In his latest video column Greg Stafford, MP for Farnham and Bordon, discusses why we should reflect and give thanks as the nation marks VE Day. On May 8, 1945, after six long years of fear, hardship and sacrifice, the Second World War in Europe came to an end. It was a moment of immense relief and pride for Britain and her allies, and it remains a powerful reminder of the courage, unity and resilience that defined an extraordinary generation.

00:00This week we are celebrating VE Day and that greatest generation in 11 months between D-Day
00:06and VE Day managed to defeat fascism. But what's Labour achieved in defence over the
00:10last 11 months? They're selling off the Chagos. They're not stepping forward when we need
00:15them. We locally have such a rich history when it comes to the armed forces and defence.
00:21So that's why I'm championing to make sure that we invest properly and fully to make
00:26sure this country is defended as we go into the future.
