00:00And we'll kick start this edition with some news just coming in.
00:04This has got to do with the Vice President of the United States, J.D. Vance and family to arrive in Delhi shortly.
00:11It's a meeting between the Vice President of America and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
00:16Tariff and trade talks as we know is on top of the agenda.
00:20Usha Vance's first visit to India is the second lady.
00:24Posters of J.D. Vance put up in parts of Delhi to welcome him here.
00:30I'm going straight across to my colleague Shashank for the very latest on that.
00:34Shashank, an important visit, a very, very high-profile visit by the U.S. Vice President today.
00:39You know, take us through the details. It's a four-day trip, of course.
00:42This also includes a personal, you know, time for some personal work that J.D. Vance and family have slotted.
00:48But an all-important meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi today.
00:52Take us through the itinerary and what's on top of the agenda.
00:54Well, from our expectations, Neha, the Vice President and his family are going to land in India around 10 a.m.
01:01After that, they're going to be, of course, welcomed by a union minister.
01:04And then they move into some personal engagements.
01:07They're going to Akshar Dham, of course, which is the temple that is, of course, very, very famous across India,
01:12not very far from where you and I are sitting at this point in time.
01:14Of course, he's also expected to go shopping for handicrafts across New Delhi in some markets.
01:22He then moves into a set of key meetings, including with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, around 6.30 p.m.
01:28That's the expectation.
01:29And he's not in Delhi for a very long time.
01:31So once these key meetings are wrapped up, he moves on really to the cultural and familial aspect of his visit here.
01:37He has to go to Jaipur and Agra.
01:38He's going to Jaipur tomorrow and he's also going to be giving a big speech there in the afternoon about, of course, the India-U.S. relationship,
01:48after which, of course, he also heads off to Agra.
01:50So really, from what we're hearing, the idea is really that this is also as much a family trip for the Vance family
01:57to introduce their children to India, to their mother's Indian heritage.
02:02And they thought this was a good opportunity.
02:04But, of course, it also comes with a significant foreign policy and political component
02:08because, of course, a big meeting with Prime Minister Modi to discuss really the key agenda points of the India-U.S. relationship technology.
02:14There's supposed to be a new technology initiative announced between India and the United States during J.D. Vance's visit.
02:19Also, of course, the ongoing trade war, as you were mentioning.
02:21Also, some other issues reviewing the progress on the India-U.S. relationship since Prime Minister Modi went to America in February this year.
02:29You know, Shashank, be with us.
02:30We'll talk about that big story in a moment from now, telling you all about J.D. Vance.
02:34Yes. Any time to land in Delhi is what we know Trump's deputy in Delhi today in India.
02:42U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance is on a four-day visit to the country.
02:45He will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
02:48The U.S. Vice President, his wife, Usha, and their three children, will be here at 10 this morning
02:53and will be accompanied, welcomed on the arrival by a senior union minister.
02:58Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be hosting a dinner for the U.S. Vice President and Indian Origins Second Lady,
03:04Usha, on Monday evening after holding talks with the American leader that has set a focus on trade, tariff, and several key issues.
03:12Also, after arriving in Delhi, Vance and his family are scheduled to visit the Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple,
03:17right very close to where we are at this point in time.
03:21They could also go to a shopping complex selling traditional Indian handicraft goods.
03:26Then, on the 22nd and 23rd of April, which is tomorrow and the after,
03:31the Vance family is scheduled to visit heritage sites in Jaipur and Agra as well.
03:36U.S. Vice President, J.D. Vance, and Second Lady, Usha Vance, will be visiting Swami Narayan Mandar here in the national capital
03:45and keeping the visit in the mind.
03:47The security situation has been tightened here behind me in the visuals.
03:51You can see how barricading has been done and as well as paramilitary forces and Delhi police personnel have been deployed here
03:58and this will be J.D. Vance's first India visit and it will be seen that after landing at Palam Airport,
04:04J.D. Vance is expected to visit here Swaminarayan Temple and after that, in the evening,
04:10a meeting with Prime Minister Modi is scheduled where they will be discussing bilateral trades and other international issues.
04:16But this visit will be an opportunity for Vance family to explore India's temple, stunning architecture,
04:24as well as India's cultural heritage.
04:28with cameraman Manish Vidhudi, Anmol Bali, Delhi.
04:32We expect her to come to this village to see her ancestors' temple and other lands.
04:41We eagerly wait for her arrival.
04:44It is better if she will come.
04:46We all, residents of Vardaluru, eagerly waiting to greet her on this occasion.
04:52Look, this tour, it's not only coming from Gomdei's direction.
04:57There are tariffs and some things are discussed.
05:00And I think that in the moment, for us, it will grow up for America from Bhaarat and they will grow up for America.
05:10All right, the big story at this hour, the U.S. Vice President in India today,
05:17and it's a four-day visit like our reporters have been telling us.
05:20Karishma also continues to be with us this morning,
05:23and Shashank Matu, of course, tracking those key developments.
05:27You know, first to you, Shashank, again,
05:29talk to us about, you know, the key details of what is going to be on the table
05:36as far as discussions between the U.S. government and India is concerned.
05:41This, of course, is a high-stakes visit,
05:43given the kind of tensions we've seen over the last few weeks or so over tariffs,
05:49which, of course, affects India adversely as well.
05:52So what is going to be India's point of view?
05:55Tell us more.
05:57Well, I think, Senea, the important thing to remember here is,
05:59from the Indian perspective, we have to understand how they're looking at J.D. Vance.
06:02J.D. Vance, of course, is being seen as a trusted lieutenant of the president
06:05on issues related to foreign policy.
06:08He was sent to deliver a very tough message to the Europeans
06:10at the Munich Security Conference just a couple of months ago.
06:13He's just coming from Italy as well, another significant foreign visit.
06:16There are reports in the U.S. media that, in fact,
06:18he may be deputed by President Donald Trump to handle some of the tariff issues,
06:22particularly the incoming trade war that you're seeing with China.
