00:00...mood at five past one.
00:04But to start us off, it's the latest action from the Autotrader British Touring Car Championship rounds seven and eight that took place at Silverstone last weekend.
00:13A championship that so far has been dominated by the Audi of Frank Bieler, who's won four out of the six races so far and has a 35-point championship lead.
00:22But a weight penalty was due to be imposed on Audi after these two races.
00:26Murray Walker is the commentator on Silverstone's new international circuit.
00:31It's a new circuit at Silverstone, the 2.2-mile international circuit, and a new look on the grid.
00:37Italian Roberto Revalho's BMW in pole position with his teammate Joe Winklehock's BMW second.
00:44It's the first time this year that ex-world champion Revalhock has out-qualified Winklehock.
00:50Kelvin Birch's Volvo's third, David Leslie's Honda's fourth, James Kay's Honda, and Richard Rydell's Volvo, fifth and sixth.
00:58Row four, Menuh's Renault, Bindcliffe's Audi, and championship leader Frank Bieler starts ninth.
01:04Then it's the two Vauxhalls, John Cleland and James Thompson, the Ford Mondeos, Radicic and Robertson, Gary Ailes' Nissan, and Tim Harvey's Persia.
01:13Watch Revalhock, top left corner, superstar by the Italian, away he goes, Bert and Leslie are up with him, Bert, Bert in the Volvo, Leslie in the Honda Accord, down to Copse, BMW leads.
01:29Then it's Winklehock, Bert, Leslie, Bert up into second place, and Leslie's hit, Leslie's hit Winklehock.
01:36The rest of them go round, Copse, Winklehock is recovering, then it's 135 miles an hour, down to Beckett's, Revalhock leads.
01:47Bert, Leslie, Winklehock, Rydell is fifth in the Volvo, on now to the new Ireland chicane, named after the great Ennis Ireland.
01:57Through that, now they sweep left at about 100 miles an hour, down towards Abbey.
02:08Down to second gear for Abbey, 50 miles an hour, this is it, Revalhock leads, Bert's second, Leslie's third, Winklehock is fourth, then it's up to Briggs, on the Grand Prix circuit.
02:19And this is it, Bert versus Leslie, for second and third places, where with Leslie now, that's Bert ahead into Volvo, turning into Priory, the left-hander.
02:30Now Brooklands, Leslie's going for that second place, Winklehock is behind him in the white BMW, then it's Rydell, Peter Luffield, Bert and Leslie, Volvo and Honda.
02:42The Honda's well up, now we're in car with Alarmenu, and Winklehock is off, Winklehock has rejoined, but Winklehock in the BMW, brand wide, that's Rydell ahead.
02:55And off goes Steve Robinson, as the rest go down to Cox.
03:01With Winklehock, he's back on the track, he's in sixth place, that's Alarmenu ahead.
03:06130 miles an hour, as they come up towards Beckett.
03:11Winklehock hard on it, and Winklehock even harder in the Audi.
03:16John Winklehock moves ahead of Joe Winklehock, there's the proof, number 44, that's the Audi.
03:23Through Ireland.
03:28On car with Will Hoy now, ninth position.
03:31That's Bieler ahead in the Audi, the four-wheel drive Audi.
03:34This is 140 miles an hour up towards Abbey.
03:37Turn in here.
03:39Biccliffe ahead, Winklehock ahead of him.
03:42And Bieler, as the silver Audi, is ahead of the bunch altogether.
03:46Into bridge, Revalia, Bert, Leslie, Rydell, that's Rydell in the Volvo.
03:53Menu behind him in the Renault is in fifth position, and he goes very wide.
03:59Out of roadblocks.
04:00Biccliffe, Winklehock, and Bieler, six, seven, and eight, we're with Will Hoy, he's ninth.
04:09And that's Bieler ahead.
04:11Bieler, the German, the championship leader, well down for him here at Silverstone, but he's
04:16going through on the inside, and with him is Will Hoy.
04:20Bieler dropping back, Hoy going ahead, and the BMW 2.
04:24Now, we're with Bieler, there's Winklehock off the left, Hoy immediately in front, Hoy goes
04:30ahead of the BMW, they turn into Copse, number 22 is Joe Winklehock, and he's on to the gravel.
