00:00The West Lafayette Library is really a magical place.
00:04When you think about libraries as a place where people can go
00:09and just enjoy being a part of a community that celebrates reading and learning
00:15and curiosity and exploration, that is what public libraries are here for.
00:20Mara Honeywell is the director of That Magical Place,
00:23where books are free and everyone's welcome.
00:26It's the library she grew up in as a little girl.
00:29Every inch of the West Lafayette Public Library exists for the community,
00:34but one of Honeywell's favorite corners is the Library of Stuff,
00:38with telescopes, sewing machines, and more, free for the borrowing.
00:43Right now, the library is facing a challenging future,
00:46with funding cuts and changes coming from Indianapolis.
00:49We are a small little library that has a big community that we get to serve,
00:56and we want to make sure that we can continue to serve our community
01:01and get them access to everything that they desire and that they deserve as a public library.
01:08She said one of the best and easiest ways to support your public library
01:12is with one of these, a library card.
01:15It's free, it's available to anyone, it gets you access to everything behind those doors,
01:20and it tells the community that this is something that matters.
01:23I don't know how it's going to all go together,
01:26but what I do know is that we are a reading-focused community,
01:31and that our community is ready to activate,
01:34to make sure that the West Lafayette Public Library is still able
01:38to do everything that we do, day in and day out.