06:26So again, J.D. Vance is someone who, month by month,
06:28seems to be accruing more influence in the Trump administration,
06:30and that's what India is looking for in terms of another pathway,
06:34another through line to President Trump in the White House to push for India's perspective
06:39and to help understand where the India-U.S. relationship is going.
06:42So developing J.D. Vance as someone who understands how important the India-U.S. partnership is,
06:46is important from that perspective.
06:48But yes, you're absolutely right.
06:49The trade conflict is definitely going to be on the agenda,
06:52particularly, as I said, because of reports that J.D. Vance actually might be stepping into
06:56a much more expansive and important role when it comes to handling America's policy on these issues.
07:01There's also going to be, of course, conversations on technology.
07:04There have been some concerns about how the Trump administration is going to handle technology.
07:07The Biden administration was willing, of course, to work very, very closely with India on high technologies,
07:12whether the Trump administration would do this.
07:14We have a new initiative called Trust that is supposed to take the Biden administration's work forward.
07:19That is expected to be unveiled.
07:21And you're also going to, I think, have a general discussion of other key foreign policy priorities,
07:25trying to, for example, understand where America stands on key issues like China,
07:29also on broader foreign policy priorities around the world.
07:33So absolutely, it is going to be a key visit.
07:36But the key takeaway I would love to leave our viewers with is just this idea that J.D. Vance is really,
07:42as you were mentioning, Donald Trump's key lieutenant, his key deputy,
07:45taking on more responsibility.
07:46And India wants to develop him as someone who understands how important the India-U.S. relationship is.
07:50Be with us.
07:51I'm just going to come back to you in a moment from now.
07:52Shashank Mattu getting asked those details.
07:54Karishma also continues to be with us.
07:57A little about what's on J.D. Vance's agenda, as he, in fact, is about to land in Delhi today.
08:03Evaluation of Indo-U.S. trade talks.
08:05It's, in fact, number one as far as the agenda is concerned.
08:09The meet, fall, deadline for trade deal.
08:13That is also something that is going to figure in the talks.
08:16Of course, trade deal, regional security top goals and global developments of mutual interest.
08:22Strengthening overall bilateral ties between both the nations.
08:27Of course, these are things that will be discussed, threadbare, between both the leaders.
08:32But Karishma is also with us.
08:34Karishma, we know, and like Shashank has been telling us,
08:37that the concerns here are about, you know, further cooperation when it comes to both the countries,
08:42as far as the trade talks are concerned.
08:44A bit of a limbo here, as far as the imposition of tariffs is concerned,
08:47given the stance that the U.S. government has essentially taken.
08:51Of course, worrying India to a great extent.
08:54You can hear me.
09:07I was asking you about the fact that trade restructuring is something that would be looked at.
09:12Indo-Pacific cooperation, global supply chain resilience,
09:16all of these are issues that would be discussed today.
09:19Well, absolutely right, Sneha.
09:24In fact, these are just a couple of them.
09:28And the main focus is going to be clearly on the bilateral trade ties.
09:32If you see that the 90-day rebate that we have got is something that is just temporary relief.
09:40But what has to be awaited on a future roadmap of how India and U.S. see their relationship?
09:47And J.D. Wance and his family's visit to India only kind of reiterates this,
09:53that how are we going to take this trade relationship forward?
09:57Let's not forget that India's Commerce Ministry is confident of the fact that India has had a first-mover advantage.
10:02And among all the other countries that you see, we actually are still on the first-mover advantage
10:08because we have a high-end official, the Vice President of the United States of America, visiting us to talk.
10:14And it definitely hints quite...
10:18It's a green signal for a lot of aspects.
10:21But the negotiations will still require deep discussions to see what comes out of this.
10:28India is looking to actually reduce its trade deficit, surplus deficit with U.S.,
10:35which is also a sign that India is prepared for both the good and bad side of it,
10:40the good that maybe J.D. Wance's visit could turn out beneficial for them.
10:45And if it doesn't, then India is looking to also find its alternative sources.
10:49Well, absolutely. These are details that Karishma is sharing with us as far as the visit of J.D. Wance to India is concerned.
10:59You know, Shashank, this visit is extremely symbolic, as it is Swedishic, isn't it?
11:04It's also got to do with the fact that the Second Lady has got a deep India connection.
11:09This is about shared heritage.
11:11This is also about India's soft power, essentially, on display.
11:15Like, clearly, it's not purely about just shared diplomacy.
11:19This visit is also deeply personal, and that makes it all the more important, isn't it?
11:24You're absolutely right.
11:25I think the fact that they've taken their family along for this visit,
11:28particularly, you know, taking them to Jaipur and Agra,
11:31everything we're hearing from the American side, for example,
11:33does seem to indicate that this is really a culture and family trip as much as it is a strategic visit.
11:39We know that, of course, there are meetings with Prime Minister Modi and a dinner for J.D. Wance to interact with top leaders.
11:45But really, after that, it's an event that's packed with events for the Wance family
11:51to introduce their three children to Indian culture, to the culture of their mother, Usha Wance,
11:56for her first visit as a Second Lady to India.
12:00So, again, an important visit, of course, for also building that personal connect
12:03with someone who is very likely to be a very significant politician in America in the future.
12:09You know, vice presidents in America do have this tendency of becoming president at some point in time.
12:14And, of course, having that personal relationship, as well as that political, professional relationship,
12:19is something that India is going to be looking at building with J.D. Wance during his four-day visit here.
12:24We will come back to you and to Karishma in a moment from now.
12:28Both our reporters talking to us about how important this visit is
12:32from the point of view of recent developments vis-a-vis trade tariffs,
12:35which has intensified the global trade war.
12:38But what's India's leverage point here?
12:40We'll talk about that in much more in a moment from now.
12:43But a look at this report on how important and symbolic is this meeting.
12:47Remember, the Second Lady has Indian origins.
12:50U.S. Vice President is in India with his entire family.
12:54This trip like we've been telling you isn't just about business, about tariffs.
12:58It's also about a personal connection.
13:02A look at this report.
13:03The second most powerful man in Washington is heading to India.