04:36Look at him, losing places, we're inside the BMW now, and he's losing place after place after
04:42place.
04:44Into Beckett's, in the yellow and white Vauxhall.
04:48Oh, that's James Thompson, behind him is James Kane in the Honda, through Ireland.
04:5444 is Biccliffe, and their nose to tail, down to Abbey.
05:01Biccliffe versus Hoy, sixth and seventh.
05:04Audi and Renault, those are they.
05:07Back again with Will Hoy, looking at John Biccliffe's Audi.
05:11And this is Biccliffe's first year in the British Touring Car Championship.
05:15Terrific performance.
05:17Over the Crested Bridge, turning to the right-hander, Revalia is still leading, Bert is still second.
05:24Biccliffe's left front tyre smoking as he turns into the corner, round the left-hander of
05:29Brooklands.
05:31On car with Hoy.
05:35Look at the Audi ahead, coming up towards the end of the lap.
05:38Round the right-hander of Lafayette, up towards Woodcote.
05:42Here's Woodcote, Biccliffe runs wide, over the rumble strip, under the grass, holds his
05:47place.
05:48That gives Hoy the opportunity to close up a bit, and he does so.
05:51And behind him is James Thompson in the Vauxhall.
05:54Down to Cots again, and this is the battle for sixth Leaves.
06:01Audi, Renault, Vauxhall, Thompson moving up.
06:06Hoy closing on on the inside.
06:08And Will Hoy absolutely rockets past Biccliffe and Thompson.
06:15That was incredible.
06:17Turning to Ireland.
06:18That was a marvellous move by Will Hoy in the Renault Laguna.
06:23He's moved up two places.
06:26But poor Radisic is in the pits in the Ford Mondeo.
06:30They were late getting this car ready for the season, and they're paying the penalty now.
06:38Dick Bennett, he's the man in charge.
06:41He's got a big weight on his shoulders, and Winklehock is coming in, the 1993 champion.
06:45Oh, the throttle's just stuck itself hard down on the firewall.
06:51And it's obviously something inside the mechanism, inside the engine.
06:55It just holds the throttle flat on the floor.
06:58Roberto Revalia leads at Silverstone, the world champion of 1987.
07:05Kelvin Bertie's second, Leslie's third.
07:07Rydell is fourth, and Alamedou is fifth.
07:10But Frank Bieler, we're with him, is 13th.
07:16Ahead of him, the two Peugeots, Tim Harvey and Patrick Watts.
07:22Bieler in the four-wheel drive.
07:23Audi is trying to get past Tim Harvey.
07:26And look at the bumper of Tim Harvey's Peugeot.
07:28Flailing about behind the car.
07:30Bieler dives through on the inside.
07:32He's going to move up a place, is he?
07:34But he's on the right line to do it.
07:35But Tim Harvey is fighting back.
07:38We're going down the straight towards Cox at 140 miles an hour.
07:42And Tim Harvey's holding his place, but he's on the outside.
07:44Bieler is bound to move ahead.
07:46He does so up into 12th position.
07:52Back in car with Tim Harvey on the way down to Beckett's.
07:55Look at the power of this Peugeot.
07:59Bieler leaves the braking lane with the four-wheel drive.
08:02Goes through Beckett's down to Ireland again.
08:05So, there is Bintlett.
08:08Easy.
08:09And down towards us now, Thompson and Hoy.
08:13Hoy, number four in the Renault, just ahead of James Thompson.
08:17And he's in sixth position.
08:21Up towards Bridge now.
08:24Team is absolutely flat out.
08:27Will Hoy is ahead, but Thompson is pushing very hard indeed
08:31as he goes round the right-hander and down the inside into Prairie, the left-hander.
08:34But they're touching, they're touching.
08:37Will Hoy goes off.
08:39And he's losing places.
08:41We're back again with him now.
08:42He's down into eighth position.
08:45He's just got nowhere to go with Thompson on his left.
08:48Off the track.
08:49Rejoins in eighth position.
08:51And pushing hard to try and get up with John Binkcliffe's Audi again.
08:57Now, here's the mystery.
08:58The BMW people seem to have decided that Wickle Hawk's race is not over.
09:03He's out of the car, but they're getting it ready to go out on the track again.
