Transcript
00:00governor is here now too good morning governor good morning how are you i'm great wasn't it great to
00:05listen to derek lowe yeah i mean it doesn't seem that long ago does it no um i remember last year
00:11you know the 20th anniversary and i was over at fenway and um we were gathered down below and um
00:17for the ceremony and just all the guys hanging out i mean it was as much a locker room then
00:24you know as it was back in 04 and um the bonds that he speaks of i mean it was palpable you could
00:31still feel it you know 20 years later is awesome you haven't had a chance to well you i guess you
00:36i was going to say you haven't had a chance you haven't had a chance to plan a parade but celtics
00:41parade maybe maybe you'll have another one better 19 baby right what did you think uh of that of that
00:47last night awesome okay you weren't worried about jason tatum oh last night yeah yeah i mean look
00:52it's nothing's easy yeah you know and actually i think this series is going to be more challenging
00:58than people would think right for for a first round um you know these are these are professional
01:04athletes so every game is going to be a game obviously you want uh jason to be as healthy as
01:08he can possibly be and everyone on the team to be as healthy as they can be but i mean when they're
01:13healthy they're they're unstoppable amazing team amazing group of guys prep wise sorry prep wise is it
01:20harder to plan a parade or is it harder to plan the boss of marathon well this is the nice thing
01:24about being governor you've got a mayor in a city that actually has to do all the heavy lifting and
01:28the planning so uh city did a great job last year of course we were there with state police and always
01:33happy to support um but wouldn't that be nice right if that were my problem yeah figuring out how to plan
01:39championship parades well you guys pulled off the 250th anniversary this weekend that was
01:45that was pretty good i have to tell you you know i get to do i have a lot of amazing experiences as uh
01:50as governor i think about my with pope francis's passing i think about my trip to the vatican when
01:56he invited me last year like incredible things you get to to experience that was amazing over the
02:02weekend i hope people got out um we'll be celebrating 250 all year long but you know the other day whether
02:08it's in charlestown or the north end for paul revere's ride thousands stretched that night across paul
02:14revere park and then concord in lexington you know we had tens of thousands of people out um amazing to
02:21see all the military there you know it was really cool so we had the golden knights the parachuters from
02:26um west point come and they're uh from the army come and they did this targeted landing right on the
02:33battle green and in lexington where it all went down 150 years ago then they brought out all these
02:40soldiers in the regimental uniform of the day so what the first soldier wore back in the 1700s all
02:48the way through the president and it was super cool and they did all these drills and formations and fife
02:54and drums and you know it's just this incredible display of our military history and a great great
03:00weekend of patriotism so it doesn't this is the best weekend of the year in massachusetts patriots day
03:06but to have it be on the 250th anniversary of this country you know that's what i say i give a hard
03:13time to uh to my good friends in pennsylvania uh and virginia just reminding them this is where it all
03:19began right this is it we started the revolution created america we created the nation the reenactors
03:25are incredible we need we need we need full credit for that right i know you weren't governor at the
03:31time but the way the the bombings occurred and then now what you know as someone who's been here my
03:36whole life the marathon's just so different in a good way you know obviously we wish nothing had
03:41ever happened but what is the marathon and what does today mean to you as the governor i mean the
03:46marathon's always been special another first about massachusetts we're home to many first we're also
03:51home to the first marathon annual marathon in the world and there's no marathon in the world greater
03:58than the boston marathon it's always been that way i think what changed after 2013 is that the
04:04marathon became this symbol of resilience and strength um the other day it was cool we were
04:10over in dorchester with the richard family and it was for the the uh it was for the opening essentially
04:19um with shovels in our hands because work's going to begin on the martin richard field house the boys and
04:24girls club of boston it's going to be amazing what it's going to do for kids it and it came about because
04:30of bill and denise richard's commitment and vision to making sure that the spirit of young martin lives
04:39on through the experiences of other kids and i was able to present them with 12 million dollars to help
04:46move that construction along um and it's just an example of you know the kinds of things that have come
04:52out of this uh this whole uh horrific horrific uh in 2013. i'm looking across the firehouse right now
05:00the firefighters the first responders you know volunteers you got people in medical tents lining
05:06the course the the amount of people that uh that are that are working this um is truly amazing we've got
05:13why my only concern is the uh the bikers what do they do on a day like today because the bike lanes are
05:18well wiggy would tell them to stay home stay home okay stay off stay off the roads i'll with you
05:25yeah although one thing can we get more bike lanes really i know i bring it up i'm not i bring it up to