13:15And he's bringing the whole family along.
13:19U.S. Vice President J.D. Wance and his wife, Usha Wance,
13:23the first Indian-American second lady and their children,
13:26will begin a four-day visit to India on April 21st.
13:30The Wance's will land in New Delhi, starting with a visit to the iconic Red Fort.
13:38J.D. Wance will meet National Security Advisor Ajit Doval,
13:42External Affairs Minister S.J. Shankar, and BJP President J.P. Nadda.
13:47He's also scheduled for a key sit-down with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
13:51There will be a formal dinner hosted by the Prime Minister for the entire second family.
13:57On April 22nd, the Wance's head to Jaipur to take in the pink city's historic charm,
14:03followed by a stop in Agra to visit the Taj Mahal.
14:07But behind the heritage and sightseeing lies serious business.
14:11J.D. Wance arrives amid rising global economic tensions and Trump's aggressive tariff policies.
14:19Trade talks are expected to be the top agenda,
14:23especially efforts to push forward the long-delayed India-U.S. trade pact
14:27covering tariffs, supply chains and market access.
14:32Wance's team says the visit is about aligning economic goals and boosting strategic cooperation.
14:38This is J.D. Wance's first official trip to India and it is deeply personal,
14:44making this visit part diplomacy, part homecoming.
14:49U.S. Second Lady Usha Wance has roots in Vedluru, a small village in Andhra Pradesh.
14:55They want to introduce their children to India during the visit.
15:00Bureau Report, India Today Global.
15:02Also, let's tell you a little about the second lady, Usha Chilukuri Vance.
15:11Born in San Diego to Indian immigrant parents, she traces her origins to Andhra Pradesh.
15:18Usha's father is a mechanical engineer from IIT Madras, graduated from Yale University,
15:26served as a law clerk for multiple federal judges, and she married J.D. Wance in the year 2014.
15:37Shashank continues to be with us and so does Karishma.
15:40Shashank, you know, tell us a little about the kind of leverage that you think India would have
15:47in these discussions when it comes to trade, when it comes to tariffs,
15:51and also the signing of an India-U.S. trade deal, the early signing of a deal, very much on the cards.
16:07So you're right, there is absolutely a very, very key demand from both sides to push this bilateral trade agreement forward.
16:14Really by September this year is what we're hearing.
16:17You're also going to likely see an early harvest deal where the two countries really sit down with each other,
16:21clear some very important proposals in terms of easing market access for each other
16:25so that you have an early harvest, an early agreement between the two sides,
16:29and then a more comprehensive bilateral agreement later in the year.
16:33But what India really has, of course, going for it is that it understands it is a strategic partner for the United States.
16:38It understands that America wants market access.
16:41It also wants market access to particular segments of the U.S. economy.
16:45And so, of course, there's going to be that back and forth, that give and take that is going on in the bilateral negotiations.
16:51But, of course, India will also have its concerns in terms of ensuring that those reciprocal tariffs don't kick back in again.
16:57And pushing that agenda and communicating the importance of that is something that is obviously going to come up
17:02between Prime Minister Modi and J.D. Vance when it comes to their big meeting.
17:06But absolutely what we know at this point in time is that America is pushing for a broad trade agreement
17:13that, of course, goes sector by sector and, of course, really liberalizes trade between the two countries.
17:18India is hoping for something slightly more limited, slightly that protects, of course,
17:22some of its smaller industries, particularly agriculture.
17:24So you're having that back and forth.
17:25But everything we've heard from top officials so far seems to suggest that talks are going well.
17:29Treasury Secretary Scott Besson has mentioned that talks are going well,
17:32as have other senior top officials.
17:35So, so far, there is no reason to believe that talks have gone off the rails in any way.
17:40Of course, India has not retaliated to American tariffs as well.
17:42So that, again, has set a much more positive tone for India-U.S. trade talks,
17:46which are being carried forward even as we speak.
17:48Absolutely. Be with us, Shashank.
17:50I'm just going to come back to you in a moment from now.
17:52Shivani is also with us for the very latest on that.
17:55Shivani, talk to us about defence procurements and what's going to be expected
17:59as far as the discussions around that aspect of this conversation is concerned.
18:06See, this meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and J.B. Raj
18:09is going to be very important.
18:11And this is a comprehensive meeting, not only with the defence,
18:15but also with the Paris, the treatment for which India and the United States
18:18are within the head.
18:19And in terms of the defence also,
18:21there are a number of deals that are in pipeline with the United States,
18:25the MP9 zone that has been finalised from the United States for the Indian babies.
18:33And apart from that, we also share a strong defence partnership
18:37because a number of exercises happen together
18:40and a number of naval exercises that happen together.
18:43And other deals also, remember when J.B. Raju Narendra Modi had gone to America,
18:47India, an approval and a proposal, in fact, was made about the F-35 fighters.
18:55So India and the United States are working together to strengthen the defence side,
19:00the diplomatic side.
19:01A very important fact out here is about the tariffs.
19:05As we see the tariff war is going on,
19:08and India has been working together with the United States to work
19:10and to find a solution, in fact, and find a middle part,
19:16like the trade agreement.
19:19So both the countries are working together.
19:20So this particular visit by the United States,
19:23the Vice President will be very important.
19:25We will be landing in Parliament around at 10 o'clock,
19:29and then we will be visiting after the Hampton,
19:30we will go into the art gallery,
19:32we will be meeting,
19:33Khamish Narendra Modi,
19:34a very important bilateral.
19:36So a very important meeting.
19:38And the whole nation is looking forward,
19:42and not only for India,
19:43but globally also it will be very important
19:45to kind of look out for India.
19:47Absolutely.
19:49You know, Karishma,
19:50India is a close partner for the US of bilateral trade,
19:52you know, FDIs as well,
19:54like Shivani was saying,
19:55even defence cooperation.
19:57And that's the reason why this is an opportunity
19:59for both countries to strengthen their bilateral ties
20:03vis-a-vis the economic cooperation as well, isn't it?
20:05Absolutely.
