00:00Say Philip Poole! Say Philip Poole! Say Philip Poole! Say Philip Poole!
00:07I'm a swimmer at Philip Poole and I think it's a tragedy that such a beautiful asset
00:14in such a beautiful city is going to be destroyed. How can we allow this to happen? That is outrageous.
00:23I'm Miller and well I've been going to Philip Poole since I was you know tiny and with my
00:28two brothers and sister we just had some great memories there and it would be a real shame to have a go and I think it needs to stay.
00:44So coming along today to support Fiona Carrick who is a fantastic local independent really standing up for our local community and investment in infrastructure on the south side for our community.
00:53So we've got about 5,600 signatures. It's a huge effort by the Say Philip Poole Group.
01:00They've been terrific out there advocating for their local community to bring back our recreational amenity into the Wodan Town Centre.
01:11It's really important that we have an aquatic pool strategy and approach across all of Canberra so everyone has access to a pool.
01:15It's really important for families to have outdoor access, for lap swimmers like me to have somewhere to go and exercise and for people to go and socialise.
01:25It's really important that we have it everywhere and people don't have to travel miles to get to a pool.
01:30Particularly when public transport still isn't a great option for many people here in Canberra.
01:33G'day, my name is Martin Miller and I'm part of the Save the Philip Poole Group.
01:39It's been there, I've been swimming there since I was in high school and that's in the 1980s.
01:46We need to keep our facilities. ACT has one of the lowest aquatic facilities rates per person in Australia.
01:54We can't swim in our lakes, we can't swim in our rivers because they're polluted.
01:59So we need more facilities like this. An indoor facility with less capacity will not do it.
02:07Our borders can be changed.
