00:00Hi, I'm Kelly Reilly.
00:01This is my town and country guide.
00:05You'll look directly to this.
00:06Oh, to the camera.
00:07OK.
00:12When I got offered the role, I really
00:14had not found Beth Dutton in myself.
00:16I hadn't figured out who she was.
00:18And she came off the page so powerfully to me.
00:22But I didn't know if I could pull it off.
00:24I was driving from Salt Lake City up to Montana.
00:27And it's about a seven, eight hour drive.
00:30And somewhere on that drive, on an open road,
00:33driving quite fast, there was a freedom to her that I found.
00:38And an openness to sort of life in the danger of life.
00:43That's when I sort of went, OK, I think
00:44I know where that is going in sixth gear.
00:50I had a really nice time during the hiatus.
00:53I spent a lot of time in England, where I'm from, with my family.
00:56So that was really special.
00:58Was it challenging to pick up filming?
01:00It was somewhat challenging picking up filming.
01:03But I've been playing this role and we've been working together
01:05and with the same crew and the same cast since 2017.
01:09So it's also just sort of like getting into the zone of it
01:12and just putting her back on.
01:14It was fun and I had missed her.
01:19Some of them.
01:20Is there a reason for that asterisk?
01:23Well, you don't want to listen to all of them.
01:24There's a lot of them.
01:26I think the advice that I usually take on set is from the camera people
01:31or Christina or Michael Freeman or Taylor Sheridan, whoever's the director.
01:36It's just that elevating, encouraging and always just go to where it's the edge,
01:42where you're unsure of yourself and usually is where it feels right.
01:46That's where the takes work, when you feel afraid.
01:48So you need some people to support you because sometimes you can feel unsure.
01:52So you have to have people that you trust.
01:57I don't think anybody imagined how big the show would get.
02:01The fan following was incredible and it sort of led onto the other stories, the origin stories and then onto 1923, which is so beautifully shot.
02:11There is just a tangible line through all of them.
02:13I love that detail.
02:15It's like reading a novel.
02:16Is there anything you can tell us about potential sequels?
02:19When people see the ending of this season, there may be a sort of an understanding that there is a new beginning potentially as well.
02:29So it could end perfectly where it is or the new beginning is something that's sort of intrinsically part of this ending.
02:37So both would be beautiful. I have no attachment to either one of them.
02:46I don't like fuss. I don't like having my hair and makeup done.
02:50I'm happy to disappear in character, but for myself, I want to cool out of my skin.
02:55I have one glam team member and that is my hairdresser, Tim Muir, who's also one of my best friends.
03:01And he always gives me the advice to just be myself and relax and enjoy it and don't be so stressed.
03:07And then he calls me some sort of insulting name and it's perfect.
03:10I have a same pair of old Prada boots that I have basically kept throughout all of the seasons and I love them.
03:19And they are now beaten up and I'm going to take them home as a keepsake.
03:23I used to have my dad's older, the jacket from the 70s.
03:26I think I like things that are slightly beaten up, that have a good smell, that has good texture, has a story to it.
03:32Is there an overlap between your style and Beth Dutton's?
03:35Everything about Beth is sort of premeditated, especially the earlier seasons.
03:40When she puts on a dress or a suit or a heel, it's always a sort of a weapon or there's a reason why she's wearing what she wears.
03:47I'm not like that. I just want something comfortable mostly or something that I think is beautiful.
03:52But I think some of the floral dresses that she wears with a pair of boots, that's definitely something that I've given to her.
03:59I'm not someone who's particularly fashion-oriented. I feel impressed and slightly intimidated by people who are.
04:08But I don't necessarily have that. My style is very jeans and a t-shirt with a sweater and then maybe a summer dress in the summer.
04:15And that's kind of as extravagant as I get.
04:18When I feel good about myself and what I'm wearing, it doesn't matter what it looks like. It's for myself.
04:29Montana is full of ranches where you can stay and ride and go fly fishing.
04:35And the two that I do know is the Ranch at Rock Creek, which is in the Bishroot Valley where we filmed the show.
04:41And then the other one is, oh, it's beautiful. It's called the Green O.
04:45And that's definitely, if you want a snobs guide, it's very elegant and it's these beautiful tree houses and the food is extraordinary.
04:53If you want to get away from everywhere with someone you love in somewhere magical, that's a good place to go.
04:59Get in your car and drive through Yellowstone National Park.
05:05Go look at those mountains and the nature. It's extraordinarily beautiful.
05:10It takes your breath away and it makes you feel very small.
05:13I had my honeymoon in Montana. We were riding for hours and literally just not talking, just being in the moment of this beautiful place, very peaceful.
05:22And a bald eagle just literally landed in the tree in front of us.
05:27And there's just something so humbling about being in nature out there. And I like feeling like that.
05:36Anyone who likes hiking out in nature, swimming in nature, you connect to a part of yourself that is stiller, that is less frantic, that is happier.
05:45The pace of life that we live, modern life, with our phones in our hands, constant access to everything, everyone.
05:54To be able to switch off and leave everything away for a minute whilst being in nature is incredibly powerful and healing and replenishing.
06:03So when we come back to the normal way of living that we do, we have a little bit more in the bank, if you know what I mean.
06:10Thank you for watching Town & Country and check out my cover.