09:08Well, there's Joe.
09:09What happened?
09:11Just what happened?
09:12OK, of course, I missed it out at the beginning.
09:18And in the race, somebody pushed me off, so I am...
09:23But now I have to be a little bit cooler.
09:25OK, very bad luck, Joe.
09:27Yeah.
09:28Don't slam the door, Joe.
09:32Oh.
09:33So, boy, look.
09:34Look at this.
09:35Kelvin Virgin, the Volvo, has caught Roberto Revalho.
09:38And no wonder he's made the fastest lap of the race.
09:41It's 1.26.8.
09:44And that is a last record for touring cars for the new Silverstone International Circuit.
09:49And Kelvin Burt is going for it.
09:52He's caught the BMW.
09:54He's pushing really hard.
09:56He's got the only man to have won a touring car world championship in front of him.
10:00And this is Kelvin's second season in touring cars.
10:04Last year with Ford.
10:05This year with Volvo.
10:07The X-Formula Vauxhall champion.
10:09The X-Formula 3 champion.
10:11And Volvo have yet to win a race in 1996.
10:18And it's all agog in the mid lane.
10:22Especially at BMW.
10:23Because Joe Winklehock is going back to set up his car for race two.
10:28Back onto the track goes the BMW.
10:30And there's the other one.
10:32And it's still Revalhock in the lead at bridge.
10:35And Kelvin Burt is trying to go through on the inside.
10:38And is he doing it?
10:39Yes!
10:40Burt goes through in the Volvo.
10:42Revalhock tries to retake the place on the inside.
10:45But as they turn into Luffiel, the double right-hander.
10:48Burt has got the line and keeps the place.
10:51Kelvin Burt is going to lead as he comes through to start the last lap.
10:57A superb performance by the young Englishman.
11:01Over the line.
11:02Down to Cox.
11:05And he's pulling away, if anything, from Revalhock's BMW.
11:09Lesley is still third in the Honda Accord.
11:12But it's all eyes to the front.
11:16And Luffiel.
11:17There's the battle between Cleland and Bieler.
11:20Bieler is 11th.
11:21You're only going to point down to 10th position.
11:23So Bieler needs to get past the box all of these to score one.
11:27140 miles an hour down the top.
11:30John Cleland is staying ahead.
11:33Turn in.
11:35And turn out.
11:37Cleland goes wide.
11:38Runs onto the Crabble, does he?
11:40I didn't see.
11:41But whatever.
11:42Bieler is up into 10th position.
11:44And that is going to get in the last point in the race.
11:47No, it isn't.
11:49Cleland goes straight past him.
11:51He was behind all the time.
11:52He never went off.
11:54Fantastic.
11:56Cleland goes through Ireland.
11:59And surely he's going to stay ahead.
12:01But a bridge.
12:01Kelvin Burt leads Roberto Revalhock on the last lap.
12:05Up to Prairie.
12:06That's where he took the lead on the previous lap.
12:09He's just going to go around Brooklands.
12:11And the double right-hander at Luffield.
12:13Up to Woodcote to complete the lap.
12:16And it looks to me as though Roberto Revalhock is not going to be able to do anything at all about it.
12:23He is not.
12:25Because Kelvin Burt enters the last corner.
12:28Woodcote well in the lead.
12:30He can see the checkered flag.
12:31He takes the checkered flag.
12:33Kelvin Burt wins for Volvo.
12:35Revalhock is second for BMW.
12:38And that is Burt's second career touring car win.
12:41And Volvo's first of the year.
12:44So at last the Volvos come good after having dominated the testing sessions for so long only to drop back in the races.
12:51First and fourth with just six pence of a second between Burt and Revalhock.
12:55And Honda's first podium position of the year for David Leslie.
13:00It's such a turnaround from Friday to today.
13:03With the problems we had on Friday with the race car and switching to the T car yesterday which I haven't driven.
13:12And it was quick straight away.
13:14It was easily the quickest car in the race.
13:16The set-up was perfect.
13:18But it wasn't perfect for championship leader Frank Bieler.
13:20No points for 11th place.
13:23Not sensational for Renault either.
13:25Fifth and eighth.
13:25But now with heavy rain it's time for race two.