20:08And it actually gives me a little deja vu nostalgia
20:12of when the former UK President,
20:15Prime Minister Rishi Sunak,
20:18along with his wife,
20:19had visited India.
20:20And I want to come back to what Shashank was saying,
20:24that besides the political, bilateral, economic,
20:29and the global relations that we shared
20:31with the United States of America,
20:33I think it is more of an emotional and cultural aspect
20:35that the country is looking forward to host
20:39the vice president and his wife,
20:43who comes from an Indian origin,
20:45comes from the south of India, Andhra Pradesh.
20:47I think this is going to carry a lot of importance
20:51also on the talking table,
20:53on the negotiating table,
20:55because you see it is the cultural influence
20:57that could add on to some kind of smooth takeoff
21:03and cushioning when it comes to the stringent trade talks
21:06that we have been doing.
21:07Well, absolutely.
21:08These are details that we have with us
21:10as far as this important high-profile visit is concerned.
21:13Of course, defense on the agenda as well,
21:15defense procurement on the agenda,
21:17like Shivani is telling us.
21:18You know, Trump, essentially,
21:21the ties that he shares with the prime minister as well,
21:24the U.S. President Shashank,
21:26also gives India, you know,
21:28enough legroom in that sense,
21:30enough elbow room in that sense
21:32to strengthen the, you know,
21:34relationship between both the countries
21:35vis-a-vis this visit.
21:37Like we've been talking about,
21:39this is not just about diplomacy,
21:40this is not just about what's to be delivered,
21:43what are the deliverables,
21:44but also a very personal meeting of J.D. Vance
21:48and the prime minister.
21:50Isn't it given that in the past as well,
21:52they've met the prime minister's gestures
21:54towards its family have been extremely warm?
21:59No, absolutely.
22:00I think that's something we have to understand,
22:02I think, about how the Trump administration
22:04does business is that it's highly personal
22:06in its style of functioning.
22:09You know, we know that Donald Trump
22:10is not someone who, of course,
22:11he relies on his bureaucrats very much in advice.
22:13He relies on people he's hired, people he trusts,
22:15people he has a long-standing relationship with.
22:17And increasingly, we've seen J.D. Vance
22:19take up that role of becoming a key lieutenant
22:21for Donald Trump on really delivering
22:24tough messages to Europe,
22:25going off to Italy,
22:27going off to Greenland
22:28on that crucial diplomatic mission
22:30on behalf of President Trump.
22:32And of course, now he is here in India.
22:34So we've seen him take on more and more
22:36of a key diplomatic role.
22:38We also know that he is someone
22:39who likely also has presidential ambitions himself.
22:42So again, really a very significant figure
22:43and it's likely to be a significant figure
22:45in American politics.
22:46But again, coming back to Trump
22:47and the Trump administration,
22:48Donald Trump listens to people
22:50in the close circle around him.
22:52So, you know, a word here and there
22:53from trusted advisors
22:54does really shape his perspective
22:55on particular countries and particular issues.
22:57And I think that's what India
22:58is going to be very, very clear on.
23:01It's looking to build that personal relationship
23:03with J.D. Vance,
23:05also that professional relationship,
23:06because it understands that in a crucial moment,
23:08you know, J.D. Vance has that ability
23:10to go to Donald Trump
23:11and basically advise him one way
23:13or the other, say that,
23:14look, I saw this in India.
23:15This is what the Prime Minister Modi said to me.
23:18And in crucial moments,
23:19India is counting on the fact
23:20that that does actually hold a lot of weight
23:22for Donald Trump.
23:23He's a person who goes off personal relationships.
23:25And so adding with his friendship
23:26with Prime Minister Modi,
23:28adding with Trump's friendship
23:29with Prime Minister Modi,
23:30we also want to add to the equation
23:31J.D. Vance's potential friendship
23:33with Prime Minister Modi
23:34and his connection with India more generally.
23:36So again, it's a good opportunity for India
23:38to really establish one,
23:40to really create one more ally,
23:42one more senior presidential figure
23:45who I think understands India's priorities
23:47when it comes to America,
23:48understands India well,
23:49and that's always an asset to have
23:51in the White House.
23:52Absolutely.
23:52Shashank, an important point that you make.
23:54I'm going to ask you,
23:55Karishma and Shivani,
23:57to continue to be with us.
23:58It's a big development
23:59we're tracking at this hour.
24:00Remember, at 10, J.D. Vance,
24:02the U.S. Vice President lands in Delhi
24:04and on the agenda,
24:06defence procurement,
24:07not just that,
24:08of course,
24:08the economic ties
24:09that would be discussed
24:10and the possibility
24:11of a bilateral trade agreement.
24:14Tariffs are undoubtedly
24:16really on top of the agenda
24:18given the kind of concerns
24:19that both sides
24:20have had over the past.
24:22And we have more news coming in.
24:24It's a letter of plea
24:24in the Supreme Court
24:25against BJP MP Nishikhan Dube.
24:28The plea urges the Apex Court
24:30to take cognizance
24:31of Dube's remarks.
24:32Plea seeks criminal contempt case.
24:34On Dube,
24:35BJP MP claims
24:36Supreme Court's
24:37double standards
24:38and controversial comments
24:39that it made.
24:40MP had said
24:41Supreme Court
24:42is fanning
24:42a knocky religion war.
24:45BJP, however,
24:46seems to have
24:46distanced itself
24:47from Nishikhan Dube's comments.
24:51Rejects Dube's remarks.
24:58This has got to do
24:59with the comment
24:59that Nishikhan Dube
25:00BJP MP had made.
25:02Talking about
25:04Supreme Court's
25:05essentially double standards
25:07is the word
25:08that he used.
25:10Fanning anarchy,
25:11religion war
25:12is what the court causes
25:14is what Nishikhan Dube
25:15had said.
25:16BJP has distanced itself
25:18from these very
25:19controversial remarks
25:20that Nishikhan Dube
25:21has made.
25:22This matter
25:23is now in court.
25:24The criticism
25:27of the Supreme Court
25:28in fact
25:29comes at a time
25:31when the BJP
25:32has distanced itself
25:34from the MP's comments.
