today to be
10:11third fastest he was quick in practice two this morning as well tim slade had some problems
10:16yesterday they changed the gearbox in that car last night in car number 47 he's currently four
10:22and looking at the body language of craig lounge finishing that last lap he did a 3-5-1
10:26kneel and with only a minute 21 i don't think he can go again that's the end of it
10:31so lounge is definitely not going to be any better than ninth currently nine holdsworth just jumped up to
10:37position six it's happy hour in these closing stages that lap we saw shane van gisbergen then
10:41moves to position four vip pet foods we're riding now with james courtney and the holden racing team
10:48pilot into the final corner here he's dancing this thing on the nose through the last corner
10:52and james courtney looking very good on the timing to get right at or near the top of this list and he
10:57does one minute 3.06 for james wind cup moves into fifth it's courtney winterbottom that's holden
11:04versus board then it's for glachlan volvo mostard for forward then wind cup the reigning champion
11:10nick perkatt following on from yesterday's beautiful drive is currently sixth they've barely touched that
11:15car a couple of little changes after they rolled it off the airplane and it's been a dream for him this
11:20weekend he's frosty he's responding green box in the first sector at the hairpin the slowest corner
11:26on the track 65 kilometers an hour in first gear and then the big wind up of pace through the final
11:33two corners yesterday in this very spot winterbottom got wide ran it down the grass punched the wall and
11:40it was a miracle that he survived can he jump over courtney no how tight point zero one here's his
11:48teammate david reynolds check it flags out her cap to come down there too on board with mclaughlin
11:58this is his second lap it might not be quite good enough for tire quality let's have a look
12:03mclaughlin 46.52 second second no three two three his final lap time lounge to finish his lap
12:11i said before that he was in trouble let's just see what he can do with this with title he's out in the
12:15third big moment for lounge that was a massive moment and ends up 15 escaping between scotty pie and
12:24will davison so all just completing their laps now this is james moffett he was 10th in yesterday's
12:29race he's ended up 20th there's tander crossing the line and garth will be 11th
12:37lee holdsworth still to come as we go back to chas boston through the final two turns
12:41see the car bottomy out on those bumps in the final corner will davison and lee holdsworth
12:47disappointing now 16th and 17th for the two eras mercedes-benz vehicles
12:54percat good job to be sixth wow armor or pole we can breathe now and james courtney can too because
13:03he's grabbed a pole position he's first of 2014 not a bad performance and his sixth career pole
13:10and remember that they're going to do it all again very shortly that was qualifying race 11 qualifying
13:15race number 12 is to come drivers of all sizes and scales scattered up and down this field there are a
13:24lot of stories to tell we'll come back and tell them in just a moment
13:32we're back at pukakoe outside auckland and the armor pole position has gone to this man in car number 22
13:38james courtney for the holden racing team he's already had a race win this year in adelaide and boy does
13:43that make a contribution to their anzac appeal jc's back here in the boot he's ready for action and he
13:51doesn't have too much time to celebrate because right now as you heard the race director tim shenken
13:55call we're setting out a qualify for race number 12 this afternoon another 20 minute blast there's
14:00little or no time to think at the moment they're going to have to think on their feet and tune these
14:04cars as quickly as they can as fast as they can and as efficiently as they can i believe he is on the
14:10line jc congratulations on that pole position the first one since winton last year and that one was sweet
14:15yeah it's great news boys i'm pumped it's uh it's great for the team and uh to give that money to
14:22the anzacs it's uh it's good everyone should jump on you should mask my donation scapey i will do he
14:29never makes a donation to anything other than scapey you know that jc though that's harsh hey mate you
14:34said to me last night that the car was flat sliding and it wasn't what you wanted it to be particularly
14:39at turn four so clearly you and alistair tidied it up last night yeah look the boys did a great
14:45job tuning it up overnight still got a little bit of an issue it's still not as good as what i want
14:50but uh now it's a lot better go and concentrate on uh quality 12 thanks jc talk to you later well done

15:00james courtney winner race number three adelaide the clips all 500 he's in the points battle so far in
15:062014 and grabs pole in that previous one it was a nice lap that he put together there mate it was a
15:11really good lap and it does look like as you said that the accuracy of the car is much better we've
15:16seen some great two-wheel action across the curve at turn two and the other part of it is which we
15:21were talking about earlier in the show today seven different pole setters in 11 races unbelievable
15:27very healthy for the sport great for all of us enjoying this wherever you are watching around
15:33australia and new zealand and around the world when your driver your favorite team
15:37gets up and enjoys some success barrettes hey neil speak of enjoy have a look at this behind me
15:42this is the crowd for qualifying there are thousands of people up on this main hill