13:29And the usual problem.
13:31What tyres to fit?
13:33Revalhock.
13:34This is interesting.
13:36Revalhock is going out on intermediates as a compromise for wet or dry conditions.
13:42And this time Bieler's four-wheel drive Audi is in pole position.
13:46Row one with Menus Renault.
13:48Row two Winklehock BMW.
13:50Clelland Vauxhall.
13:51Kelvin Burt and Roberto Revalhock next.
13:53And then it's Hoy's Renault, Bidcliffe's Audi.
13:56David Leslie, Honda, third in race one.
13:59James Thompson, Vauxhall.
14:01Rydell's Volvo, James Kay's Honda.
14:04Row seven, Paul Rudicic, hoping to get a race this time.
14:08Nearly everyone's on slick tyres for a dry track.
14:12But will it stay that way?
14:13Well, Bieler leads.
14:14There's a surprise.
14:16Down into Cox.
14:18The Audi is ahead.
14:20Menus is second in the yellow Renault.
14:22Clelland, third, Rydell, fourth.
14:24Round they go.
14:25Then it's Revalhock.
14:26Coy.
14:27Bidcliffe, number 44.
14:31Round Cox.
14:33Down the straight towards Beckett.
14:35And it's wet.
14:36It's wet.
14:38We're with Menus.
14:39That's Bieler ahead.
14:40Turning into the right-hander at Beckett.
14:43And Bieler slides wide.
14:45But he manages to stay ahead.
14:46But there's contact behind.
14:48It's Clelland and Bert.
14:50Bert is off.
14:51Smoke in Radicic's Ford Mondale.
14:54And this hand's going off.
14:56Bang.
14:57Radicic hits the Peugeot in front of him.
15:00It's slip and slide at Silverstone today.
15:03But Frank Bieler leads down the straight.
15:05Menus behind him.
15:07And the four-wheel drive should do the trip for Frank.
15:09Round Abbey.
15:11Up towards Bridge.
15:15And Calvin Bird, the winner of race one in the Volvo,
15:19is out of race two.
15:20And so is Owen McCauley.
15:22That was him with the Nissan Priory.
15:25Bieler.
15:26Then you.
15:27Then it's Clelland and Revalhock.
15:28Revalhock's BMW hits Will Hoy's Renault.
15:37And yet again, Paul Will, who always seems to attract the bad luck,
15:41spins down to the bottom of the field.
15:43And that is Binkliffe, number 44, going past Revalhock.
15:47And so is Rydell in the Volvo.
15:49What's his heart up behind them?
15:53It's the wet and dry conditions that are affecting things.
15:56And John Clelland has got his hand up.
15:59But there's nobody passing in.
16:01They're touring.
16:03What's going on?
16:05Well, are they stopping the race?
16:07No, the safety car is out.
16:08That's it.
16:09The safety car's out, presumably, to get Bert's Volvo off.
16:13Now, let's have a look.
16:14Here's a replay.
16:15We're with Clelland.
16:16Bieler ahead.
16:17And bang.
16:18Bert hits him.
16:19There's the Volvo.
16:21John Clelland gathers it all up again.
16:23Keeps going.
16:24Here's another replay.
16:25Bieler there.
16:27Watch him.
16:27In the background.
16:30Bert and Clelland spin in unison.
16:34Bert goes off.
16:35Clelland goes on.
16:38And the safety car is coming in.
16:40The race is on again.
16:42Bieler leads Menuh.
16:44Clelland is third.
16:45It is go.
16:46The BMW is in fourth position.
16:49We're with Alan Menuh.
16:50Now, second place.
16:51Frank Bieler, Silver Audi ahead of us.
16:53On the way down into Cox.
16:55So, on the left.
16:57Bieler.
16:58Tight up behind him.
16:59Almost rubbing his bumper is Menuh's Renault.
17:03Round Cox.
17:03It's drying out a bit now.
17:06Look ahead.
17:06Menuh's attacking.
17:07He's passed.
17:08Bieler into the lead.
17:09John Clelland in third position.
17:11We're with him.
17:12And Winklehock goes past.
17:14In the BMW.
17:15Jerking Winklehock.
17:17The 93 champion moves up into third place.
17:19Here we are at Beckins.
