At a press briefing on Monday, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) was asked if Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) could be a potential contender to replace Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) as ranking member for the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform after he announced he’s stepping down.

00:01I wanted to just follow up on a question asked earlier about Connolly.
00:05I mean, can you speak more specifically just to the process of replacing him as ranking member of Oversight?
00:11We know that, I mean, AOC ran late last year, and should she be in contention again?
00:17So Republicans are trying to rip away health care from the American people.
00:22They're crashing the economy in real time, driving us toward a recession,
00:27targeting law-abiding immigrant families, trying to erase and whitewash American history,
00:35including black history and civil rights history.
00:39They are ending Social Security as we know it,
00:44and Jerry Connolly just announced that because he is battling the recurrence of cancer,
00:53he will not be seeking re-election.
00:55That's the extent of any comment that I'm going to make about the great Jerry Connolly at this moment.
