00:16in a tiny tight-knit arctic village is now streaming on Netflix. The show stars Ana Lam
00:21as a young woman trying to rebuild her life after exiting her marriage. She spoke to The
00:26Hollywood Reporter all about the new series. What has the viewer response been like for you
00:30since the show came out? The amount of people that have loved it and had the show really like
00:36resonate with them and you know not only loved it but felt impacted by it has been really
00:41meaningful and exciting and the response from the Indigenous community you know in general and then
00:48the response from Inuit specifically has been so special. We had shown the first two episodes in
00:54Iqadit which is where we shot and which is my hometown in December before we released on CBC
01:00in January and to hear the audience laughing, shouting out at the screen and that's been really
01:10amazing that people have just been so excited about it. Comments on the trailer for the series
01:15see viewers praise the show for being quote different compared to everything else on Netflix
01:20and something they hadn't seen before. Why do you think it's important for studios and streamers
01:24to green light shows like this one? I mean I think the response to the show has shown that people
01:28want original content they want new stories they want something that they've never seen before and
01:33you know North of North is a place that a lot of people haven't seen before or at least not in
01:39this way with so much warmth and so much laughter and brightness and so in times like we're having now
01:47where there's you know there's a lot of hardship and negativity and people are searching for something
01:55that makes them feel a bit warm makes them feel uplifted makes them feel hopeful and optimistic and
02:00and just something that makes them laugh so original content that you know hits the heart but also gives you a
02:06little giggle what what else could you ask for? Can I get a macchiato? I need to break it to you but
02:13you're not down south anymore Toto. What makes you think I'm from the south? I like the pico though. Yeah? Thanks.
02:21The response from TV critics has also been overwhelmingly positive with THR's review calling
02:27the show a warm and likable journey into Canada's icy north that feels cozy. How do you hope people feel
02:32after watching it? We really want people to watch our show and you know see the the themes and and
02:39the nuances in our communities and you know there are very real social issues that we experience and
02:44there is definitely you know trauma from colonialism within our lives and we express that through the
02:50show but we navigate that with humor and and with love and through community and being able to share
02:57that with the rest of the world is really really important and I hope people see that you know that
03:02leaning into community is is an important and a very beautiful thing and finding support within
03:08that is you know it can kind of be that that comfort that you didn't know you needed so I just really
03:16hope you know people walk away from the show or watch the show and don't feel like they you know need to
03:21pause or they're holding their breath or they finish an episode and they're like oh all right I'm gonna take
03:26an hour to myself and just kind of sit on the couch and look at a wall I just it's it's nice people watch
03:31the show and just kind of feel like uplifted by it for more on north of north go to thr.com