17:20Menuh.
17:21Bieler.
17:22Winklehock.
17:23Renault.
17:23Audi.
17:24BMW.
17:25Through Ireland.
17:32Down the straight.
17:33And here they come.
17:34The Renault has yet to win in 1996.
17:38This could be the day.
17:40Alan Menuh ahead.
17:42We're with Winklehock in the BMW.
17:44Audi ahead.
17:45Ahead of the Audi is the Renault.
17:48Up to Bridget Prairie.
17:49And Winklehock looks as though they're going to try and get round.
17:51But Bieler holds his place.
17:54Turns into bridge.
17:55Now the left-hander of Prairie.
17:59Look how close it is.
18:00One, two, three, four, five, six of them all together.
18:03We're with Bieler again.
18:05And Menuh in the two-wheel drive.
18:07Renault is keeping the Audi behind him.
18:10And Bieler has hit something.
18:11Look at the left front corner of the Audi.
18:14Something flapping.
18:16We're with Revalia now.
18:18Looking back at Rydell's Volvo
18:20as it almost touches us.
18:24Nearly 300 horsepower.
18:26Each of these cars are pumping out.
18:28Now into Cox.
18:31That's Bieler.
18:32Back again within.
18:34The man who won at Donington.
18:35One at Brandstatt.
18:36One at Truxton.
18:37But he's second here at Silverstone.
18:40Coming down to Beckett.
18:42Chasing Alan Menuh's Renault.
18:45And right behind the Audi is Winklehock.
18:51And Bidcliffe is pushing.
18:53Bidcliffe in the silver Audi.
18:55Look at him.
18:55Pushing his way past Knellen up into fourth position.
18:58And he's done it.
18:59We're with Knellen.
19:00Fifth place.
19:01Watts goes past.
19:02And there's Revalia on the left.
19:07It looks as though John Cleland is losing two places out of Ireland.
19:12Bidcliffe wants Revalia, Cleland and Rydell together.
19:15We're looking back from Revalia and Cleland's car.
19:18Up towards Bridge.
19:19The right-hander at 140 miles an hour.
19:22Wonderful strap this is.
19:26Here's Priory.
19:27And Bieler leads.
19:29Frank Bieler passes Alan Menuh who's got Winklehock right behind him.
19:34Audi, Renault, BMW is the order now.
19:37I wonder how long he's going to stay that way.
19:45In car with Joachim Winklehock.
19:47Third position.
19:49Going for the second place that Alan Menuh in the Renault
19:51has gone ahead of him.
19:54Out of Woodcote.
19:55Down the 140 mile an hour straight into Copse.
19:58This is it.
20:00Bieler, 45.
20:03Looks as though he's got it made now.
20:07Back again with Winklehock.
20:09Up to Beckett.
20:11Watch his hand on the gear lever.
20:13It's a sequential change.
20:15Forward to change down.
20:17Back to change up.
20:18Through Ireland go the leaders.
20:20We're with Tim Harvey now and he's lost it.
20:22He's lost the Peugeot.
20:24Spin, spin.
20:25Out he goes.
20:29And he's lost the prop.
20:31He's got it going again.
20:33Rejoining at a very battered Peugeot.
20:37Look at the left front.
20:42No, he's not getting up to speed.
20:44He's getting into the graveyard because that is Bert Smallbone coming towards us a bridge.
20:50Race leader Bieler.
20:51Second menu.
20:51Third Winklehock.
20:52And Winklehock is trying to get through and pass menu.
20:58He's not only trying, he's succeeding.
21:01We're with menu and there is Winklehock's BMW in front of us.
21:04So, it's a German in an Audi leading.
21:10It's a German in a BMW second.
21:13It's a Swiss driver in the Renault third.
21:15It's an Englishman in the Audi fourth, John Binkliff.
21:21Through to the lap.
21:22That's Patrick Watts and Ricard Rydell battling for fifth position.
21:26Down to Copse, the leaders.
21:29And now Frank Bieler is inching away a bit as Watts goes through with Rydell behind him.
21:35And he's off.
21:37Patrick Watts is off.
21:38Ricard Rydell takes the place.
21:40Moves up into fifth position.
21:42And Watts is back again.
21:43Look.