15:46and there's little wonder why this view down the main street is just incredible the cars are flying
15:51past here and all of these people who have come early have got the best seat in the house they are
15:55in for a great afternoon brett i can see where you're standing there mate if you could just step back
15:59a pace or two please you're making me nervous i'm loving it i'm not moving fantastic hey uh just
16:06watching everyone's pretty well gone out there on tires that they finished that first little
16:10qualifying session with to give a run to some of the changes that they've obviously tried so at the
16:14end of this session it is going to be red hot but man a match for me for that session there just before
16:19chas mosto he was nowhere yesterday they had a good chat to him about how to get his confidence in
16:24the car and it wasn't about changing the car it was mark winter bottom minute winter bottom sorry
16:28using his data to coach him to drive the circuit because remember chas has not been here he didn't
16:34come here last year in a va so well done chas mostard and even yesterday they were heading into
16:40qualifying for race number 10 giving him pointers as he was rolling out about you should do this you
16:44should do that it's just time it's seat time i mean he's had some new zealand super touring experience
16:50here and there's only one genuine pookie rookie in the field and that's robert dalga and other guys
16:54have all had a little taste but there's nothing like a v8 supercar here and earlier today scafie
16:58and i in fact stood right where marcaretta was before and i said to you at the time doesn't matter
17:03how many times i hang around this it makes the hair stand up the cars sound good they look good and
17:07it's hard to drive around here ms hey scafie sorry mate could you just lean over and that little
17:11word pookie rookie could you just cross that out of crompo's book there next to you on the desk goodness
17:15so i will i will but you're 100 right that the level of confidence and the amount of commitment
17:21at this place because it's so fast it's so bumpy it's got undulation it's got real character and for
17:28chas mostard he hasn't been able to get familiar he hasn't got the sense of ease through this section
17:34here where he can really commit to it and clearly in the last session and in qualifying done a really
17:40good job to respond from a very average yesterday great visual example there of how hard you have
17:46to push at this racetrack van gisberg and on screen it's gone up to position four now we ride with
17:50scotty mclaughlin he's currently second in this lineup he's on a three one it's tight once again it's
17:55crazy tight 0.01 of a second between win cup and mclaughlin i think the point that we're all trying
18:02to make here is that you've almost got to go beyond the comfort zone at this racetrack to see the number
18:07you desire on the dashboard yeah just talking about scott mclaughlin it is so interesting to
18:14watch the crowd there are so many people here every single time he goes across the uh the start finish
18:20line the crowd are on their feet they're yelling they're cheering he's got his parents here he's got
18:24his younger sister here he's got the entire jandal army here everyone is on board uh with scott mclaughlin
18:31and there's a lot of pressure on him as well because he has got so many fans but doing well at the moment
18:36third in that first quality session and looking good in this one sitting on top there now viewer
18:41vote today will scott mclaughlin win at puka koe again today can we repeat what he did last year
18:47i'm looking forward to see it this afternoon it's an interesting question to ask and the answer may
18:51lie in how he qualifies and at the moment he's the fastest man we've still got just a little under
18:56five minutes remaining in qualifying it's mclaughlin on a 103.4 everybody's consuming data having a think
19:02about it that is rick kelly in the jack daniels nissan we'll take a quick break come back for
19:05more armor all qualified
19:15it's qualifying for race number 12 with just over three minutes remaining james courtney on screen he
19:20grabbed a pole in that previous session for race number 11 he's cycling up a set of tires ready for
19:25this one mark and did you just see that neil he didn't start the lap so very cleverly he's done a sort
19:30of a three-quarter lap and he's put all these eggs in the basket to finish this last lap off
19:36so there's a lot of risk involved in this for courtney because he did a great job in the previous
19:40session but obviously the front tires weren't up to temperature and he's going to have a crack right
19:45at the end so wherever you're watching us this will be an incredible two and a half minutes of
19:51qualifying for race 12 of our championship perkatt now who's been in the pits for most of the session
19:56did a very good job before did a nice job in that previous session to qualify strongly but
20:02nervous when you're buried in the pit lane for so long and his name was way down the bottom even
20:06that lap that he just recorded then that we saw in the heavy haulage australia entry it's only got him
20:1121st in the field so we'll keep an eye on that in fact a few people took the opportunity to do more work
20:19so michael caruso spent a long period of time in there as well but nice job yesterday by nick
20:24perkatt i thought boys very very strong performance and it follows the performance that we saw at
20:30winton as well earlier in the year it was a bit scrappy here or there but at winton he did a very nice job
20:35wind cup meantime he's currently second and your observation in the brake markers they've made