05:32you all the time you do and i'm not i'm not in the i'm not in the bike lane camp for the city i've
05:36told you i've talked about that before you and i agree on something we do millionaires tax you haven't
05:40you haven't helped me on the millionaires tax we got a celtics team that they may not be able to
05:44pay for these guys we might have to go we might have to eliminate the millionaires tax sooner than later
05:48i know there's been talk of that look that's something that got passed uh by the voters before
05:52i became governor so you know i have cut taxes though yeah that's good yeah that's good wiggy
05:57likes that i'm hoping we get like mississippi and you completely say no more state
06:04well we're we are really focused on uh on trying to jive down costs here mostly by a lot of it by
06:10building more housing you know you got to make housing less expensive but you were awesome day
06:14though i got to tell you because this is such a moving day like 127 countries represented people
06:19from all 50 states right like the stories everything it's an it's an awesome day so if you can get out
06:25to the course somewhere 20 runners over 80 years old 20 runners over 80 isn't that amazing yeah
06:30talking about making you feel like crap yeah uh the last time you were on we were at the uh the
06:36faneuil hall sam adams and i you were talking about you know needing to get people to stay in
06:41massachusetts we have a new ownership group potentially with the celtics is it possible
06:47to build a basketball facility in the greater boston area because everybody we talked to
06:54says it's like you know redoing the the pyramids in egypt there's no chance
07:00yeah uh big news right uh change in ownership and um you know it's it's it's we'll see what they do
07:07right it's it's up to them in terms of what they do i think the relationship with td garden and
07:12delaware north has been a good one they've worked that out very well i think that the organizations
07:16have gotten along very well over the years what's to come that'll be for them to decide um you know
07:21one thing i do think would be worth considering though is what we could do with a wmba team imagine
07:28if we had wmba team we we've got women's pro sports and and um in hockey and soccer and basketball
07:35in there's a lot of interest in women's sports right now and i think it'd be really cool to have
07:40a women's professional sports complex right somewhere like they've built out in some other
07:44cities so i don't know isn't donnie walberg and a couple of guys trying to get a wmba yeah there's
07:50a there's a group there's a few different groups out there um obviously you know connecticut's got the
07:54sun and that's you know in in the same market so but i just think that there's a there's a real
07:59interest there and um you know it could be a real draw but we'll see regardless um you know i'll be
08:05rooting for wherever they play whoever owns them will you know we'll be rooting for the celtics
08:10especially especially as they come down the stretch here the next eight weeks you have ceremonial duties
08:16today you have to do you have to place the wreath or the what do they call that yeah it's it's um
08:22i don't know is it the wreath it's it's it's for the men's winter yeah and uh it's one of the most
08:29nerve-wracking things i have had to do as governor yeah honestly you know um because it's probably not
08:35real real plants real foliage it's probably like well it's gold leaf i i don't know how they make it
08:41but it's it's this beautiful wreath it's very delicate these little gold leaf leaves yeah and you
08:46have to carefully place it on the head of the winner and just pray that you don't place it in a way
08:51that it goes you know right down on that well greg actually does it greg does it for the last
08:56place finisher we can practice right my thing all right well thanks for stopping by it's great um
09:03it's great to see you and uh any other curtis was there any other i think we covered everything
09:08we want the millionaire's tax gone well that's a new problem i'm nowhere near less bike lanes
09:14we're trying to figure out housing housing rent rent issues state tax always stop there
09:19wiki wants no wiki wants no taxes so if you work new hampshire can do it we're better than
09:24new hampshire why can't we do it oh what about one what about where do you stand on the audit like
09:28the speaking of things that voters voted for yeah just let it just be done with it i'm tired of
09:33talking about it honestly you know i mean the voters decided just can't you just tell the legislature to
09:39do it uh uh i don't know how that works doesn't really work that way but they're working but you
09:47want them to do it like the people voted for you want them to do it yeah i wanted to go through and
09:52just be and just be done with it i mean so we'll just look but there there are other issues out there
09:59right yeah i gotta work on i go to work on i gotta focus on cost driving down costs for heating you know
10:03electricity health care and uh and building building more housing but you know we're we're great state
10:09there's a lot going for us no doubt a lot of challenges we got but you know i think is
10:13evidenced by this event when we work together there's nothing we can't do and you know i'm uh
10:17it's nice to be uh it's nice to be hopeful this morning right isn't it nice to talk about goods
10:21i love talking about these things it is it's like some some people suggest you may run for president
10:26all right no no no no okay all right i'm just doing all i can to uh do my best to try to be uh
10:35try to be governor here are you gonna start a podcast that's a new hip thing for governor