21:44In the red Peugeot.
21:45And right behind Watts is John Cleland.
21:48In fact, we're in the box hall now.
21:50Let's see what he can do about the Peugeot in front of him.
21:54Patrick Watts, ex-one-make champion in several classes.
22:00Well, John Cleland seems as though he can't do anything about the Peugeot.
22:04There it is, the red car.
22:06Ricard Rydell's dragging his bumper along behind him.
22:09Cleland closes right up.
22:12Back again in the box hall.
22:15Coming up to bridge.
22:17There it is ahead of us.
22:18Tremendously quick right-hander.
22:21You don't even lift off.
22:22Rydell is sixth.
22:23Number 10 Watts is in seventh place.
22:26There's the box hall right behind him.
22:27Back again with John Cleland.
22:29Look at Rydell's bumper ahead.
22:32This is Brooklyn.
22:34Now onto Luffield, the double right-hander.
22:36John Cleland, the reigning British touring car champion, and they're completing the lap.
22:52Building up to speed.
22:53And top corner that they're approaching now is where John Cleland could go for it.
22:59Could close right up, and he's doing so.
23:01He's closing up on the Peugeot, and he's running right.
23:05Into the gravel.
23:06Out of the race goes John Cleland.
23:11Oh, we're in the gravel and cross.
23:13We're in the gravel and cross.
23:15Indeed you are, John.
23:17In the gravel.
23:18Out of the race.
23:19It says Patrick Watts.
23:20He's in the gravel too.
23:21Yes, we've seen you, John.
23:26Beckett's.
23:27And it's raining.
23:28It's raining.
23:29Look at the wipers going.
23:31It's pouring down.
23:34Now, those people who are on street cars are really going to suffer.
23:37There's Matthew Neal.
23:39He is suffering.
23:41He has gone off an abridge.
23:44The weight should be good news for the Audis.
23:47Four-wheel drive.
23:48Four-wheel grip.
23:49Turning into Priory.
23:51And Winklehock slides off.
23:53There's the proof.
23:56Flicks two-wheel drive.
23:58Off goes Winklehock.
23:59Out of second place.
24:01Joe's race is over.
24:05Just seems to have a little deluge of rain just down here.
24:10It was okay the lap before.
24:13And the two guys in front of the strabled rain.
24:17And I didn't make it.
24:18Simple as that.
24:18Just fell off.
24:20Very bad luck, John.
24:21Oh, the charigs are building.
24:23Charigs are building.
24:24Well, the rain is lashing down now.
24:26And John Binkliffe in the four-wheel drive Audi has caught Alan Menuh's two-wheel drive Renault.
24:33Look at them together as they come right off.
24:36Off goes Alan Menuh.
24:37Binkliffe goes through up into second place.
24:39Four-wheel drive scores again.
24:41Four-wheel drive scores again.
24:41We're inside with Alan Menuh because he's kept the Renault running.
24:45But he's down into third position.
24:48That's it.
24:49That's the Renault.
24:50Out of Luffield.
24:52Out of Luffield.
24:53Up to Woodcote.
24:53And look.
24:54Right behind Alan Menuh now.
24:56It's Roberto Revalia.
24:58His tyre choice is paying off.
25:01He's on Intermediance.
25:02And he's got more grip.
25:05He's got more grip in the two-wheel drive BMW than the two-wheel drive Renault in front of him.
25:11And he's going to go through on the inside and take Alan Menuh.
25:14He does it.
25:17Roberto Revalia moves up into third position.
25:21Alan Menuh goes down the fourth position.
25:23Now, can the BMW catch the Audi in front?
25:30That would be something.
25:33Well, there's Menuh.
25:35Binkliffe.
25:37Revalia is right up almost on the bumper of the Audi in front of him as they come out of Ireland.
25:43Down towards Abbey.
25:45Revalia pulls out.
25:46Goes through.
25:47Just drives straight past.
25:49Just drives straight past Binkliffe.
25:53Ah, ah.
25:55But Binkliffe is going to catch up again and go through on the inside.
25:58No, it's a left-hander.
26:00So Revalia holds the place.
26:03And the BMW is now firmly in second position.
26:07Between the two Audis.
26:09Binkliffe is third.