25:38This was a jab
25:39that Nishikhan Dube
25:40had taken
25:41talking about
25:42the Apex Court's
25:43so-called
25:44double standards
25:45quote-unquote.
25:46Now,
25:46there is a plea
25:47before the Apex Court
25:48which has got to do
25:50with this comment
25:52that Nishikhan Dube
25:53had made.
25:54Sanjay Sharma
25:55is getting in
25:56more details
25:56at this point
25:57in time.
25:58Sanjay,
25:58this is a complete
25:59case in Supreme Court
26:00and this is a plea.
26:02This is a plea
26:03because this is
26:05criminal contempt
26:06case
26:07is on the Dube
26:09on the Dube.
26:10Yes,
26:11there is now
26:12one letter
26:16petition
26:16and
26:17the Attorney
26:18General
26:18has
26:19two letters
26:20sent
26:21which
26:21has said
26:22that
26:23they
26:24will
26:24give
26:25them
26:25so that
26:26Nishikhan
26:27Dube
26:27can
26:28start
26:28criminal
26:30content
26:30process
26:31.
26:53letter petition chief justice
26:55के नाम लिखा है और जर्जों के नाम
26:57जिसमें उन्होंने कहा है कि
26:58निशिकान दूबे ने
27:00Supreme Court
27:18Supreme Court intervene
28:33In fact, Marjit Meyman of the NCP
28:35is also with us
28:37Marjit Meyman, how do you look at these comments
28:39that have been made by Nishikaan Dubey
28:41also I want to ask you that right now
28:43there is a plea which is urging the Apex
28:45Court to take cognizance of these
28:47controversial remarks that the BJP MP
28:49Nishikaan Dubey has made
28:51You see, people like
28:53Nishikaan Dubey seem to be having
28:56some kind of education at least
28:57they are not roadside people, they are responsible
29:00people, they are elected representative
29:02who, behind whom
29:03lots of people, you know
29:06expect that
29:08they would do justice to them
29:10Now if these people start
29:12behaving in the manner as
29:14Mr. Dubey has done it
29:16it's a matter of great
29:17regret, it's a shameful
29:20thing that you speak direct
29:22against the Honourable Chief Justice of India
29:24and make all kinds of insinuations
29:26against him
29:27How dare you could do that
29:29You see, people should be
29:31given a kind of a lesson
29:33that those who are in higher
29:34positions, those who are
29:36in power
29:37must exercise the same
29:39What does he mean?
29:41Now, the Honourable Vice President
29:43of India is no less
29:44He has been saying that the
29:47Parliament is taken over by the
29:49Supreme Court
29:51Please understand
29:53what is the democratic
29:55structure of our country?
29:56What is the mandate of
29:58constitution?
29:59If the government
30:00or the
30:01Parliament
30:02does something
30:03which is anti-constitution
30:05or which clashes
30:06with the
30:07basic provisions
30:08of the constitution
30:09the courts are there
30:11to correct them
30:11and the court
30:13would be the last word
30:14Not that
30:15you see
30:15you would say
30:16that since
30:17we are in the
30:18Parliament
30:18we are in the government
30:19you know
30:20we would not care
30:21for the courts
30:22if that position
30:24is accepted
30:24Mr. Dubey would know
30:26that there would be
30:27chaos in the society
30:28and people
30:29of any
30:31ideas
30:32any thoughts
30:33you know
30:34would start
30:34ruling the country
30:36which would create
30:37a disaster
30:37So Mr. Dubey
30:39must restrain
30:40from making
30:41such comments
30:42and he should
30:42tender an apology
30:44before the court
30:45wakes up
30:45and takes any
30:46action against him
30:47That's right
30:48You know
30:48I want to ask you
30:49Majid Premin
30:49because
30:50you've been both
30:51a parliamentarian
30:52and also you
30:53you wear a legal hat
30:55as well
30:55as a senior advocate
30:56talk to us
30:57a little about
30:58the checks and balances
30:59that our democracy
31:00is ensured
31:01for all of us
31:02That's the reason
31:03why there is a role
31:04of the executive
31:05of the legislature
31:06of the judiciary
31:07this is
31:09oh alright
31:09we'll in fact
31:10go back to Majid
31:11Memin in a moment
31:11from now
31:12but we are telling
31:13you about
31:14this controversy
31:15that has been
31:16now
31:16that has started
31:18rather
31:19after Nishikan Dubey
31:20made those
31:21controversial comments
31:22Now what
31:23has happened
31:24is that an advocate
31:25has sought
31:25contempt action
31:26against the MP
31:27in question here
31:28Nishikan Dubey
31:29for comments
31:30against the
31:31Supreme Court
31:32essentially
31:32The MP
31:33had taken a swipe
31:34at the Chief Justice
31:36of India
31:36holding him
31:38responsible
31:38for so-called
31:39civil wars
31:40in the country
31:41Amid
31:50Executive
31:51versus
31:51Judiciary
31:52showdown
31:52BJP's
31:53posted a video
31:54of Indira
31:55Gandhi
31:56slamming
31:57Judiciary
31:57Indira Gandhi
31:58in the video
31:58says
31:59Judges can't
32:00dictate economy
32:01Earlier
32:01MP
32:02Nishikan Dubey
32:04had hit out
32:05at the Supreme
32:06Court
32:06and spoken
32:07about the
32:07Anarchy
32:08Push
32:08All right
32:33we are going
32:33back to our
32:34top focus story
32:35today that is
32:35that of the
32:36US Vice
32:36President
32:37JD Vance
32:38who is arriving
32:39in India
32:40Pictures are
32:40from the
32:41Parliament
32:41where the
32:42Union Minister
32:44would be
32:45receiving
32:45JD Vance
32:47Vice President
32:48who is in
32:49India today
32:50along with his
32:50entire family
32:51including
32:52second lady
32:53Usha
32:54Chilukuri
32:54Vance
32:54of the Indian
32:55origin
32:56with his
32:56children
32:57wife
32:58JD Vance
32:59the US
32:59Vice President
33:00is in
33:01the country
33:02his visit
33:03to India
33:04marks his
33:05first official
33:06trip to the
33:06country
33:06has been
33:07here before
33:07as well
33:08this of course
33:09has added