20:40a subtle change to the stiffness of that car number one it looks like it's helped well it does it looks
20:45like it's a little bit stiffer at the back which makes it a little bit more oversteering
20:49rick kelly at the moment we're on board with rick he's slightly up at the second sector
20:54on scott mclaughlin winkups also on a very good lap let's just see what happens here with rick kelly
20:59the cars look good all weekend he was very unlucky yesterday red flag now and he's missed that lap
21:08oh my goodness dahlgren in the wall at turn four or between three and four
21:12four that would have put rick to the top that would have put rick kelly to the top there and within
21:1850 meters of the line the red flag come out and he was over and out this is a cruel sport with the
21:25clock stopped at one minute and 20 seconds to run
21:28so what dave couch is saying there is go to the end of the lane queue up we might get you around in
21:45time for one more crack at it that'll give us a chance to take a quick break here on seven when we
21:49come back we'll watch the conclusion of this qualifying for race number 12. robert dalgren
21:54there in the wall turn four
21:59well this is going to be desperate you can see the last cars coming out remember a minute and
22:0421 to go in this session it's about a minute and a four around here their out lap will be a little bit
22:10slower so these guys here if they don't cross this line with say 12 or 15 seconds to go they are not
22:16going to do a flying lap let's wait and see it'll be very very tight i like our hot seat there but
22:20let me tell you just to give you an indication of how intense things are in this session just rolling
22:25out and lining up to go we had a collision where mark widderbottom rammed you to the back of the
22:30just trying to get position in this lineup and likewise jason bright gave scotty blockland a shunt
22:35just trying to get a better position too so both cars have had a little bit of panel damage as a result of
22:40that so the field scrambling back to the control line here in the hope that they can put together
22:45one more flying lap and i think there'll be some that literally struggle to get there in time this
22:50is going to be mega intense for a little over i reckon half to two-thirds of the field because the tail
22:56enders i don't think you're going to get a lap done at the head of the queue is garth tander he'll
23:01just get to the line four three two so there we go there's a good half dozen to ten odd cars
23:09i don't think win cup got there so he needed to be more aggressive to get back in the queue when we
23:15saw him in conversation with david couch and he said come back in we'll have a talk we'll do tire
23:19pressures that's cost him no doubt but he is second provisionally on this grid at the moment for
23:26race number 12. so tander's got great track position uh he's down in 13th at the moment
23:32incidentally dahlgren had done a time good enough for 12th when he went into the wall
23:36so they take his best time from him and bar him from the remainder of the session but he is currently
23:42still in 19th by virtue of his previously better time or alternative time check tander you get a
23:51second split here for six five this is not too bad this will be right up there somewhere
23:56this is a pressure lap if ever there was one one corner remaining for tander he's got two green boxes
24:04and almost out of road at the final corner for garth tander
24:09oh last sector didn't get the job done position five but a great recovery good job there only about
24:14four cars made that lap and put us up good job he hasn't had pole position really good since 2012.
24:20so scott mclaughlin local hero on pole position for race 12.
24:27oh yeah so will scott mclaughlin win a pukakoe again to go today this is an unbelievable story so go

24:44so he grabbed a pole at winton remember for race number nine he's done it again here in new zealand
24:51and to some degree it helps us answer that question perhaps because we all know that qualify well race
24:56well he's the man with the armor all pole scotty mclaughlin james courtney and a whole bunch of
25:02drivers were trapped by that red flag with just a smidgen over 80 seconds remaining unbelievable session
25:10but a great story for the kiwis and will davison and chas mostert we have to find out more about
25:15that story and we'll do that a little bit later on there are a couple of people that just didn't
25:18string laps together at all but here's the man of the moment scotty mclaughlin nice job

25:37well done scotty he's only 20 years of age he's already been a winner in v8 supercars he's already
25:44had a pole he's building a massive following and that was a nice job under extreme pressure and he
25:50squeaked home by 0.05 of a second from jamie winkup who's arguably been the best in the business and
25:56sits on 55 poles in his career just behind peter brock there's richard holway engineer
26:03to scotty's right big day for the kiwis
26:08the excitement level in the garage here is just incredible scotty mclaughlin wanted no more than
26:12this just shaking hands with gary rogers and he's about to take the helmet off and uh we'll have a chat
26:17but remember dad wayne mum diane they're all in the stand they've got about 30 family and friends with
26:22them and uh they will be beside themselves i think scotty uh mum and dad and the family they might have
26:28all just jumped out of the stand with that result congratulations yeah we're uh we're pretty lucky
26:32there with the red flag but um i gave it my all the car's been very good and um to be third and first now
26:38my second pole when i didn't never thought i'd ever get one it's awesome enjoy it mate it's gonna be a great
