00:00Hi, I'm John Pritchard from the Yorkshire Post and this Easter Monday I am bringing you the news
00:04that Pope Francis has died aged 88. His death comes less than 24 hours after he made a public
00:11appearance at the Vatican on Easter Sunday where he was seen in a wheelchair. He had been suffering
00:17from pneumonia earlier this year and made his first public appearance after overcoming the issue
00:22on April 6th. But just over two weeks later, Carmelengo Cardinal Kevin Farrell said in a
00:28statement that he had died shortly after 7.30am this morning. In a quote, the Cardinal said
00:34his entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and of his church. He taught us to live
00:40the values of the gospel with faithfulness, courage and universal love, especially for the poorest and
00:46most marginalised. The next steps in the election of a new Pope will see what is known as a conclave
00:52formed. The election is held in strict secrecy inside the Christiane Chapel, famously painted
00:59by Michelangelo. Smoke appears twice a day from burning the Cardinal's ballot papers. If it is
01:05black it means no decision has been made, while white signals a new Pope has been elected.