33:09significance
33:10for the
33:11second family
33:13his wife
33:14a practicing
33:14Hindu
33:15daughter
33:16of immigrants
33:17from
33:17Andhra Pradesh
33:18JD Vance
33:20like I mentioned
33:21is going to be
33:22accompanied
33:22by Usha
33:24his wife
33:24their children
33:25and other
33:25senior members
33:26of the US
33:27administration
33:28the couple
33:29will be going
33:30to cities
33:31like Jaipur
33:32also
33:33will be going
33:34to Taj Mahal
33:35in Agra
33:35and participate
33:37in engagements
33:38at cultural
33:38sites
33:39is what the
33:40White House
33:40has said
33:41but on top
33:42of the agenda
33:43and as far as
33:44deliverables
33:45are concerned
33:46here's what
33:47is expected
33:48defence procurement
33:50possibility
33:51of purchase
33:53of 5th generation
33:54stealth fighter jets
33:55from the US
33:56trade talks
33:57on top of the
33:58agenda
33:58pictures from
34:03the Parliament
34:04airport right
34:04now
34:05where you can
34:06see in fact
34:07the plane
34:08landing at this
34:09point in time
34:10a ceremonial
34:11welcome for
34:11US Vice
34:13President
34:13JD Vance
34:14who is in
34:15India along
34:15with his wife
34:16and children
34:17it's going to
34:17be a personal
34:18as well as
34:19important strategic
34:21visit as well
34:23to strengthen
34:23ties between
34:24both the
34:25countries
34:26the US
34:26and India
34:28on the agenda
34:40US and India
34:41would be
34:42discussing the
34:43possibility of
34:43signing a
34:44bilateral trade
34:45agreement which
34:46would give in
34:46fact a sense of
34:47stability to both
34:49sides a sense of
34:50security about what
34:51to expect of each
34:52other given the
34:54new tariffs that
34:55have been imposed
34:56by the United
34:57States
34:58economic cooperation
35:01is what is
35:02expected
35:02the negotiations
35:05are going to be
35:06around trade
35:07talks the
35:08imposition of
35:09tariffs
35:09India and the
35:11US have
35:12already set
35:13an ambitious
35:14target of more
35:15than doubling the
35:16bilateral trade
35:17shashank in
35:18fact from my
35:20colleague in
35:20fact from India
35:22today global is
35:23with us for the
35:24very latest on
35:25that shashank once
35:27again for our
35:27viewers pictures are
35:29from the Delhi
35:30airport where the
35:32US vice president
35:33is landing in
35:34fact his plane has
35:35landed at this
35:35point in time with
35:37his entire family
35:38but on top of the
35:39agenda and why
35:40this makes this
35:41visit so high
35:43stakes is because of
35:44India and US's
35:46concerns around
35:47trade imbalances
35:49trade tariffs
35:50and this certainly
35:51is going to be on
35:52top of the list
35:53isn't it when it
35:54comes to the
35:54agenda
35:54well absolutely
35:56I think it's
35:56important at the
35:57outset to say that
35:58JD Vance right
35:59now does not have
35:59any direct
36:00jurisdiction on
36:01issues related to
36:02trade and tariffs
36:03right now the
36:04sense is that the
36:05commerce secretary and
36:06treasury secretary are
36:07running point on
36:07that regardless
36:08JD Vance is a
36:09very important
36:10advisor to Donald
36:10Trump over the
36:11last couple of
36:12months we've seen
36:13him really grow in
36:14structure as he
36:15has taken on more
36:16responsibility for the
36:17Trump administration
36:18particularly on
36:19sensitive matters of
36:20foreign policy
36:21including of course
36:22his visit to
36:23Finland he went to
36:24Europe to deliver a
36:25very harsh message
36:26on the Ukraine war
36:27according to reports
36:28that we're seeing in
36:28the American media
36:29he will probably be
36:30part of a task force
36:31that will deal with
36:32tariffs on China and
36:33the ongoing trade war
36:34so again this is
36:35someone who has
36:36acquired more and
36:36more responsibility as
36:38the Trump
36:38administration has
36:39progressed and is
36:40entering its fourth
36:41month so we know
36:42that this is someone
36:44who's highly
36:45influential and has
36:46the year of
36:46President Donald
36:47Trump and that's
36:47something that's
36:48very important to
36:48India because having
36:50someone who can
36:50influence Donald
36:51Trump and advise
36:52him in a very key
36:54way in ways that
36:55are sensitive to
36:56India's concerns is
36:57extremely important
36:58from the Indian
36:58perspective so India
36:59will be looking to
37:00develop that
37:01professional and
37:02political relationship
37:03but also going
37:04forward we are in
37:062025 within
37:07possibly a year or
37:08two you are
37:08probably going to
37:09see the next
37:10cycle of presidential
37:11elections kick off
37:12for the 2028
37:13election and by
37:14most accounts
37:15J.D. Vance is
37:16at this point in
37:17time the front
37:17runner to be the
37:18next Republican
37:19nominee for the
37:20presidency so
37:20within four years
37:21we could be seeing
37:22again a J.D. Vance
37:23presidency it is of
37:24course too early to
37:25say but nevertheless
37:26he is one of the
37:27front runners at this
37:28point in time so
37:29getting ahead of that
37:30establishing that
37:31personal relationship
37:31with this politician
37:33early on is going to
37:34be important because
37:35down the line you
37:36want someone like
37:37J.D. Vance to be
37:37sensitive to Indian
37:38concerns have
37:39experienced India to
37:40have met the top
37:40Indian leadership
37:41so that when as
37:42in when the Trump
37:43administration
37:43progresses and as
37:44his own candidacy
37:45progresses you will
37:47likely see a much
37:48closer relationship
37:49between India and
37:49the United States
37:50because of that
37:51first term relationship
37:52that forms the
37:53foundation for this
37:54partnership.
