Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney publicly rejected and ridiculed U.S. President Donald Trump's provocative suggestion of making Canada the 51st state, firmly stating “Canada is not for sale.” The dramatic exchange unfolded during Carney’s visit to the White House, where Trump reportedly floated the idea as a "real estate deal." Carney sarcastically responded, mocking Trump's signature phrase "Never say never," drawing laughter from the press corps. The unexpected diplomatic clash adds tension to U.S.-Canada relations and echoes past moments where world leaders have publicly clashed with Trump.

00:00As you know from real estate, there are some places that are never for sale.
00:04It's true.
00:05We're sitting in one right now, you know, Buckingham Palace that you visited as well.
00:08That's true.
00:09And having met with the owners of Canada over the course of the campaign last several months, it's not for sale, won't be for sale.
00:18Canada is stepping up the military participation because Mark knew, you know, they were low and now they're stepping it up.
00:26And that's a very important thing.
00:27But never say never, never say never.
00:30Mr. President, and Mr. Prime Minister, I'd like to get your response to this too.
00:37But Mr. President, you had said that Canada should become the first state.
00:41No, no.
00:42Well, I still believe that.
00:44But, you know, it takes two to tango, right?
00:47But no, I do.
00:48I mean, I believe it would be a massive tax cut for the Canadian citizens.
00:53You get free military.
00:54You get tremendous medical cares and other things.
00:58There would be a lot of advantages, but it would be a massive tax cut.
01:04And it's also a beautiful, you know, as a real estate developer, you know, I'm a real estate developer at heart.
01:10When you get rid of that artificially drawn line, somebody drew that line many years ago with like a ruler, just a straight line right across the top of the country.
01:17When you look at that beautiful formation when it's together, I'm a very artistic person.
01:24But when I looked at that beautiful, I said, that's the way it was meant to be.
01:27But, you know, I guess I do feel it's much better for Canada.
01:33But we're not going to be discussing that unless somebody wants to discuss it.
01:37I think that there are tremendous benefits to the Canadian citizens, tremendously lower taxes, free military, which honestly we give you essentially anyway, because we're protecting Canada if you have had a problem.
01:49But I think, you know, it's it would really be a wonderful marriage because it's it's two places that get along very well.
01:58They like each other a lot.
02:00Well, if if I may, as you know, from real estate, there are some places that are never for sale.
02:07It's true.
02:07We're sitting in one right now, you know, Buckingham Palace and you visited as well.
02:11And having met with the owners of Canada over the course of the campaign last several months, it's not for sale, won't be for sale ever.
02:21But the opportunity is in the partnership and and what we can build together.
02:27And we have done that in the past.
02:28And part of that, as the president just said, is with respect to our own security.
02:33And my government is committed for a step change in our investment in Canadian security and our partnership.
02:41And I'll say this as well, that the president has revitalized international security, revitalized NATO and us playing our full weight in NATO.
02:51And that will be part of it.
02:52And they have they have the way I must say Canada is stepping up the military participation because Mark, you know, they were low and now they're stepping it up.
03:06And that's a very important thing.
03:07But never say never, never say never.