26:11Bela ahead is leading the race.
26:15And there he is.
26:17Frank Bela.
26:18Now, Revalia has caught Bela's teammate, John Binkliffe.
26:25Bela going through.
26:27Completing the lap.
26:28But there's a terrific strap for the privateers behind in the green and white Cavalier.
26:36That's Richard Kaye.
26:37He's catching David Leslie's Honda Accord.
26:40That's a works car.
26:41Straight past him.
26:42Thumbs up.
26:43Thanks for moving over, David.
26:45And now Kaye is trying to catch Lee Brooks, red and white.
26:50Toyota Carina.
26:52He's doing so as they go into Bridge, the right-hander.
26:56Turn left.
26:58Brooks runs wide.
26:59He's going off.
27:00So he's lost the place.
27:01Kaye moves into the lead of the privateers' contest.
27:04And Ailes goes past Brooks in the Nissan Primera.
27:10But Brooks has kept it running.
27:11So he's going to finish second, whatever happens.
27:14Richard Kaye pulling well away as Lee Brooks gets up to speed again.
27:19But something's happened.
27:20Something has happened.
27:21That is Kaye bouncing across the track.
27:24He's gone off.
27:26He's lost a lot of speed.
27:28We're in car with him now.
27:30And that means that Gary Ailes will be bearing down.
27:33There he goes.
27:33And Ailes goes past in the Nissan Primera.
27:36Now, is Lee Brooks going to be able to do the same thing as they go into Cox?
27:39No, he's not.
27:41Kaye is still leading the privateers.
27:43Brooks is still in second place.
27:46And Revalia has caught Miele.
27:49Number 21, Roberto Revalia, second in the race.
27:53He's right up behind race leader Frank Miele in the Audi Quattro.
27:58Coming up to the last lap.
28:00Down to Cox.
28:04Well, this is going to be terrific.
28:05The closing stages of this race are going to be superb.
28:08Because Revalia has just sliced his way through the field.
28:11Up into second place.
28:12He's only got the Audi in front of him now.
28:14He could win this race.
28:17And Thompson in the Vauxhall has caught Rydell and hit him.
28:23Thompson hits the Volvo.
28:24Richard Rydell swings down.
28:26They're inside the Volvo now.
28:30The Swedish driver regains at the back of his car.
28:33He's really damaged as Paul Radishitsch comes up.
28:36Paul Radishitsch in the Ford Mondeo on the left.
28:40But Rydell has gone up to speed ahead of the Ford.
28:43goes through and Frank Miele is on his last lap at bridge.
28:48Revalia behind him.
28:50It looks as though it's going to be win number five from the first eight races of the Touring
28:57Car Championship of 1996 for Frank Miele in the Audi.
29:00Because try as Roberto Revalia may.
29:05There is not enough distance in the lap left now.
29:07For him to catch up.
29:09Never mind get past Frank Miele.
29:11Because there is the last corner coming up.
29:14And you can see the gap between the Audi and the BMW.
29:17And sure enough Miele wins in the Audi to the delight of his mass mechanics.
29:24But look at this.
29:25Rydell, Radishitsch and Thompson together.
29:28Thompson going past Radishitsch.
29:31Moving up into sixth position.
29:35Rydell fifth.
29:36Thompson sixth.
29:37Radishitsch seventh.
29:40So Frank Miele exploits the changing weather and his Audi's four-wheel drive to win race
29:46two just by 2.3 seconds from the tire-wise Roberto Revalia.
29:52Yes, it was fantastic.
29:54I think we were really lucky.
29:55It started to rain in the right moment.
29:58At the right moment.
29:59And it started to dry up in the right moment.
30:01Because I think Roberto was on intermediates.
30:04And he came closer and closer when it was a bit damp.
30:07But then the circuit was drier and drier again.
30:10So I could manage to keep first position.
30:13And as if it's not wet enough, now it's champagne spray.
30:16With two superb second places, Roberto Revalia moves up to second place in the Auto Trader RAC Championship.
30:24But 36 points behind Biela.
30:27And that is a lot.
30:28And after a race-long battle, Richard Kay took two wins in the Privateers' Contest.
30:35And now he's only three points behind Lee Brooks.
30:38It's getting closer.