37:54That's right you
37:55know but Shashank
37:56talk to us a little
37:57about how India
37:58would want this and
37:59so would the US
37:59want this to be a
38:00bit of a win-win
38:01situation isn't it
38:02so tell us in this
38:04context what kind of
38:05leverage do you see
38:06India having as far
38:07as trade discussions
38:08and tariff discussions
38:09are concerned?
38:11Well I think India
38:11is going to obviously
38:12say that it has a
38:14very strong domestic
38:16market that the
38:17United States wants
38:17to access both sides
38:18have already said
38:19that they want to
38:20double bilateral trade
38:21to the level of
38:21around 500 billion
38:23dollars it's a strong
38:24incentive for US
38:25companies who want to
38:26come in invest in
38:28India access the
38:28domestic market that
38:29of course is going to
38:31be important for them
38:32especially at a time
38:33when the United States
38:33and China are fighting
38:34a trade war you're
38:35increasingly seeing
38:36that a number of
38:36companies American
38:37companies especially
38:38want to do business
38:39elsewhere they're
38:40finding it difficult
38:40to continue in
38:42China and of course
38:43are looking for new
38:44avenues India can be
38:46that haven for them
38:47as well so India is
38:48not coming of course
38:48without its cards in
38:50the relationship
38:51India of course also
38:52knows that it has a
38:53position in America's
38:55regional strategy when
38:56it comes to the
38:56Indo-Pacific when it
38:57comes to handling
38:58China that is
39:00something that America
39:01particularly in the
39:02previous administration
39:02of Joe Biden was
39:04very very keen on
39:05pushing so again India
39:06knows that it has
39:07some leverage
39:08certainly but again
39:09with the Trump
39:10administration there
39:11are of course always
39:12negotiating difficulties
39:14this is in many
39:15cases this is absolutely
39:16a red line for the
39:17Trump administration
39:18that is tariffs and
39:19trade is something
39:20that is a top
39:20political priority for
39:21them India understands
39:22that and despite
39:23having of course some
39:25leverage it has chosen
39:26to follow a non
39:27confrontational path
39:28it's not said very
39:30much about reciprocal
39:31tariffs it's decided to
39:32follow the path of
39:34negotiations we've seen
39:35senior officials speak
39:36fairly positively of
39:37those negotiations
39:38between India and
39:40the United States
39:40so at this point in
39:41time it seems that
39:42talks are progressing
39:43and by September the
39:45expectation is that we
39:45should have a trade
39:48deal so India of course
39:48is signaling to the
39:50United States that
39:50it's not really it
39:52doesn't want to this
39:53has to escalate into a
39:54big fight it wants to
39:55have a deal but it has
39:56to be a win-win deal
39:57that works for both
39:58sides precisely because
39:59it understands that this
40:00is an absolute red line
40:01issue for the Trump
40:03administration you know
40:04also Shashanka of course
40:06this is going to be an
40:09important discussion
40:10given how US is also
40:11India's largest trading
40:12partner with the
40:13bilateral trade also
40:15increasing with the
40:16last few years or so
40:17but like we've been
40:19talking about this
40:20isn't just about work
40:21this isn't about just
40:22diplomacy or you know
40:24strategic ties this
40:25also is a very personal
40:26visit for the US
40:27vice president a lot of
40:29things that that have
40:30been lined up for J.D.
40:32Vance as far as his
40:33personal visit here is
40:34concerned a trip to
40:35India take us to what
40:36is expected in the next
40:37few days
40:38well absolutely so today
40:40J.D. Vance is very
40:41expected to visit the
40:43Akshadham temple here
40:44in here in
40:46Enoira he's also
40:47expected to then move
40:48off and go to a
40:51shopping center where
40:52he's expected to shop
40:53for traditional Indian
40:54handicrafts around 6 30
40:56p.m. then he's
40:57expected to meet
40:59Prime Minister Narendra
40:59Modi it's expected to be
41:00a very key and very
41:01important meeting after
41:02which the Prime
41:03Minister will host a
41:04dinner for him where
41:06you will of course see
41:07very key ministers and
41:08other political
41:09personalities come to
41:10meet Vice President
41:11J.D. Vance that's the
41:12schedule for today
41:13tomorrow of course he
41:14heads off to Jaipur
41:16again will indulge in
41:17the cultural sites of
41:20Jaipur he's also of
41:21course going to give a
41:22major speech tomorrow
41:23afternoon on the state
41:26of the India US
41:27relationship that's a
41:28position that's a
41:28speech you're gonna have
41:29to watch out for because
41:30within that speech you
41:31will probably see the
41:32message that the Trump
41:32administration wants to
41:33send India that's
41:34happening tomorrow
41:35afternoon in Jaipur he
41:37of course also then the
41:38day after goes to
41:39Agra where he will of
41:40course see the Taj Mahal
41:42he will also inaugurate an
41:43open-air market featuring
41:45traditional Indian goods
41:46and cultural wares that
41:48is the three-day visit of
41:49course on then on the
41:5124th he heads back so
41:53again a packed visit but
41:55definitely a visit that
41:56focuses very much on the
41:58cultural side of the
42:00of India US relations and
42:03of course because precisely
42:04because the three Vance
42:06children are of course
42:07accompanying their parents
42:08to this this major visit
42:10and of course the idea is
42:11that they would like to
42:12introduce their children to
42:13Indian culture that the
42:14culture of Ushara Vance
42:15their mother and of course
42:16that is going to be a key
42:18focus of this visit well
42:20absolutely pictures are in
42:21five to tell our viewers
42:22quickly from Delhi's airport
42:24in five the Palam airport
42:25where US Vice President
42:27J.D. Vance has just landed
42:29his plane has just in fact
42:30landed a pictures are the
42:32ceremonial welcome at this
42:34point in time a union
42:35minister would be in fact
42:37welcoming J.D. Vance
42:39US Vice President at the
42:41airport receiving him at the
42:43airport a meeting with the
42:44Prime Minister on top of the
42:46agenda like we've been
42:47telling our viewers is trade
42:48look at these pictures live
42:50on your screens coming in
42:51from the Delhi airport of
42:54course both the leaders
42:56would be engaging in a
42:57dialogue and this obviously
42:58has got to do with a
43:00further bolstering of ties
43:02between both the nations
43:04when it comes to trade when
43:05it comes to economic ties
43:07an important visit from the
43:09point of view of Vance's
43:12coming to India and
43:14discussing what could be a
43:16middle path so that it's a
43:18win-win situation for both
43:19the countries now previously
43:22Donald Trump had targeted
43:25India in a way with 24 26%
43:27rather a tariff is part of
43:29the now pause tariff program
43:31where India did not
43:32retaliate and like Shashank
43:34has been telling us that
43:35Shashank kind of set a tone
43:37isn't it for this meeting
43:39also to take place instead of
43:41hostilities we chose a path
43:43where a discussion could be
43:44possible so that there's a
43:46win-win situation for both
43:47sides isn't it
43:48I think that the Indian
43:51position has always been
43:53that look this is a
43:53relationship that has been
43:55built over the last 20-25
43:57years with a lot of blood
43:58sweat toilet tears also I
44:00think India understands that
44:01this is you know many
44:03presidents come with their
44:04particular fixations their
44:05particular policy priorities
44:06that they want to push and
44:07with Donald Trump tariffs
44:08and trade was definitely the
44:10issue that was most on the
44:12agenda for him when he was
44:13on the campaign trail and
44:15then of course after he became
44:16president as well so I think
44:17there was an expectation in
44:18India that this would be a
44:20key focus of course India
44:21like much of the world was
44:22surprised by the scale of the
44:23tariffs that were announced
44:24it has also been concerned
44:25about the impact that those
44:27tariffs have had on the
44:28Indian stock market and also
44:30on the global economy most
44:31countries have been but I
44:32think like a number of
44:33American partners India has
44:35also chosen to pursue the
44:37path of dialogue and
44:38diplomacy it believes that a
44:41deal is possible with the
44:42United States that keeps most
44:44parties satisfied as of course
44:46a bilateral trade agreement
44:47we heard the Commerce
44:50Minister Piyush Goral talk
44:51about how India is really
44:53looking to do business with
44:54countries that it trusts
44:54countries that are developed
44:56countries that play by the
44:57rules of the game when it
44:58comes to international trade
44:59and that's why it's signing
45:01trade agreements for example
45:02with the European Union with
45:03the United Kingdom we've
45:05signed of course one with
45:05Australia with the UAE so
45:08the idea is that India wants
45:09to work very strongly with
45:10developed countries where it
45:12can play by the rules of the
45:13game and develop its economy
45:15economy as well America is
45:16precisely one of those
45:17countries so this fits into
45:18India's broader strategy as
45:20well of course that does not
45:21mean it's all smooth sailing
45:22it's of course going to be
45:24from what we're hearing
45:25already there are some
45:26disagreements between India
45:27the United States as there
45:28are negotiations on trade and
45:30tariff issues America wants
45:32much more broad access to
45:33sensitive Indian sectors like
45:34agriculture India has pushed
45:36back on those expectations
45:38it's pointed out the
45:38difference between the
45:39American farming industry and
45:41India's farming industry that
45:42happens to be much smaller
45:44where Indian farmers happen to
45:45be not as economically
45:46advanced as their American
45:47counterparts so those
45:48discussions at this point in
45:49time are ongoing but a
45:51visit like this by J.D.
45:52Vance someone who is in a
45:54position to advise Donald
45:55Trump influence him or and
45:57he's really a key lieutenant
45:59in every real sense to the
46:01U.S. president having that
46:02sort of visit to convey Indian
46:04concerns or to get the
46:06American view on these issues
46:07will be extremely important
46:09because this is someone who
46:10seems to be going from
46:11strength to strength in the
46:13Trump administration which is
46:14really putting this visit
46:15early in its proper context
46:16absolutely and also you know
46:19Shashank I want to take off
46:20from what you said about
46:21India's own concerns as well
46:23as far as access to
46:25agriculture and dairy sectors
46:26concerned given how this
46:28these are the sectors that
46:29actually employ India's
46:31largest workforce and there
46:33are so many domestic
46:34pressures back home here in
46:36the country for India to give
46:38all right to tell our viewers
46:40pictures of J.D.
46:41Vance and Usha Chilukuri Vance
46:44the U.S. vice president and
46:47second lady on your screens at
46:49this point in time as they reach
46:51New Delhi this is in fact
46:53pictures coming in from the
46:56Palam airport in the national
46:58capital where the U.S. vice
47:00president along with the second
47:01lady Usha Chilukuri Vance
47:03daughter of immigrants from
47:06Andhra Pradesh back home in the
47:07country with their children
47:09today to in fact take the
47:11children back to the heritage
47:13Indian heritage of their
47:14mother her Indian roots her
47:16Indian connection this is the
47:18visit of the U.S. vice
47:19president for the first time as
47:24the vice president in that
47:26position Ashwini Vaishnav
47:27union minister just welcomed
47:30received J.D. Vance the U.S.
47:33vice president to the country a
47:35very very hot day here in Delhi
47:38but J.D. Vance is the vice
47:40president and the second lady
47:41are here for four days it's going
47:44to be a strategic diplomatic
47:46visit and it also is a personal
47:51visit for J.D. Vance the U.S.
47:53vice president you see on your
47:55screens at this point in time
47:58which is our from the Delhi airport
48:01right now I'm going to go back to
48:03Shivani and Shashank as we continue
48:06to stay with these pictures of the
48:09U.S. vice president who've just
48:10arrived in Delhi extremely hot to
48:13tell our viewers that it it is in
48:17fact today and he is here along with
48:21his entire family including his
48:22children
48:51of the south the country and
48:56did it
48:58but
48:59yeah
49:00yeah
49:03yeah
49:05yeah
49:06yeah
49:08yeah

49:12yeah
54:59It landed at the Delhi airport at this point in time.
